“The day we recorded Planet Rock, I went home that night and told my wife, ‘We’ve made musical history tonight.’” – Arthur Baker For most of us youngsters, it's impossible to imagine where the majority of music we listen to today would be if not for the huge strides and innovations made in technology over the past several decades. 30 years ago marked a turning point in music production when Arthur Baker, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force recorded their iconic track " Planet Rock ", using the (at that time) [...]
There have been rumblings about this Arthur Baker documentary, Planet Rock and Other Tales of the 808 , for a while now. And now that the first official trailer is out I’m like schoolboy giddy. The documentary waxes over how the Roland TR-808 changed the musical world starting from its most seminal record, “Planet Rock” by Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force. An Arthur Baker production that was released 30 years ago. There’s no two ways about it, Arthur Baker, both directly and indirectly, launched many careers in music. Rick Rubin and the Beastie Boys to modern-day stars [...]
Since we had a mash up yesterday , here's another which uses one of the same tracks and has a similar eighties electro pop feel. Long time mash up / bastard pop artist Tim aka Instamatic has Heaven 172s Let Me Go vs Arthur Baker's Rockers Revenge project ' Walking on Sunshine' with a little bit of Magnificent Seven by The Clash. Like the best mash ups, this gives you a little thrill of pop glee. Free download. Blurb: As premiered in the latest podcast , this mashup isn't my idea at [...]
This mix was resurrected by Greg Wilson for the Hacidenda 30 year anniversary in May. Two Arthur Baker productions for two quite different artists get welded together. Quite normal now but quite radical then. Free download. Greg explains: One of the world’s most celebrated clubs, The Haçienda, opened 30 years ago today, on Friday May 21st 1982. I’ll be heading over to Manchester tonight for the anniversary celebrations, joining other DJ’s from the club’s history to play a few tunes at a ticket only event (proceeds to charity) in [...]
It feels like there's been a bit of a time-warp today, sending us back to a whole year ago and causing us to re-write a series of swoony posts about the very track that first made us fall smitten with Friends . Earlier saw a Bands In Transit session surface and now we're doubling the tally with this intricate and well-paced remix (heck, it's more of a total reworking) of 'I'm His Girl' by none other than electronic veteran Arthur Baker . Have a listen below, courtesy of [...]
How great was that Gomma presents: Casablanca Reworks feat. Peaches EP ? There is nothing I enjoy more than a good refix, re-edit and a remix of a great track. Since great minds think alike, it's no surprise that Gomma had the same idea, and have released Casablanca Remixes , with remixes from Classixx , Arthur Baker , Mercury , Hugo Capablanca and Gojira . Sure I could have done this post a few days ago and given you a teaser of [...]
Fleetwood Mac - Family Party (Bonus Beats) Stevie better work...lookin like she just stepped out of a Heart video . This is Arthur Baker's mix of Family Man , the fifth single from Tango In The Night . You can get it on vinyl at discogs for like two dollars.
Woah, sorry for the silence around here, folks. Life has been wonderfully busy in my world, and I've had no time to digest all the awesome year-end stuff that's coming out now. But more important to me looking back on 2011, I need to get on previewing the awesome year ahead in live music now [...]
I've been without high speed internet for over 2 weeks now and it's noticeably affected the vitamin output. Following a botched attempt last week, Comcast should be hooking up my high speed internet service tomr morning... and although I've enjoyed my vacation from the interweb, I can't wait to get plugged in. Here's a little vitamin pack to hold you over before I get back into the swing of things. Love Always, - T3RR0R Emergency Vitamin Pack Zipped ( Download ) [...]

Maya Jane Coles, the young London based house producer who shot into the limelight with the release of the acclaimed "What They Say" dropped her latest, the Focus Now EP, not too long ago. For those unfamiliar with her work, and for those that just want some more of it, I highly recommend checking it out. Ms. Coles demonstrates her production abilities with a slew of deep, entrancing beats. The
Hands down, one of my favorite tracks of the year has to be Breakbot's "Fantasy". The groovy beat coupled with Ruckazoid's MJ like vocals just land perfectly. My only complaint is that there just isn't enough of it. Thankfully, Arthur Baker has taken the track and stretched it over 8 minutes while adding some New York nu-disco stylings. You can find this remix, along with another from Jacques Renault on the new "Fantasy EP", released yesterday. Breakbot - Fantasy (AB's Return to Disco New York Remix)
Jacques Renault tweaks the original with his remix of Breakbot's "Fantasy". Due out later this month on Ed Banger/Because and includes remixes from Ruckazoid and Arthur Baker. [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
Happy Friday New Yorkers! It's going to be quite the weekend, loaded with events, parties, and exquisite music. We're hoping to see many of you out at the Governors Ball tomorrow or at the Northside Festival through Brooklyn! For now, let me leave you with an upbeat Friday morning remix. It sounds as if Michael Jackson , Jamiroquai , and Parliament Funkadelic had a love child. But no, its our beloved [...]
Here's the video for Breakbot's new summer anthem. "Fantasy" is out June 20th on Ed Banger/Because, backed with remixes from Jacques Renault, Arthur Baker, and Ruckazoid. Buy here . Directed by Tony Frontal. In case you missed it, check out the roller boogie video for Jacques Renault’s remix of “Fantasy" here . Killer.
This remix basicly sounds exactly like a long lost Michael Jackson classic! Big up to Dan Terndrup from Cosmic Kids for getting that video made Remixes by Arthur Baker, Jacques Renault, and Ruckazoid, out late June on Ed Banger/Because.
The Original Jazzy Jay 2 Hr Interview , posted with vodpod The Original Jazzy Jay Strong City Records, Premiere Artists Group, New York, USA When it comes to the foundations of hip hop, Jazzy Jay certainly laid a couple of hefty cornerstones. A disciple of Afrika Bambaataa , Jazzy started out as a DJ in the Bronx , bringing the new sound to the New York masses, before he joined the team of Bam and Arthur Baker cold chillin' in the studio.
