This week's Featured Artist (I'm trying to bring this back into relevance) is Arthur & Yu , a soft and light folk album that is being released through Hardly Art Records . If you remember, Hardly Art is a label that was created by Sub Pop folks but isn't really an imprint label or anything. Only slightly confusing. Anyway, grab the single below. If you like it, purchase the album here . Arthur & Yu - Come To View (Song For Neil [...]
Every day, blogs and news outlets report on release dates and post promo MP3s, but it's hard to nail down a complete listing. Unless you're like me and you keep track of this stuff like it's your job (it is). So, in the spirit of saving everybody some effort and making this a handy resource, this page is a permanent, frequently updated listing of upcoming releases and, when available, MP3s from those releases. I'm not going to list every album on here -- just the ones that I'm personally excited about hearing. I'll add links to [...]

A crowd makes Noise for the Needy photo by Andy Smull Ever feel guilty about going to more than a few shows in a week? Or how about two shows in one night? It seems there's always work you could be doing, friends you could be meeting, or family you've been neglecting. If this sounds like you, be prepared to rawk with impunity! This coming week is chock full of guilt-free shows that will actually make you feel better about yourself for attending. [...]
The first CD to be released by Hardly Art is going to be Arthur and Yu's " In Camera " on June 19, 2007. The song is called "Come to View (A Song for Neil Young)" On a unrelated note You Say Party! We Say Die! will be in town tomorrow night at the Avalon Front for a show which can be seen for the cheap cheap price of 5 dolla's. Me thinks this is the closest they will get to the US for quite awhile. [...]

Kurt Cobain once claimed in an interview that Jonathan Poneman, the founder of the ceaseless label Sub Pop, coined the term "grunge". Considering the impact that the particular movement had on music in the late 80s and early 90s, it remains somewhat ironic that the word may have come from an industrial bigwig. Even though Cobain's statement has never actually been validated, Sub Pop's credentials would cause it to come as no surprise if it were. While Poneman's Sub Pop label is known today by the mass hysteria of high school hipsters as the label for sunny-day pop favorites like [...]
One for the hippy in all of us and the sort of effortless retro heeled sound to get you through a Sunday afternoon hangover. Arthur & Yu are the first act to be signed to the Sub Pop offshoot Hardly Art. The duo are from Seattle and their debut album 'In Camera' is to be released this summer. Before that comes out A&Y are going to feature on the new Dntel record and one can only imagine how

I ran into an old acquaintance (well, "old") at SXSW this year, and she had some good news - she just got a new gig as the general manager for a new label which has some ties to Sub Pop but not really. It wasn't really a stretch because Sarah had worked for Sub Pop before this, but I was still intrigued because I hadn't heard of the label, Hardly Art . To make it clear, it's NOT an imprint label and it's technically a separate enterprise (I think), but, well, it is still connected to Sub [...]

If it weren't for certain smaller record labels, the music scene would look quite different than it does today. It is very possible that some of your favorite musicians would have gone undiscovered. That is why I decided that the record labels should get their time in the sun on Indie Muse. A "mother's day" for record labels, if you will. "Wait a minute, I thought you hated record labels," you say. Umm. Yes, that is mostly true. But I don't hate all record labels. I like smaller labels, who treat their bands with respect, and are in the business [...]

We first heard Seattle's Arthur & Yu nearly a year ago , and they became one of those bands that would pop up occasionally on shuffle at the perfect time, seemingly to remind us how much we really liked them in the first place. Well I was happy to hear that the duo recently signed with brand new Sub Pop spin-off Hardly Art , which, not so coincidentally, will be run by our friend Sarah. Awesome! They've also released a great new song (via myspace ) from their upcoming Hardly Art [...]

Seattle, WA How could you not want to listen to Arthur & Yu after seeing that adorable photo? Cute, cute. "Lion's Mouth" Arthur & Yu on MySpace

If EAR FARM gave awards for popularity of songs that have been featured on the site, Arthur & Yu would surely have won one in 2006 for their song "Lion's Mouth". I've had more people tell me how much they love this song, more people ask "who is that?!" when I play it early in my DJ sets, than just about any other song. I'm not acting surprised though. I know full well how good "Lion's Mouth" is. It's beautiful and simple and perfect and I've posted it (again) below so be sure to [...]
