Premiering Saturday, May 25th at an exhibition in Detroit will be previously unreleased material from noted singer/songwriter and cellist Arthur Russell . Part of the material will be a special alternate version of the Talking Heads ' seminal hit 'Psycho Killer', which features Russell on cello. Russell's contribution seems startlingly limited until roughly the 2:40 mark, scoring most of the song's climax. Information on the Detroit event is available here. Otherwise, listen the aforementioned track below. [via Dazed ]

There's a couple of well-known versions of "Psycho Killer" already out there: the studio version which appeared on The Talking Heads' debut album Talking Heads '77, and the live version from the 1984 live concert film Stop Making Sense, where Byrne brings out a boombox, announces to the crowd, "I have a tape I want to play," and goes into an acoustic version of the song. Now, there's one more to add to the list. According to the AV Club (via Dazed Digital ), this version of "Psycho Killer" was recorded with [...]

It’s Friday, which means we basically can’t wait to get into bed and sleep all weekend, and also that in the meantime we’re rounding up the best songs we’ve heard this week. The past several days were curious, largely devoid of big-name releases, etc., but there’s still notable new work from These New Puritans, The-Dream, Sharon Jones, and Eric Burdon (with help from Jenny Lewis.) Elsewhere, there’s pleasantly spaced-out electronic music from Airbird/Napolian and Stellar Om Source, an unreleased Arthur Russell track, wacky Ethiopian dubstep, and more! All this goodness is streaming now, and it all awaits you after the [...]

Hello world! Lets get two things straight - one, I'm neurotic as hell, and two, I devour music like a fat kid loves cake, and I love me some cake! Now that we have that out of the way… The lost art of the Mixtape. Remember when you would spend literally hours recording songs to those TDK tapes and trying your goddamned best to not cut the song off before it was actually over? Not only the recording part, but just sequencing the tapes was an art form too. Lest we forget dousing them with black ink penned [...]
The London-based music blogger shares her love for British music and fills us in on her musical taste.

Kindness, a one-man indie disco-funk band comprised of Adam Bainbridge, made its commercial recording debut with the "Swingin Party" single on Moshi Moshi Records in 2009. Splitting his time between London and Berlin, he cites influences that include American disco icons Arthur Russell, Larry Levan, and Leroy Burgess. The commercial recording debut of Kindness, "Swingin Party," a disco-punk cover version of the Replacements song, was an MP3 blog favorite in 2009, as was its B-side, "Gee Up." Promotional videos were released for both songs, and numerous comparisons were drawn between Kindness and Talking Heads. [...]

Julia Holter's live cover of "You & Me Both," originally by musician, Arthur Russell, will startle anyone familiar with the original track. Not only does Holter put her own spin on the experimental dance track, but she completely departs from the vibe of the original as a whole. It is pretty impressive. Matthewdavid recorded the cover on his tape recorder, so the audio quality is not pristine, but it gets the job done. The cover is to be released January 22 on the dual casse...

![[Listen] Julia Holter: "You & Me Both" (Arthur Russell Cover)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4726712_lg.jpg)

So I was browsing through my social network feeds when I noticed a little title saying "Julia Holter - You & Me Both", and I was like WHOA is this what I think it is?! Indeed, it was a Julia Holter cover of one of Arthur Russell 's many brilliant songs. It also happens to be a live recording with a lot of background noises, but really, who cares? Although musically very different from the original, Holter's expectedly gorgeous reinterpretation captures the vibe of Russell's songs quite well. The track is featured on the collaborative compilation [...]
