GODS ROBOTS are an electronica music duo made up of Taamara and DJ Janaka Selekta. They launched their first EP, Stormy Weather in November 2011 (available for free download here ) and are now touring India to promote their EP. Their sound is a mix of Carnatic and Hindustani classical music with electronica and dubstep as well as rock and reggae influences. The merging of these different genres of music is down to the duo's distinctly different backgrounds. Taamara is a Mumbai-based vocalist, who has a diploma in Carnatic music and has sung with Aditya Anand's electronica/house project [...]

You know Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan already, of course: he's the late Pakastani singer who brought qawwali music to the world. Sickeningly, we have Peter Gabriel to thank for that. It was on his Real World label that Khan's albums of intense and ecstatic devotional Sufi music were originally released. It turned out that harmonium, percussion and vocals wasn't the most popular mix of sound for most audiences, so a successful remix was made of the song Musst Musst . As I understand it that's in keeping with Sufi tradition, which is to always speak [...]

English Combining dancehall, dub beats, ragga and punk rock influences with hard hitting lyrics, the multicultural Asian Dub Foundation are back for 2011. Their new studio album again pushes the boundaries and asks questions while being different musically from previous releases. With the sound more expanded, it proves to be the bands most cohesive uplifting [...]
Asian underground pioneers Asian Dub Foundation are out with a video for the title track of their seventh studio album A History Of Now. The album is the follow-up to 20082s Punkara and is slated for a February release. ADF headlined our very own three-day music festival, the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune, last month and this single ( stream here ) was the centerpiece of their live set on their short India tour . 'A History Of Now' continues ADF's penchant for socio-political statements, in this [...]
When books are at their best they teach us not only about the lives of others but something about ourselves. That's why it is important to any culture that it has as diverse a selection of voices and writers as possible. White males, Scottish or otherwise, have been overrepresented historically and artistically, and anyone who [...]

Wednesday, December 15, saw the first of the Eristoff Invasion pre-parties - the Eristoff Wolf Night featuring Asian Dub Foundation , Mumbai dubstep/breakbeat trio Bay Beat Collective and New Delhi techno act B.L.O.T at Hard Rock Cafe, Mumbai. The electronica acts took the big stage at the venue, with their sound permeating the venue considerably more effectively than usual, blue lit with large visuals on screens and Russian fur-clad women giving out vodka shots, to a crowd comprised mostly of scenesters and post-Weekender peeps. After a couple hours of BBC's music set to [...]
Bacardi NH7 Weekender headliners Asian Dub Foundation are on a short India tour this week. The British six-piece electronica act destroyed the Eristoff Wolves Den on the final day of our three-day music festival, and will now play three cities as part of the pre-parties for the next big music festival on the horizon - Eristoff Invasion (to be headlined by The Prodigy ). Asian Dub Foundation released their sixth studio album Punkara in 2008. The album is a heavy part of the band's current set, including past singles like [...]

Festival headliners Asian Dub Foundation closed the Bacardi NH7 Weekender with a mammoth set at the Eristoff Wolves Den on Sunday, December 12. The British electronica act drew the biggest crowd of the festival and played a career-spanning set that included some new material as well. ADF's set was preceded by sets from Mumbai electro rock act Shaa'ir + Func, DJ Ivan and New Delhi electronica duo Midival Punditz. The band's high energy set was fueled by vocalists Aktarv8r and Al Rumjen who got a large portion of the audience to jump along to [...]
British electronica act Asian Dub Foundation will headline the first edition of our very own three-day jaunt in Pune. The Bacardi NH7 Weekender, held between December 10-12, will see ADF's first ever performance in India! The electronica act, whose 2008 album Punkara was very well received, will play a short tour of the country as well (details soon). In addition to Asian Dub Foundation, we have a few more international acts to add to this imminently delicious lineup. Brit indie rockers The Magic Numbers will make their India debut at the festival [...]

Loreana is putting on an interesting night of Yacht Rock on Thursday while a few of gigs are happening I was completely unaware of this morning: Fake Blood, Boy 8-Bit and Crystal Fighters. This is the 3nd entry in a mini-series looking at music used in films about football. [ Previous one here ] Why do they always use Jimmy or Billy or even Danny as a lead characters name ? This all started in 1996 when some producers err... "borrowed" the title of the magazine for their film and then named Sean Bean's character "Jimmy". This reached a peak in 2000 with a couple of releases which featured kids as the title character and both of [...]
I was in Brussels last weekend for the 3-day Couleur Café music festival. It was my third Couleur Café - it's becoming a bit of a tradition. If you've never been you should definitely check it out next year. I think the venue is changing in a couple years, so next year will be [...]
