APSE To Release Double A-Side Single Featuring "3.1/The Whip" Out This Week Taken From Their Forthcoming Sophomore LP Entitled Climb Up Out November 10th On ATP Records / US Tour To Come The bulk of this writing process then took place between the fall of 2008 and the spring of 2009. Forging the album through long days and nights in the quiet beauty of the winter months on outer Cape Cod. The record that's come out of it, entitled Climb Up is undoubtedly a reflection of the very process that made it - tying [...]

ZACH THAT: In the fall of 2007, around Apse's 8th year as a band, Michael Gundlach and founding member Bobby relocated to the quiet shores of outer Cape Cod, Massachusetts and began living in virtual isolation. A few months into the move and for various reasons the 2 brooklyn based members of the band were no longer in the picture, leaving only Bobby, Michael and their faithful touring bass player / contributing member John Mordecai, living 4 hours away. Together Bobby and Michael found multi-instrumentalist Jed Armour who joined the band and introduced them [...]
In the three years that have followed the release of 2006's Spirit , the Connecticut rock outfit known as Apse has seen two of its members, Ezer Lichtenstein and Austin Stawiarz, depart, three new members, drummer Brandon Collins, guitarist Jed Armour and bassist John Mordecai, join, and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Piccirillo quit and re-join, all while frontman Robert Toher and guitarist Michael Gundlach relocated to Cape Cod, Massachusetts to begin work on a new album. While all that might be a bit hard to comprehend, this piece of Apse news is not: On October 20th, the [...]

Today, part two of our ongoing (belated) coverage of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival, which was held in upstate New York this past weekend. Today, Ian discusses the events of Saturday, September 20th. He has provided all applicable photographs, and I have scourged the Internet far and wide to bring you these recordings from throughout the day. I even listened to some of it live on Saturday. Speaking of which, If anyone comes across A Silver Mt. Zion's set, I've been looking for it. They sounded beautiful! Take it away, Ian... ...When I first saw the schedule posted [...]

TLC kicked off this week in style: a night of eclectic buzz bands at the Lower East Side's Cake Shop . We were able to catch the two biggest names on the bill, Apse (left) and Lissy Trullie and The Fibs . Apse released their debut LP, Spirit , in 2006 without garnering too much attention. These experimental indie rockers never gave up on the album [...]
Monday: Friction @ Cake Shop 8pm $7 For this month's installment of Friction the super hip party has chosen Cake Shop as its location and booked a solid lineup that features two on the cusp bands. Both Lissy Trullie and Apse are on the verge of being your new favorite bands and both are being highly touted as we go into the CMJ Marathon. Why wait to see them when you can cram your butts into Cake

Thanks to everyone who made last week's FRICTION show at Mercury Lounge a jam-packed, sold-out and festive affair. We're back again this month with another show at Cake Shop on September 22nd with downtown darling, Lissy Trullie , atmospheric rockers Apse , who are making a special trip down to NYC following ATP New York and Jean on Jean . This will be Jean on Jean's (Molly Schnick from Out Hud new project) debut live show in support of her new [...]

Though rooted in a post-rock past, Apse, one of the latest signings to ATP, has moved far beyond the realm of predictable crescendos and instrumental workouts. The band has evolved into a much more formidable force and with the further emphasis on singer Robert Toher's spectral vocals and an amped up rhythmic force, Spirit arrives as the band's most captivating work to date. Focusing on what they describe as a "tribal" rhythmic style, the band has branched out into an underlying cacophony of drums creeping the songs along like a pulsing wave. This is dark war-like wooden tribal, [...]

Apse, Spirit (ATP Recordings, 2008) MP3: "From the North" Originally released in 2006 via the Acuarela Discos imprint out of Madrid, Spirit will probably find a much larger audience with this reissue from ATP. Apse will also play the New York version of the ATP Festival this September, and will issue new material via the label later this year. So in other words, everything's coming up Apse. (When can [...]
Back in March, I mentioned that New England-based post-rock band, Apse , would be re-releasing their 2006 gem, Spirit , on ATP Recordings later this year and had plans to tour the UK. Fast forward to three months later and the band has played ATP vs. Pitchfork , finished their tour, and has three U.S. dates scheduled. Lucky for us, one of those dates is for the stacked ATP New York Festival on September 20th - a thin layer of icing on an already sweet, sweet cake. I'm not usually [...]
First up: Snowflake Midnight 9/29. Then the "subtler" Strange Attractor , which will be free! More info at MercuryRev.com .

Avante-garde post-rock outfit Apse are gearing up for a busy 2008. The last time we checked in with the Cape Cod, MA six-piece was in 2006 on the heels of their elegant LP Spirit . Originally released on Spanish imprint Acuarela Discos , the record will be re-released in May this year (according to the band "60 days from March 5th") via ATP Recordings . In addition to the re-release of Spirit , the band will also be dropping a 45-minute EP titled Eras [...]
Ergens tussen Liars, God Machine en Godspeed! etc. in. Maar goed. Er goed! Shade of the Moor Keep Marrer Fade Dornier [edit] Keep_Redux Apse site.

Filmmakers will love Apse. This Brooklyn-based experimental band teeters on the line that separates darkness and light, and never lets their music never slip into a specific mood. Apse does not write songs. They write musical accompaniment to our deeper moments. Pot-heads will love it. Add this Band on Myspace Web Mix [...]
