Arran Arctic From: Edinburgh, Scotland via Portrush, Northern Ireland To quote a wise artist: "It's been a long road, gettin' from there to here" but for those of you who have been waiting on tenterhooks for the Arran Arctic album need wait no more. Yes it's finally released from the captivity of Arran Southall's mind to the late British winter wan sunlight today. As those of you who have been following the blog will expect it blends the [...]

Aye Tunes It's sad to say, but the series of 'Ayetunes vs Peenko' gigs are going on an indefinite hiatus. I am sure you're all gutted to hear that sad news, on the plus side it means that we are now both going to be putting on shows. So you'll have even more reason to get out there and enjoy some amazing new music. Jim has already lined up his first ever Ayetunes Presents gig at Stereo on the 21st of this month, featuring Boygiranimalcolour, Kochka and Trapped Mice. If you hadn't heard of any of the bands, [...]

Ghost Pants Paul Carlin (aka the dude from Dananananaykroyd) is back with the third in his series of lo-fi EP's, and you know what, I reckon this might just be his best yet. Sticking with the 'heart's theme, this one is called 'Active Hearts' and although it's down as being free, I asked the man himself if it would be okay to say to folk that they can download it for free, he said 'yes'. What a nice man he is. You can get yourself a copy here . Ghost Pants make their live debut at the [...]

Mr. Arran Arctic 's new free single, the second off his his forthcoming full length In My Hands , is titled "Interrupt Me". It sees the cool, calm and collected Southall add some extra spice with slowly building electronica, creating a cathartic effect. You liking the new Arctic or do you miss his old, instrumental and mysterious ways? Not that my opinion means much, but...I quite like both. He's just a talented musician! Loch Awe I guess I say this a lot, possibly too much(?), but sometime things pop into my inbox that generally catch me off guard. The latest young scamps to catch me off guard were Edinburgh folk outfit Loch Awe, they remind me a lot of bands like Foxface or even a bit of Meursault, it's indie pop with a Celtic tinge. I'm probably not doing it much justice, instead of reading my ramblings you should check out their debut album, 'Artificial Life from a Digital Sea' which is free to download on their Bandcamp page. [...]

Bronto Skylift One of themost ferosious live bands I have ever seen and also the newest members to join the Scots Way-Hay club. If you weren't paying attention on Wednesday, then to make sure you make sure you use this opporuntity to check this noisey duo out. You can download yourself their track 'Wolf' as taken from their debut album' The White Crow', for free on their Bandcamp page . Arran Arctic London based [...]
Here is one of those great Monday morning kind of song from the unsigned Scottish band, Arran Arctic. You can stream the entire album HERE on their website as well as download the song for free, it won't even cost you an email address. Enjoy. Arran Arctic - The Door from Arran Arctic on Vimeo .
Arran Arctic got in touch with me a while back about his previous album, and I felt in a slightly difficult position because, whilst I liked many elements of what I heard, I still felt that for me personally the album didn't quite have that essential something required to really draw me in. I try not to be mean about unsigned bands, and it felt kind of patronising to write a post which was sort of positive but mostly 'constructive criticism' if you know what I mean. Who the fuck, after all, do I think I am? Now, [...]
![[MP3] Arran Arctic: "The Door"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2674820_lg.jpg)
"The Door" is Arran Arctic 's latest single, the first off his forthcoming album, In My Hands , and comes as a major change from the artist about whom I previously wrote , "The hushed vocals breed such a profound tranquility". Not so anymore. The general tone of the music has changed gears from quieter folk to peppy electronica. Obviously not, like, electro crazy dance jamz, but you'll notice the difference from the very first beat. Is this new direction for the better? I'm not sure. In a fairly big surprise, Arctic's voice actually sounds [...]

Murder Mystery Some times things pop into my inbox that just make my day that little but more sunny. This week I got an email from New York indie pop/rock group Murder Mystery, who wanted to point me in the direction of a couple of free downloads that they had just posted on their website. I'm chuffed that they did as they're a couple of class wee pop tunes, I am defo going to be trying to find out more. Your Neighbour The Liar The Edinburgh four piece are back with new [...]

Arran Arctic From: Portrush, N. Ireland & Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom There is an old norse legend about a wandering folktronica minstrel by the name of Arran Arctic who was discovered by a rusting Icelandic whaling ship, floating alone on an iceberg in the Arctic Circle. Suffering from amnesia, Arctic began a new life upon the vessel writing heart wrenching songs of his search for the answer to his identity and existence. These [...]
Would you care to introduce yourself? Monday to Friday, I'm a professional who works in order to pay the rent and buy musical equipment. In reality, I'm an artist working under the pseudonym "Arran Arctic", my make-believe choral counterpart who travels the Northern seas in search of new melodies. I often fall asleep and dream of music, waking to find the notes just out of reach. The majority of my time is spent trying to retrieve these lost songs. [...]

Arran Arctic is Arran Southall from The U.K., frequently accompanied by various other guests for backing instruments and vocals. Southall describes himself as an introvert - which is all but obvious from his intimately dazzling, understated music. He sings, records, programs, produces and plays acoustic/electric guitar, violin, pedal organ, accordion, concertina, harpsichord, recorder, tin whistle, drums, percussion, metal pipe xylophone, wine glasses, piano and xeremia. Yep, a xeremia. (...No idea what it is, so don't ask.) But that's besides the point. Southall's intrinsic and touching soft melodies ooze passion and mystique as they wander and weave their [...]

I sit by an enormous network switch with a huge fan that constantly streams torrents of chilled air straight into my right ear. Besides the occasional blue ear, this situation allows me the experience the arctic freeze on a daily basis, possibly in balance to the actual arctic rapidly melting away. It also enables me to connect to some types of music in a pseudo-physical sense, feeling the chill and images they project on my own body. The story of northerner Arran Arctic , as you can read and listen to on his MySpace, is one such [...]
