Archie Bronson Outfit - "Dart For My Sweetheart" Surely we're not the only ones wondering what's been going on with the great Archie Bronson Outfit . We haven't heard much from them since their memorable Domino release from '06, Derdang Derdang - but it turns out they've been working on a new album since at least last summer, with DFA guru Tim Goldsworthy manning the knobs and mixing board. So, a new ABO album in '09? Perhaps... perhaps...
One thing to look forward to in the new year... a new new new Archie Bronson Outfit LP. They reported (back in July)" "Our new album is taking shape. DFA guru Tim Goldsworthy in the producers chair - we've completed two recording sessions in Michigan, U.S. and the album is currently being mixed over in NYC also by Mr TG. More updates to come!" Since then, no updates. On the other hand, there has been no news of the band breaking up. So, I assume Domino is sitting on the record for release in '09 (or [...]

London thoroughbred brother and sister duo Joe Gideon & The Shark are a sight and sound to behold. Joe Gideon pounds bass and guitar whilst narrating his autobiographical tales of misadventure, and little sister Viva (The Shark) drives the whole thing along with glorious drums and piano and 8-track (often, incomprehensibly, all at the same time). Meandering through soundscapes that take in beat-fuelled rifforama, voodoo-injected grooves and melodious beauty, their sound is both comfortably spacious and foot-stompingly intense. And highly original. Viva's artistry is gracious and almost gymnastic, evidently a trait learned [...]

DATELINE: the UK - One of my favorite groups from the last two years is the energetic and enigmatic Archie Bronson Outfit . Their Seventies Throwback style of archaic blues, heavily dominated by drummer Arp Cleveland's technique and the churning, dreamlike song cycle put them into a class all by themselves. Then there is all that screaming and the sex-laden lyrics!! The band has been MIA for way too long. I'm calling them out in the hopes that we get some news very soon! ( What the hell, it worked [...]
Musikkah Day Seven Musi-what? [ Post ] With all of the love-themed mixes that go up at the time I put Musicupid up, a mix that propagated singleness just seemed oh-so-right. Musicupid Originally Posted 2.14.07 On this day of chocolates, of roses, [...]

I saw "The Mist" on Saturday night. You know the story, Stephen King blah blah, scary movie blah blee blue, but it actually was pretty fun. Part of that fun was in the fact that there was absolutely no soundtrack. That's right, other than a few errant ambient tones way in the background, all there was to be heard in this film was the clashing sound effects of terrifying aliens or whatever those things were. This soundtracklessness worked to great effect to capture the "reality" of the situation, thus sucking the viewer in even further. However, I was not always [...]

Actually he didn't sing at my wedding, but my wedding song was a Depeche Mode song. However, the song was "Somebody" and Martin Gore sang on that slab of wax. Despite a well publicized brush with the Reaper David Gahan is 45 today. Born this day in 1962. I don't have enough Depeche Mode Songs to create a play list for today. However, I did a review of the re-issue of Speak and Spell last year. That included a "what they did before the band" blurb. Let's just say these songs are inspired by Gahan's pre-DM life. [...]

Not really sure I should be posting this given that it doesn't exactly fit with our policy of bringing you quality electronic music but seeing as we've been a bit slack with giving you much music at all in recent weeks I figured what the hell. I came across Archie Bronson Outfit after returning from the pub a couple of weeks ago and seeing them on Channel 4's Transmission . Now maybe it was just the effects of the beer, but at the time I thought their performance was superb, mixing up dark guitar [...]
The Old Man Was My Friend by Molly Lambert So like, Jean Baudrillard died. So he’s all “dead” now. Link to his wikipedia entry or something please because I don’t feel like explaining all of his obscure theories that I owe whatever the fuck thousand dollars for learning about in the sturdy brick classrooms of New England. The New York Times obit is one of the most brutal I’ve ever seen, ending on the note “then again, maybe all his work was total [...]
Poor Seamus. I think he's been reading too much Pitchfork. I actually thought 2006 was a great year for music. I got to listen to some fantastic new bands and meanwhile some of my favorite groups put out excellent new albums that I actually bought! Also 2006 may have been the first year my top [...]

It's possible that sometime last year, someone somewhere must have tried turning me on to The Archie Bronson Outfit , but I probably ran the opposite direction when I heard the descriptions "David Byrne" , "vocals" and "yelp" , instantly crouching into my I Hate Clap Your Hands Say Yeah karate chop stance. If I'd heard the words "raw fucking cool guitars mixed way up front like a toothache" instead, 2006 would have turned out to be The Year Disco:Very First Heard The [...]
