Words by Jacob Barron In honor of the spirit of rebirth with which spring is so frequently associated, I'll be using this edition of Soundtracking Your Spring 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me to completely destroy everything you know and love about this column. Or, you know, freshen it up with a more piecemeal approach, whatever. The point is, last time got me thinking about the whole idea of seasons not as one monolithic thing, but a diverse set of vignettes, each with its own mood or temperature. In the end, you [...]

[ Lunar Disko ] If you happened to catch Santiago Salazar's Soul Communications mix over two years ago, you would have heard him open it with Raiders of the Lost Arp's "Night Theme." At the time it was a test pressing, slated for release on Salazar and Esteban Adame's Ican Productions imprint, but the record didn't materialize. Today, the track has managed to find a new home on Dublin label Lunar Disko Records. And while we will never [...]

Mysterious producer returns to Eglo with brand new EP...

I am toying with the idea of making a podcast. Or maybe the idea of making a podcast is toying with me? Either way, I'm fiddling around with audacity a lot. So much so, that a forthcoming post is more than likely going to feature a 128kbps stream of double drone; specifically, non-descript droning music I read about on dusted magazine interspersed with the non-descript droning of my voice. The weekly podcast challenge will be to determine where each song ends and my voice begins. Just how droning can one man get? Well, a pissed off person once [...]

ARP - From A Balcony Overlooking The Sea from Camilla Padgitt-Coles on Vimeo . There are some memories that are alive with color. When looking back at these spaces in time, it is hard not to laugh. Sometimes the most vivid and rich recollections almost seem saccharine. Still, isn't it nice to recall those times and embrace their magic? Camilla Padgitt-Coles ' new video for composer ARP 's "From a Balcony Overlooking the Sea" brings to mind those mental spaces of undeniable beauty. The track itself lays the strings on thick, creating [...]
Another day, another Swan Fungus reader finds their way into my presence. I promise one of these times if you approach me I won't act like I'm having a panic attack. It's just…in my mind you're all so mentally disturbed. And you all carry weapons around. Sharp weapons. Seriously, what type of person reads this [...]

Techno breakbeat from Steamtown Records. Previously we've had Wesley Dysart ( here ) with some minimal techno. This time something harder and darker from Dark Arps. Listen only, I'm afraid. Go for the original or Wesley Dysart mixes. New release from Dark Arps is B-52, with a range of remixes. The original track is an impressive piece of dense breakbeats with a techno sensibility. Quality moodiness. The Jeff Griffiths keeps the breaks but makes it slightly lighter and a bit more progrssive. Lacks substance after the crush of the original mix. Alpha & Beta take it more towards a breaks only [...]

Today Funkin Matt hits the Beatport charts with his new two track EP "Monk/Arp" on Fjordin Rec. A really cool EP which gains full support by Larry Tee, Ron Carroll, Brodinski, Joost van Bellen, Roog, Tom Piper and many more! Both tracks comes with a melodic and complex synth line - "Monk" is more powerfull and "Arp" which is my favourite, got this beautiful synth! Love that! Listen what he told me about the EP: "My inspiration for this next release was just an arpeggio. I would describe the EP as Arpeggiative Retro [...]
I feel like we should all be jamming out to "Right Now" (and drinking Crystal Pepsi?), because this is the day we've all been waiting for. It's time to stop living in the past and start living in the moment: my annual list of the one-hundred best albums of 2010 is finally ready for you to feast your eyes on it. Look at it. Look at it how you would a naked slut as she spreads her legs for you. It's here for the taking. As is customary now, I've decided not to write blurbs for all 100 [...]

Lo and behold the starwanderers as they continue their ramblings inside a box of black space lined with gold thread, chronological boundary for the holy year that was 2010. Here we report the risky explorations that over this period tore asunder the walls of reality to fetch from the amorphous manifold beyond nutritious morsels of quantum pop which which we watered our garden and fed the livestock. Such were the strange flowers that grew thereafter, and the ancient tongues with which our beasts proclaimed. Ariel Pink and his Haunted Graffiti: Before Today. News at 11. Pop prophet transforms utopian fish into crumbling DIY bread, masses flock to worship at [...]

The Year End List. I think you can appreciate how we approach the obligatory list that publishes in December. We don't use the words "best" for the end of the Gregorian calendar year wrap, and we don't enumerate the list. Empirically ranking albums with some sort of number designation, coupled with superlatives, really trivializes such a mercurial entity of music. So we don't do that. The Year End List is simply a reflection of albums that provided the most accurate representation of our aesthetics, embodying the songs most likely to receive rotation in the personal ghetto blaster for years to [...]
