One of my favourite bands out of Brooklyn - ARMS just came out with a new song called Summer Skills and it's definitely a sign of growth, Todd Goldstein's voice pretty much sounds good singing anything so I dig it! Listen below. Summer Skills (Bump in the Night Version) by ARMS

Co'Signed NYC indie rockers ARMS have released a "brave new version" of the title track to their 2011 sophomore LP, Summer Skills . "Summer Skills (Bump in the Night Version)" sees the band infuse elements of Talking Heads, resulting in a slightly distorted, sorta funky take that should lead to plenty of bumpin' on the dance floor. Stream it below (via I Guess I'm Floating ).

We've been a fan of ARMS for some time, even before singer/songwriter Todd Goldstein started making (short lived, sadly) waves with NYC outfit Harlem Shakes . While the latter is now just a dance move that I cannot seem to master, the former is a thriving Brooklyn-based outfit that seems to morph and grow with each release. Goldstein's soothing vocals and thoughtful lyricism remain constants, but new track "Summer Skills (Bump in the Night Version)" enters a space of melodic bass lines and percussion that takes me back to the glory days of Talking [...]

Ladies and Gentlemen, The musical menu for The Deli's 3rd NYC B.E.A.F. (Best of Emerging Artists Fest) is right in front of you - check out the details here (links to band's music profiles are under the poster). This festival is linked to our latest year end Best of NYC Emerging Artists Poll , a contest influenced by many NYC scene makers, bloggers and venue promoters, and will be heavily promoted in our Spring 2012 printed issue of The Deli, which highlights all the bands in the "Best of 2012" list. The fest [...]
SILVER SERIES // ARMS "Face Gravity" from INVISIBLE CHILDREN on Vimeo . Check out this blast from the past video - Arms performing at our SXSW Silver Series last year. Ah, this brings me back! Arms is such a good band. I wonder what they're up to these days? Watch the video and get into them. I could use a little of that warm Austin sun right about now, it is freezing up here in Toronto. What gives, Spring?

Brooklyn's Matty Fasano is a versatile musician, evidenced by his solo work with ARMS and LCD System. His latest solo effort, the Living In Armchairs EP, is out this week, and it's bound to be one of the most beautiful releases you'll hear in 2012. Centered around Fasano's soothing, incredibly harmonious voice and equally as moving piano playing, Living In Armchairs posits itself somewhere between pop and classical. As the name might suggest, this four-song collection is an undeniably comforting body of work -- one that's serene and inspiring. If [...]
Rawkblog premiered ARMS member Matty Fasano's latest solo single, "Christopher," the other day - here's his full new EP, a luxurious-sounding set of downcast piano pop. It'll be out officially on April 3, presumably via his Bandcamp .

This post sponsored by Doritos Jacked . Doritos Jacked: So good you'll wish you were adopted. I went to SXSW again. I got to hang out with comedians. I saw some bands play music. Here are some pictures and some videos I took at the We Listen For You day show. Surprise guests arrived. It was fun. There was a giant vending machine. I had free Taco Bell. Photo by David Greenwald SXSW 2012 was, as expected, the best week imaginable. Here are the shows/bands I liked the most. Here's a Rawkblog Best of SXSW 2012 Spotify playlist - listen along while you read. WEDNESDAY Future Unlimited apparently were struggling with sound issues at Beauty Bar - I didn't get the chance to see them again, but their recordings are a pretty promising take on Cut Copy-style synth anthems. Hospitality : The band I most wanted to see at SXSW was [...]
If you've been reading Thrash Hits for any length of time now, you'll know we've got a lot of time for The Armed . In case you're new to these parts, The Armed are DIY-as-fuck, Detroit-based, DEP-associated badasses, who put out all of their releases for free download. Well, DIY is all good, and giving away ALL your music for free is even better, but it doesn't exactly pay the bills when it comes to recording new material. Which is why The Armed need your help. [...]

If you've heard ARMS' Summer Skills (or went to a little thing we did last week), you're familiar with Matty Fasano - the band's bassist and resident harmonizer. He debuted his solo material with last year's "Unkind" b/w "Unusual" single , showcasing a somber, classical-minded sound. "Christopher," the lead track on his new Living in Armchairs EP, is a touch less dour, shrouding itself in the warmth of multi-tracked harmonies and clever, crackling production touches. It avoids a chorus in favor of a gorgeous sunburst of harmony a minute and [...]
Even if you did not attend SXSW, you must have heard about the giant Doritos vending machine/stage, free BBQ via pedicabs, homeless hotspots, The Boss’ “you can do it” keynote or at least, A$AP Rocky’s do-rag. No? Well it’s easy to lose track of what’s going on at SXSW and ...
On this episode of the Rock it Out! Blog, I recap my Friday at South By Southwest which included acoustic sets, a hip-hop show, some disco dancing and a performance from Jack White! Check out the video and get jealous.

Day two of SXSW is over and done with, but we were there to capture one amazing set after another. The Barr Brothers played one of the most magic sets I've ever seen at St. David's Cathedral, the Alabama Shakes rocked the Red Light Management party at Stubb's, and Daughter put on a delicate performance at Red Eyed Fly. Photos of Caveman , Ambassadors , ARMS , and Guards as well.

@KRBronson on Thursday at SXSW (also see: Jesus and Mary Chain review): Arms makes indie-rock for people who like indie-rock, with sharp guitar and bass lines, sharper lyrics and arresting shifts in tempo and mood that toggle adeptly between nice and gnarly. Mastermind Todd Goldstein once played in Harlem Shakes, who had their 15 minutes of next-big-thing around the time they played the Buzz Bands LA showcase in Austin in 2009 . Harlem Shakes went quietly into [...]
ARM has released a new processor (the chips that power mobile devices, Kindles, video game consoles, etc.) that is capable of 32-bit processing, but also promises to deliver years of life from a single battery charge instead of months. While this might not seem significant to most people, imagine having to never charge your Kindle or only having to charge your mobile phone once a month instead of everyday. That's what we're talking about here. More than that however, ARM is hoping these chips will be incorporated into every day devices like fridges, parking meters, home lightening [...]

ARMS at Waynestock I / photo by David Greenwald ARMS released my No. 2 album of 2011 after a triumphant performance at last year's Waynestock, so I can only imagine what this year's set will bring. Here's a taste of one track they might unveil - a through-the-fog, Espers-esque cover of Matthew Dear's "Slowdance." Hear it at ARMS' Tumblr , download our Waynestock mixtape and RSVP on Facebook . If you're heading to Austin this year, you can get my complete guide to the festival as a PDF [...]
