The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock are being talked about in high regard as they have begun gigging again in the run up to the release of the band's second album. Here's my favourite track from the self-titled debut. In Country Dark by The Spook of The Thirteenth Lock In fact for just a fiver you can see the band with 8 other superb bands in Whelans this Saturday in the Hefty Fest: [...]
Part two of my best albums of 2010 counts down numbers 75 to 51.

Words: Gareth O'Malley While the atmosphere of this celebratory knees-up at The Workman's Club was a little more subdued than would be expected - Halves have just released their debut album after all - the powerful nature of the group's music made up for it in spades. The warm-up act was At Last An Atlas ( Greg O'Brien with vocal assistance from Francis Downey ), and their soaring electro-pop may have seemed like an odd contrast to the atmospheric post-rock of the headliners, but [...]
One of our Faces of 2010, Take The Money And Run , play their debut Dublin headliner at Whelan's on October 6th. Support comes from Sleep Thieves and At Last An Atlas.

There are some really great bands on the line-up for the Hard Working Class Heroes 2010. Many of the bands below I've done my fair share of writing on the past. Looks like it'll be a great festival! http://www.hwch.net At Last An Atlas At Last An Atlas - Heaven Knows by atlastanatlas [...]
Last night saw the launch of Ireland's best domestic festival (and by that I mean a festival that has only Irish acts - unlike the bigger names of Oxegen and Electric Picnic). This year's Hard Working Class Heroes takes place over the weekend of the 7th, 8th and 9th of October with over 100 acts [...]
I had to do some digging to find out any extended information on Dublin resident Greg O'Brien -- the man behind the extremely DIY electronic pop project At Last An Atlas. Back in the spring of last year, Greg quietly put out his first release as a split LP with fellow Dublin resident Paul O'Reilly. After that, he took At Last An Atlas stateside for a fall mini-tour of the US before releasing his own debut LP "From Which We Were Raised" earlier this year on Slow Loris Records. At Last An Atlas was also [...]

Photo by Rich Gilligan . Below you will find the fourth annual countdown of the top 30 Irish albums as voted by readers and commenters of this blog. There are some surprises in there to me. The number one album on the list actually won by a fair few votes. In a year where there was no clear favourite, it's interesting to see such an album top the list. A few of the albums charted quite highly considering they were only released in the last month or so. Anyway, I hope you discover [...]
Biggles Flies Again - Chocks Away Chocks Away is a three-track EP recorded by Conor Deasy a.k.a. Biggles Flys Again . All three tracks were recorded in a single day back in May 2008 in the now defunct Great Wall of Sound Studios. Each track is a lazy, hazy wandering summer ballad with acoustic, guitar, keyboard, stylophone, ukulele and em, glockenspiel. But before you go thinking this is everything-but-the-kicthen-sin k-twee think again. The arrangements are sparse and enjoyably subtle. Deasy's vocal is warm and familiar. Lead track 'Your House' is immediately reminiscent of The Beatles [...]
It's often the simple things in life that are the most treasurable. The same can often be said of music and on the recent split release from Paul O'Reilly and At Last At Atlas this truth is borne out. The latter's contribution was conceived and recorded at home by Greg O'Brien (he is also a member of Dublin band the Hollows) and is as touching as it is fragile. The music while skeletal has
