Here's the top 50 acts in Ireland according to my humble tastes. The list acts as a guide to the recently released music which excites me at this moment in time. It excludes bands not currently working in Ireland or who have been dormant for some time. So in basic terms here's a list of bands to watch out for on a random night in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Dundalk etc .... 50. Heritage Centre http://www.facebook.com/theher itagecentre [...]

I wasn't going to do a Halloween mix but seeing as this is an Irish festival which has gone global it seems only right to share some spooky songs with a loose Halloween connection! The Cranberries - Zombie: Zombie Live by The Cranberries The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra - Devil & Me: 03 Devil & Me by bplo [...]

6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you. I love you, dude. Arrow In The Sky's Winter's Requiem : Wholly original, defying explanation despite my best effort to put together a run-on [...]

This looks like a great family day in Danny's of Mullingar with a great line-up of bands playing all day! Headlining is the impressive 'Seven Days' . They have a great singer and they are all extremely talented musicians. Definitely a band for the future! Outside by sevendaysireland
Peter Doran is playing The Spirit Store in Dundalk on August 5th with Bill Coleman and Arrow in the Sky in what has to be one of the best free gig line-ups out there! Here's a wonderful tune from Peter's album 'Sleepless Street' released last year! The Composer by PeterDoran
I've written many times about Navan's Ruairi Coogan but this is the first mention of the band RC & The Lo-fi which consists of Ruairi as the main songwriter. Ruairi's vocals and songs are radio friendly pop gems and in my mind this band is very unique in Ireland. Check out this live track from two years ago in The Sugar Club: Tomorrow night if you're looking for some great entertainment in the Slane area, RC & The Lo-fi are in a 'Battle of the bands' [...]

This is a seriously good line-up in The Grand Social in a few weeks; The Hot Sprockets, The Young Folk and Arrow in the Sky for just a fiver on a Saturday night! Wow! http://www.facebook.com/TheYou ngFolkMusic Way Down South by TheYoungFolk

We're past half way in 2011 and the quality in music produced by Irish artists is getting better and better. I've already reviewed three albums this year where I've given full ratings for. In other words the albums from Favourite Sons, Jukebox Gypsy and Reader's Wives were flawless. Here's the best fifteen new tunes I've heard in 2011. [Disclaimer; No one person can listen to every Irish song released but [...]

Arrow in the Sky, a musical duo formed from the ashes of folk-tronica ensemble Till the Morning Comes, are featuring regularly on MyPod these lovely sunny evenings, offering a perfect soundtrack for my aimless wanderings in the woods (okay...I don't really wander in the woods in my evenings but this music certainly makes me want to). Made up of bassist turned singer Conor McCauley and guitarist and mandolin player Brian Murphy, this Mullingar two-piece are a band you need to check out fairly sharpish. Arrow [...]
Kildare band Chayka are one of a handful of bands booked to play Saturday afternoon gigs in what is one of the last remaining places to buy music in Dublin City Centre; Oxfam Books on Parliamen Street. I'm really delighted with this line-up for Thursday Week at 9PM in Boyles of Slane: Listen to the acts here: Adela & The Meanits Adela And The Meanits - Boogie by RisingStars Arrow in the Sky Fox.E and the Hired Hands Sunday's Whore [...]

Blissful Americana pop from hugely talented Irish raised songwriter and his and band. I don't normally do single reviews on the blog but I thought I'd make an exception or two for this week. Every now and again I get a batch of wonderful tracks which deserve their own post. Today I'm talking about the song you can hear below by Yngve & The Innocent called 'Draw a Line'. In many respects is a perfect post election track. [...]
Here's the new video from the wonderful 'Arrow in the Sky' for their song 'Ghost Town'. It's taken from their new EP 'Winter's Requiem' .
Fantastic folk EP from Westmeath's finest folk duo.
