Making the last-minute switch to headliner at Johnny Brenda's on Saturday night, Cults took the stage after 11 pm and played a brief set (under thirty minutes) of the catchy, charmingly dark music that has garnered them so much 'buzz' over the past year. Read on for our exclusive interview with Cults where they reveal how they really feel about SXSW, their cult-like obsession with Twin Sister, and the (before unreleased) title of their upcoming album: On Saturday night Cults (albeit briefly) turned JB's into a sort of warped sock-hop, all while projecting black-and-white footage [...]

Just when we thought Asobi Seksu were finished with their touring , the band add a few more shows to the mix. The next one is at Bowery Ballroom here in New York City on April 7. They get a few weeks off right after that, but it won't be long before they're south of the border in Mexico City on May 13 and touring elsewhere thereafter. The full schedule is below. Asobi Seksu tour dates: 04/07 - Bowery Ballroom - New York, NY [...]

Frank Yang This show was a week ago; I think this may actually be my longest delay between witness and writeup ever and, in fact, Jeff Tweedy's solo tour is just about over. So if you were waiting on some kind of report from opening night at Toronto's Queen Elizabeth Theatre to decide if it was worth picking up one of the few remaining tickets for a later date... I'm sorry. Sorry that you would allow anything I say or do to influence your decision-making - you know I'm drunk most of the time, [...]

Toronto - Are you sick of our SXSW coverage yet? I'm not, but I love that festival and will forever love it. No matter how much I gripe about any problems there might be with it, make no mistake, SXSW is one of my favorite things on Earth. There is a reason why most people who go once, go again and again. It's fantastic. Here are our final thoughts from the Panic Manual crew regarding this festival. Best Act Ricky : For [...]
The other week I posted about New York shoegazers Asobi Seksu, speaking about their latest album Fluorescence as well as getting a bit excited by their upcoming UK tour. Kindly, the folks at One Inch Badge Records have got in touch to say they'd be more than happy to to give away two free tickets to their show at Brighton Audio on April 21 to one lucky frequenter of this here blog. That's pretty cool, 'cause my guess is it'll be a really good (and pretty darn noisy) [...]

Asobi Seksu at Johnny Brenda's in Philly
![SXSW Review: Asobi Seksu [Parish, March 19, 2011]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3313552_lg.jpg)
Baltimore - Every year at SXSW, things occur at the Parish that should stay at the Parish. It is one of those magic space, a simultaneously synchronized spacetime between this an another universe that inherits the properties of neither. It happened again this year. But first let me set the scene. Casiokids were playing as I mounted the stairs at Parish. There was no visible way of getting past the sound desk as the funnel between it and the bar was already crowded with people taller than me on stilts. I grudgingly sat down on the stupid incline - like [...]

Sebadoh peforms March 25th at Johnny Brenda's FRIDAY, MARCH 25 In yesterday's Philly Local Philes , John Vettese described local no-wave act Normal Love as sounding "something like what Deerhoof did before smoothing their sound out on 2008's Offend Maggie "; a couple of months before that, I described the band as a less-conventional version of The Stick Men. Which basically means that, if you're a fan of abrasive, clanging, hyperactive noise-rock, Normal Love will probably become your new favorite band. Otherwise, it's [...]

Cults aka the buzziest band of the moment ever will be playing with Asobi Seksu and Warm Ghost this Saturday at Johnny Brenda's in Philly. Cults generated some really positive live coverage during SXSW and have just released the new You Know What I Mean (see below), with their full album dropping on May 30th. Check back next week for WQHS's full coverage of their show at JB's. Cults - You Know What I Mean by cultscultscults

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Queens of the Stone Age w/ The Dough Rollers Monday, March 21 Center Stage - 1374 West Peachtree Street NW in Atlanta 30309 SOLD OUT I'm not really up to spelling this out for anyone. I've got a brutal head cold and the Atlanta pollen is wreaking havoc on my sinuses. Really, I just want to make it out to the show and not have my head explode. And, at this point, if I have to explain to you why tonight's [...]
One of the ironies of setting up this recap the way I have, and venturing to SXSW in general, is that the odds of me seeing something truly awful are very slim. It's not like I'm going to spend my time at some dive bar on 6 th St. listening to 300 jangly alt-country bands. I've pretty much lined up a scenario where I have to hear the bare minimum of shit I don't enjoy. I spent my day yesterday at Prefix's day party at ND, and bias aside, it was a lineup that would have had me there [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: The Cranberries, Best Coast "Asobi Seksu - Sighs" What's so good? There's something very intimate about seeing some of your favorite bands get down and dirty at historical L.A. venue the Troubadour. The sweet odor of sweat and collective passion left behind by all the legends who have come before is like fertilizer to the experience. If you've been there, you know what I mean. This venue is most surely [...]
Mother Jones interviews T.C. Boyle about his new novel, When the Killing's Done . MJ: Would you say you're a satirist? TCB: What I'm doing is exploring things. This is why I'm a fiction writer rather than an essayist or a politician or whatever. I just gather material and find a scenario, and see where it takes me. I don't have a plan. Of course, at some point, I realize what it is, and I realize how all the works are connected, and so on, but [...]

Braids - Lemonade (Lemon Party Bliss Out - Landon Spears Remix) One of our favorite albums to drop this year was Braids' Native Speaker. Today, they announced a U.S tour alongside bhb favorites Baths, Star Slinger, Asobi Seksu, Toro Y Moi, Cloud Nothings, and Of Montreal - in no specific order. Check all dates: 03-10 [...]
You know what Asobi Seksu have gone and done? They've only gone and released a good album. I mean, who does that anymore? I thought that shit died with Betamax (yeah sorry kids, Betamax is dead). The album is good, but it's not great, and definitely not as good as the other Asian-lady-fronted album of 2011, Deerhoof's "Deerhoof Vs. Evil", now that's a great album. Towards the tail end of 2010 they gave us the album's lead track "Trails" that incidentally was remixed by Deerhoof not that long ago, and now thanks [...]
