Iibiis Rooge is a collaboration between sonic predator High Wolf (France) and Astral Social Club 's Neil Campbell (England). Their latest audio gift is a cassette titled Life in a Bloodcell . A more perfect description of the music contained within these tracks would be nigh on impossible. Straight from a PBS program on the complexities of biology, physiology, anatomy, etc, etc, this music takes the listener into a deep introverted world. Side A is fifteen minutes worth of a couple tracks that veer from trance beats to electronic bubbling. The first half wraps up with Philip Glass [...]

Friday 30th March @ The Croft Bristol Regrettably missed most of Serena's set, British summer time still messing with my head I guess... Only caught the last two tracks, one of which was absolutely Godhead in its loopian intensity...brought me right back to that cold night back in early twenty twelve... Next up was Matty W in the front bar - always a pleasure to behold... and under his freshly [...]

The Pogues on record are never short of inspirational, and in person, they might be a life-changing experience. This hackle-raising blend of traditional Irish folk music, politically charged broadsides and electric rock 'n' roll, delivered by charismatic frontman Shane MacGowan flanked by a grizzled band of veterans that includes penny-whistle virtuoso/alternate vocalist Spider Stacy, was [...]
And so we gathered in Dalston for the start of a three day celebration of...of what exactly? Well it isn't The Wire's 25th birthday, I'm pretty sure I remember that one taking place a couple of years back. It seems the purpose of this festival is purely to celebrate the new: The Wire picking holding [...]

Situated squarely between the output of the Kompakt label and Black Dice sits Neil Campbell's Astral Social Club. Campbell utilizes the basis of repetitive German groove but adds a splash of noise and cut electronics to the mix to keep this from being just another minimal techno workout. Pushing repetition into hallucinogenic spaces, Octuplex sways into some pretty hazy headspace as it progresses with slow phases sweeping out the mechanical grind of beats like rising waves of euphoria. Campbell's deft ability at manipulating noise should come as no surprise given his roots in Vibracathedral Orchestra and Sunroof but [...]
Astral Social Club - Monster Mittens Astral Social Club - Flaming Ramoon I've never had conjunctivitis before but now it appears that I do, as my eyes are often clamped shut with crusty yellow gunk when I wake up during the night and that a lot of the time my eyes are blurry with this snotty shit and it looks like I'm totes stoned or something, an aesthetic which was furthered by not sleeping for like forty hours and inhaling dry aeroplane air through my eyes most of [...]
