![[Album Review/Listen] – Gold Leaves – "The Ornament"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3673101_lg.jpg)
Tweet Gold Leaves is the solo project of Grant Olsen, formerly of amiable psych-folk duo Arthur & Yu. He began work on his more conventional indie-folk solo debut, "The Ornament", all the way back in 2007, and the intervening years have been tricky: Olsen has lost loved ones along the way and, in a less tragic but nonetheless inconvenient turn, he had his laptop and musical notes stolen long into the recording process, taking him back to square one. So "The Ornament" has not [...]

Grant Olsen's solo project entitled Gold Leaves is my latest obsession. Formally one half of Seattle-based folk duo, Arthur & Yu, The Ornament is a testimony to Olsen's outstanding songwriting abilities. Released on August 16th, the album has been four long years in the making. You may be wondering why it took him so long to release the album. Well the truth of it is Olsen had started working on the album about four years ago, but tabled the [...]
Hardly Art, quickly becoming the best indie label releasing on the West Coast these days, is releasing The Ornament, the full-length debut of Grant Olsen's (one-half of Arthur and Yu) Gold Leaves. If you've even poked your nose in to the old Sound On The Sound beehive as of late, you'll have seen our unabashed [...]

Rating: 8.9 From the dust of Arthur & Yu arises the vivid splendor of Gold Leaves , the project coined and promoted by the now autonomous talent Grant Olsen. As he steps further from the half of him tied to his former duo, the chagrin of life spills forth into The Ornament much like a drain corralling bodies of water from all around. The tale of this nine-track folk album stems from Olsen's personal journey. The compilation of potential songs started over four years ago and took him into married life, [...]
There are few things in the world as calming and invigorating for me than digging through the used bins of my favorite local independent record stores. The act alone turns me into an explorer and when my thumb flips to the record I've been hoping to find, that buried sonic treasure, my creaky knees and [...]
Gold Leaves ::: photo by Kyle Johnson Yesterday Stereogum premiered "Cruel or Kind" my favorite track off The Ornament, the forth-coming debut album from Gold Leaves. But if you've been following Grant Olsen as Arthur & Yu, Magic Mtns or performing solo around Seattle, "Cruel or Kind" probably sounds familiar. Just a couple weeks ago while [...]
Gold Leaves is a new project of Grant Olsen, half of Seattle folk duo Arthur & Yu, but GL's debut release The Ornament was four years in the making. After scratching sessions for a straightforward country or R&B-flavored album, the singer/songwriter hooked up with Papercuts' Jason Quever to produce a campfire-ready collection of honey-voiced, subtly orchestrated Americana. Take a listen to the Fleet Foxy roots rock of "Cruel & Kind," along with the album's more '60s-nodding title track, below. Read More...

Grant Olsen, the Arthur portion of Seattle's Arthur & Yu , is gearing up to release his debut solo album. Using the moniker Gold Leaves , Olsen will release his album, The Ornament, on the Hardly Art label on August 16th. From the sound of the first single, also called "The Ornament", Gold Leaves' music lands solidly in the psychedelic indie-pop singer/songwriter vein, and the results are pretty impressive. Check out "The Ornament" and see for yourself. Gold Leaves - "The Ornament" [MP3] Gold Leaves on Facebook [...]

The name Grant Olsen may not ring a bell, but mention Arthur of Arthur & Yu, and that may turn on a light or two. If you're like me, you've been wondering where that band went - after all, they were the honored first release from Hardly Art . The answer is I don't know . But the good news is that we now have Gold Leaves , which is Olsen's (aka Arthur's) new project. Gold Leaves has signed to [...]
Behold, the mysterious Gold Leaves. Gold Leaves is the new solo project from Grant Olsen, who you most likely know from Arthur and Yu, and they were officially introduced to the internet today by My Old Kentucky Blog. And I'm so glad, because it means I have some concrete evidence as to what I've been [...]

Gold Leaves is the solo, performance moniker of Seattle-based songwriter Grant Olsen. I mention "solo," as Olsen might be previously known to you as one-half of the duo Arthur & Yu . It is probably misleading to call this solo project, however, as Olsen had a lot of help creating his new album. Jason Quever of Papercuts was by Olsen's side through most of the recording process, serving as co-producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist. Ben McConnell, Thao Ngyuen, Amy Blaschke, and members of the Moondoggies all contributed to the album as well. Vocally, [...]

Hardly Art Records From: Seattle, United States Mention Seattle and record label to any music buff and the first words that will form in their head are Sub Pop. Well maybe not any more. Sub Pop founder Jonathan Poneman's Hardly Art are the name to drop amongst those in the know and with a roster that makes major labels green with envy, including the outrageous Hunx and his Punx featured earlier this week, it may not be long [...]

The Maldives ::: Photo by Josh Lovseth These are the albums that defined my 2009. Some I consider to be the strongest local albums of the year while others held my attention and memory in a special way such that I kept coming back to them. While many of these albums are admittedly made by bands [...]

"Eet" by Regina Spektor Here is my list of thirty songs that dominated my iTunes, the songs that moved me to learn them on guitar, and the songs I will identify with 2009 forever. In no particular order. Though I suppose the top five could be my top five. "Walkabout" by Atlas Sound + guest Noah [...]

The Moondoggies ::: photo by Abbey Simmons These are the local songs I loved most during 2009. I can't ennumerate the list, believe me I tried. My absolute favorites are at the top of the list, but once you get beyond the top five-I can't really say what my 9th and 17th favorite songs are with a straight [...]
