No one buys albums anymore, goes the music industry truism. And yet, for all that the format's commercial viability may or may not be on the wane, sitting and listening to a great album from start to finish is one of the greatest pleasures that music can bring. Cedric Bixler-Zavala, formerly of The Mars Volta and At The Drive-In, has launched a brand new project. Zavalaz - which is just Zavala with an extra z - also features guitarist Dan Elkan (Them Hills, Broken Bells), drummer Gregory Rogove (Megapuss), and bassist Juan Alderete de la Peña (The Mars Volta, Racer X). They'll hit the road together next month for a series of shows along the West Coast. Having read ALLEN GINSBERG’s Howl maybe a hundred times, my inner guts still have convulsions when I read "Carl Solomon! I’m with you in Rockland". The Field lends his minimalist hand to this rendition of At The Drive-In's hit "One Armed Scissor."
