Architects: [...]

Whenever you first realise that you're in the same room as someone you know, it's usually because you've spotted them. The first time I was ever aware that I was in the same room as Halina Rifai came about not because I knew what she looked like (I didn't), but because I instantly recognised her laugh. This was no ordinary laugh. This was an almighty, shrieking howl which shattered the between-song calm of an Esperi gig at the 13th Note in Glasgow two years ago. Halina's presence in the city's underground music scene is [...]

Whitemare Snider BlackDream Records 11 November 2011 by Alex Andrews When exactly did hardcore develop swagger? It wasn't too long ago that the genre was crawling with mild-mannered vegans too scared to drink beer, but much like The Bronx, Brighton's Whitemare are a band who clearly know their way around a guitar lick and presumably [...]

Fate Eastwood's new mixtape The Architect drops on November 11th.
Last night, the youthful British fivesome known as Architects released a new track, 'Devil's Island'. And it's caused something of a stir. While Architects have made no secret that they recently returned to the studio to work on at least two new songs, they pretty much made no comment as to what these songs would [...]

There is a tiny corner of the universe where Roxy Music, Nina Hagen and David Bowie intersect. Ana Lola Roman 's forthcoming self-released single, "No Architect", lives perfectly within that space. So many interesting and abstract textures colliding all at once -- an infinite warehouse of influences from electro-pop to glam to super dry new-wave. The rhythms become increasingly propulsive with synthetic, plastic coatings of keyboard melodies walking you through a musical adventure. It all sets a backdrop for some truly wacky vocal stylings that will either enthrall you or make [...]

Last week we let you in on a little secret from Chicago called Color Radio. This indie four piece features two brothers, Jonathan and Tohm Ifergan, along with Matt Thomas and Joel Chasco. Their sound is gigantic, layered with all manner of bells and whistles just waiting for you to grab Architects and throw on a pair of headphones. You'll be enamored. Since their second album is about to see it's physical release, we thought it'd be a great time to send some questions their way and see what we could learn about them. We even get [...]

We started this thing on Wordpress last year and in the beginning we did movies, music, and films. There were a million websites who did one, or the other, but not many that did all three. Unfortunately that model was not sustainable…it's impossible to keep up with massive amount of new music, let alone new films every week plus an episode of several television shows. With only two men on staff and real lives to attend to, we shifted solely to music. It's what we love and what we follow the closest. Fast forward to a year later [...]

Below is a new edition of Backstage from our pals at Bands in the Backyard (BITBY) . The video features fledgling local music three-piece Break It Up performing an unplugged version of their new song called "Architect" that we are digging. You can catch the band's debut live performance on October 15 at Kung Fu Necktie with Slutever . (Photo by Kyle Costill)
Fall officially arrived a few days ago, and with it cool weather and the inevitable rain. Color Radio's disc Architects also arrived in my inbox at the same time…conveniently before I had to head out for a long drive to the airport. I couldn't have asked for a better soundtrack for the season or the trip. Architects harnesses some beautiful music, with emotive melodies and shimmering guitars interspersed with just the slightest bit of synth that create an atmosphere of wonder. Here's two of my favorite cuts from the album thus far, "Smile At A Funeral" [...]

analolaroman.com / Facebook I seem to be on a cycle of artists returning after around six months off the blog, Ana Lola Roman featured here in March with her wonderful debut single 'Jigsaw / Klutch' (check it out if you haven't already), the follow up 'No Architect' will be available November 7th and it's an absolute knock-out. You can stream an extended version below, it's just great. From its extra-long intro of pounding drum machine beats, looping synthetic effects and driving piano melody you know it's a special [...]
