Darum sprechen [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

Roger Kisby You can probably blame the entire music industry's post-SXSW hangover for this week's roundup of concert announcements being a little late and a little lean. But there were still some. And here they are. While I believe the official status of The Fiery Furnaces is that they're a going concern, it's pretty clear that the burner that they're on is pretty far back. Since they finished touring 20092s presciently-titled I'm Going Away , both Friedberger siblings have busied themselves in solo form. Matthew Friedberger released [...]
Februar nun [...] [[ This is a content summary only. by Tiana Feng Last week, Canadian rockers Arkells played a sold-out benefit concert at the Phoenix Concert Theater. While I was unable to attend the concert, I got a sneak-peak at the initiative they were supporting the day before at Eva's Phoenix Youth Center in Toronto. Along with the Arkells, we were taken on a tour of Eva's Phoenix. They also performed a two song acoustic set and signed CDs for the youth. I enjoyed that they were more than just a shelter [...]
Toronto electronic pop outfit LIGHTS (the stage name of Valerie Anne Poxleitner) played The TLA on the tail end of promoting her 2011 release Siberia. Opening the show was fellow Ontarians Arkells; check out a photo recap in the gallery above. Continue reading

The opening band for Lights , the Arkells , did more than play their part perfectly, teasing the young crowd in preparation for the main show. The Canadian indie rock band, which carried the Great American Music Hall stage well, deserve more credit. Their music could easily play in a coffee shop or blast live at a house party. Though some of their songs would be forgettable on an album, with the energy they brought live, in such an intimate venue as the Great American Music Hall—they filled the room. When the Canadian electropop [...]

by Tiana Feng Here's the Arkells covering Frank Ocean's Thinking About You . Since I quit doing Cover Saturdays, I haven't posted that many covers. This is an exception because it's lovely.

Canadian rockers Arkells are excited to return to the US for a 4-week tour with Lights. Beginning October 23rd in Seattle, WA, Arkells will hit the road and continue to win over music fans with a sound Esquire Magazine, Alternative Press, Nylon and Paste Magazine spotlight as an impressive "combination of crunchy rock guitars and an unabashed love for Hall & Oates pop melodies." New song "On Paper," one of the ten impressive tracks on the band's new album MICHIGAN LEFT, helped win the band another Juno award - this time for "Group Of The Year." [...]

Hamilton's Arkells totally got the crowds rocking out at the River Stage on the third day of Ottawa Bluesfest . Exceptionally a great band to see live and didn't disappoint. No wonder they won "Group of the Year" at this year's Juno Awards. Sadly no Kathleen Edwards making an appearance which was rumored to happened during the set. Here are the rest of the photos. [...]
![Dan Griffin @ Mavericks [May 25, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4290727_lg.jpg)
After having a jolly fun time with The Elwins at Mavericks on May 25, 2012. Next up was Dan Griffin . For those who don't know who he is, just say he plays in the band called The Arkells . He was promoting his album "Leave Your Love". The set was more of a indie folk-rock style. Kind of reminded me of Great Bloomers. I didn't get to [...]

WHO: Dan Griffin , one fifth of Arkells WHAT: On top of announcing a string of solo dates across Southern Ontario later this month, Griffin has made his introspective cover of Wolf Parade's "Yulia" a free download from his website. You can also pick up his free 2011 EP, Leave Your Love , which was co-produced with Howie Beck. WHEN & WHERE: Catch Griffin on May 22 in Guelph, ON (eBar); May 23 in Hamilton, ON (Casbah); May 24 in [...]

Hey there! You should read this original post on the hill by going here: Dan Griffin - Yulia (Wolf Parade Cover) Wednesdays are made for cover songs. At least this is what I've heard, or rather, this is the premise I'm concocting to suit the needs of this post. But have a listen to Dan Griffin's rather solemn, acoustic take on Wolf Parade's tragic Cosmonaut opus Yulia and you'll agree it deserved a posting. Griffin, also known as a member of current CDN rock radio faves Arkells , released a rather lovely [...]

The Ontario-based indie rockers Arkells are not as known in the States...yet, but they're this year's recipients of the Juno Award for "Group Of The Year." Their recently released album, Michigan Left , has earned praise for its flourishes of '70s and '80s rock music, drawing comparisons to Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen. Download the Michigan Left fan favorite, "Kiss Cam", below. Read more »
