Now that the unofficial end-of-summer signal (aka Lollapalooza) has passed, the days of enjoying your favorite band perform in the great outdoors are numbered. Pretty soon bands will begin taking their acts inside to the warm confines of clubs and arenas , leaving you nature fanatics plum out of luck. On the plus side, our Friday Mixtape is immune to weather and season changes, so if you dig listening to new Kanye West and No Age tracks in blistering code temperatures, well, we're here for you. Either way, enjoy the latest edition of our weekly mixtape, which, [...]

everyone's favorite band [to hate] or not. what do you think?

New York City's A.R.E. Weapons return with their third cd, Modern Mayhem, on Defend Music . The electronics that were so prevalent on Free In The Streets seem to have taken a back seat on the new cd, but that grit from the streets feel is still there. The reduction of the keyboard and drum machines on Modern Mayhem give the cd much more of a punk feel. For myself, the more I listen to it the more this album sounds like something the Dead Milkmen would release if they were still making [...]

I do not really know how to describe A.R.E. Weapons ' sound. I wanna use the term post-punk but, in all honesty, I have no idea what that term really means. So, I'll just say they sound kinda like a punk band with more talent and some keyboards and drum machines. A lot of reviewers seem to really dislike these guys and their articles about the band seem to give way to angry rants that the band had tricked them leading up to the release of Free in the Streets . I think the problem lies in [...]
