i used to get really annoyed with my family when they started going on, as old people do, about how they could remember certain sites 'when it was all just fields'. inevitably, said site would now be inhabited by something i wanted to spend money in and this would be their objection to the expense of modern life. of course now i'm (just) over 30, i can now relate to the sinking feeling you get when you see something new has been built [...]

The only thing that pisses me off more than sub-human radio DJs is shitty writing. Anyone else loving the shit that Pitchfork is getting for their bullshit review of The Black Kids' debut LP ? I sure as hell am. I've previously slammed the elitist music site for their pretentious "writing" and it's great to see that others are beginning to take notice of their douchebag ways. Like I said before, I don't care if they, or anybody else for that matter, hates an album. Hate all you want! We all [...]

Natalie Portman's Shaved Head is a spunky and stylish electro pop group from Seattle that reminds me of 80's synth pioneers Alphaville and Art of Noise . The track, Me + Yr Daughter , from the upcoming album Glistening Pleasure [ preorder ] is the first shiny single. Enjoy. Well well well, i havent written in this blog since April it seems! I'll blame it on a hectic summer.... Now that i have my laptop and lots of free time im going to make and effort to write in this more. Giving you all the best in new and old music. It's christmas eve and i am home from university, back in faithful Bognor Regis, West Sussex. Many people are in their homes with their families. Some have chosen to go out clubbing. My local club, and the only one in Bognor is opening especially [...]
With respect to T2 and Heartbroken , we've seen a recent surge of interest in the newest strand of dubstep: bassline house, speed garage, etc. Names are worth fuck all tho: Heartbroken is at the top of the UK charts, and its easily the catchiest track to emerge from the dubstep genre and all of its confusingly taxonimized devilspawn. Furthermore, the whole notion of bassline, combined with several other mitigating factors (to be discussed below) truly poses the Wubstep question: what happens (if/)when dubstep breaks in the states? Now, me and C. Drugula can wax [...]
On Saturday we were stupid enough to go Christmas shopping at the same time as several million other people. Weirdly, the song we heard most was Art Of Noise's Moments In Love. The calmdown classic seems to be rampant consumerism's unofficial theme song. It reminded us that top FOP Nick Catchdubs relaunched his awesome blog a few weeks back with links to a Hypnotic Brass Ensemble live show and a great cover of that song. Then on the way home we listened to the excellent new Fabric Live mix from Caspa and Rusko and remembered that the former recently put [...]
The Lady Foursquare, a recent Chicago transplant originally from the Bluegrass State, has been doin' thangs like a mad woman in the past couple of months. Her style merges loopy techno with electro, glitch and sometimes breakstep to create something that is incredibly unique and weird while remaining playable. She's given us a pair of [...]

the art of noise - moments in love (mp3) due to our tv being on the blink and currently unable to pick up any channels ( ftn being one of the only ones), i have recently become accustomed to the ways of the game show re-runs. now some of you might think this is a terrible thing. let me tell you, it is not. these are our national treasures. if its not bullseye , its gladiators , and if its not gladiators, its the wonderfully groomed gordon burns laying down some crazy, [...]

Blame the lack of updates on the snow that is currently covering Pittsburgh. I know I am. Art Of Noise Paranoimia '89 (Dance Mix) Dragnet '89 That's not a typo, the name of the song is 'Paranoimia.' It's a remix of 'Paranoia,' minus the Max Headroom. The Dragnet theme is silly but fun in a retarded kind of way. Public Image Ltd. Seattle (12'' Mix) Body (12'' Mix) These are two of [...]

It's kind of a New Year's tradition for me to watch Bridget Jones's Diary several times for a few different reasons, one of which being my huge crush on Colin Firth . I can't say I'm much of a fan of Renee Zellweger , but she does a really fantastic job bringing Bridget to life and I almost can't imagine anyone else playing the part. If you've never seen the movie, or read the excellent book on which it's based, it's about 30-something London singleton Bridget Jones, who [...]

P.W. Botha, 1/12/1916 - 10/31/2006. do not rest in peace P.W. Botha , who brutally ruled South Africa's Apartheid regime from 1978 until 1989, died on Tuesday . As wikipedia notes: Thousands were detained without trial during his presidency, while others were tortured and killed. However, he refused to apologize for apartheid. In an interview to mark his 90th birthday he suggested that he had no regrets about the way he ran the country. Botha [...]
Ok, these are bands that formed in the year 1982. After some thought, I decided to go thru every year in the 80's so next one will be moving back to get 1981. Some of these are pretty familiar, some maybe not. I am interested to hear ones you thought I should have included. I am restricting it to ten so obviously have missed a few good ones. Enjoy! mp3 Beat Box ( Art Of Noise ) mp3 Take On Me ( A-Ha ) [...]
