When someone sells something to you with comparisons to Atlas Sound and Kurt Vile, you know you’re either going to be left ecstatic or mightily underwhelmed. Fortunately, in the case of Oliver Wilde, the former definitely applies. “Perrett’s Brook”, true to those comparisons, enters with that laconic, Vile-esq drawl, circling round unsettling, butchered fragments of guitar that would make Mr Bradford Cox himself proud. We’re already sold, but then the track blossoms into a wall of sound which goes straight for the emotional jugular; it could even be Fuck Buttons at their as-yet-undiscovered tenderest depths. [...]

There will, in the none too distant future, come a day when All Tomorrow's Parties' beachside shenanigans are no more. Presently, there remain three occasions in which to get deep down (and dirty as a Pontins bedsheet) down Camber Sands before Barry Hogan and Deborah Kee Higgins roll up the roadshow and take ATP to as yet uncharted territories this coming winter. Recent reconfigurations within the company are then to make themselves unmistakably manifest, as the two final weekends in November are to commemorate The End Of An Era . Petitions have been signed in favour of the protraction of [...]

In the space of a few recuperative days, we relocate from the stones of Brighton to the sands of Barcelona. During transitory stints over the past few summers I've sat with the Mediterranean shoreline between my toes, gazing forever longingly over toward the exotic gleam of the iconic, angular slant of the Parc del Fòrum's placa fotovoltaica as it juts out into the great unknown in the general direction of all the more peculiar continents. Then, it sat beside the sea an intangible dream; now, it becomes an intense reality. Life even, if only for a few [...]

Earlier versions of "Sandy" have been making the rounds for awhile along with a couple other tunes from Jackson Scott's Asheville NC based, bedroom pop project. Pitch shifted vocals and lo-fi tape saturation help make an already good song into a shining gem relatable to the Elephant 6 collective or Atlas Sound or a number of other significant indie DIY artists. "Sandy" finally makes its way out as an official Fat Possum release in order to promote for Jackson Scott's debut full length, Melbourne , out on the label July 23rd.

Photo by Mike Benigno There are some musicians that deserve to get Dissected because the inner workings of their catalog are mysterious, aspects and functions of their musical organs shrouded in mystery. And then there are musicians like Bradford Cox , people who have already so expertly vivisected themselves that you’d be foolish to not take the opportunity for a detailed examination. That’s not to say that Cox’s work could be considered entirely straightforward and tangible; whether recording with Deerhunter or as Atlas Sound , his music ripples with abstracting psychedelia, [...]

If he weren't so dead-set on making music that could be deemed as capital "A" art, Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox could be a very good rock star. He's outspoken, audacious, practically writes his own headlines, and is absolutely impossible to look away from when he brings his A-game ( and, occasionally, when he doesn't ). So maybe it should come as a surprise that Monomania , the Georgia quintet's sixth studio album, is their most accessible and amibitious album yet, and maybe it shouldn't. Since [...]

Just to be clear: It's Oliver Wilde . Not Olivia. Although we welcome those of you looking for celebrity news to stick around and listen to "Flutter," the latest track from this Bristol artist. "Flutter" is a downtempo alt-folk track - or in the words of Mr. Wilde, "lo-fi glitch tinsel" - that'll hit the spot if you're looking for a strange, soothing break to your day. Fans of Deer Hunter and Atlas Sound should take notice. Stream "Flutter" below. STREAM: Oliver Wilde - "Flutter"
When Monomania was introduced to the world via a wilfully bizarre Bradford Cox-penned press release , it would seem that Deerhunter were creating something difficult with a capital ‘D’, ears were set to unlistenable as words such as ‘avant-garde’ started floating about. It was supposed to be an angular, bratty middle finger to what had gone before, a back-to-basics boot camp fleeing the structure and openness of 2010’s Halcyon Digest . The title track that was unleashed as a taster of their ‘nocturnal garage’ was all brutal fuzz and vicious feedback. Gone [...]

The press release for Deerhunter's Monomania included the cryptic line describing the record as "avant garde(?) but only in context not form." It's a confounding statement meant to confuse and add spectacle, though neither are necessary. Such is the way of Bradford Cox , Deerhunter 's enigmatic frontman who has grown into his own as both rock star and entertainer. His artsy tendencies have been traded in for his love for American music, making Monomania a mix of not [...]
The artwork adorning the sixth full-length studio effort from Atlanta, Georgia alt. stalwarts Deerhunter depicts its title, Monomania , aglow in igneous neon. Monomania is, as the dictionary duly informs, 'exaggerated or obsessive enthusiasm for or preoccupation with one thing' which, truth be known, is not altogether dissimilar to the reaction the band these days command as Bradford Cox & co. have become synonymous with both independence and invigoration. They're easy to fall for, in short. And we fell pretty hard for their previous – the oneiric, yet still lucid and direct Halcyon Digest . Thus [...]
There's nothing quite like a punningly alluring nom de plume and whether that be Joy Orbison or Com Truise, it coats a first impression in an albeit superficial patina of further intrigue. Were I to forge a band right around now, I'd probably go with Waste Coasts and in keeping with wordplay of a wry sartorial theme here's Calgary outfit Lab Coast . Unabashedly schooled in the Bradford Cox school of slackened melancholy, Chris Dadge et al. trend in similarly wistful odes to forgotten summers although unassuming standout As Usual, replete with lyrics lamenting the "apathetic society" that has all but [...]

Following 20102s critically acclaimed Halcyon Digest , the members of Deerhunter has been busy, as they have been involved with their various side-projects (including frontman Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound and guitarist Lockett Pundt's Lotus Plaza ), are working on curating their own day of ATP, and have finally announced their long-awaited return in follow-up with the forthcoming May 7th release of Monomania via 4AD. Our first taste of the new album comes in the form of title track [...]
You've got two options when it comes to listening to "Monomania," Deerhunter's first single from their fifth record of the same name: you can stream the track on its own, or you can watch the band's debut performance of it on Jimmy Fallon last night. If you want to check out Deerhunter's slightly revised lineup in assorted patterned shirts and don't mind some mild, Bradford Cox -typical gore (you'll see), check out the live video; if you just want to hear them summon demons in the heaviest (and, somehow, among the catchiest?) song they've probably [...]
It's a widely renowned reality that Deerhunter , or rather the Deerhunter that fabricated the seminal likes of Microcastle and Halcyon Digest , is a far cry from the beast Bradford Cox had initially intended to bring into the world. He was looking for an outlet; an opportunity to unleash his more confrontational, and with that unhinged compositional work on the discerning, chin-stroking audience in which the band have incidentally kindled an unending infatuation regardless. And as he here puts on his best Karen O impression to set about shrieking "Mono-Monomania" on this, the title track [...]

Grossly belated as this may be, there are certain gospels that need preaching at any possible opportunity. And though Floridian Yuno (previously unouomedude) may have released the distinctly estival Sunlight last August, it's a scintillating ray that's still well worth the spreading. Like a jejune Deerhunter intermingled with earlier AnCo recordings and the poppier sensibilities of a certain Chazwick Bundick, it's a suitably warming sliver of shimmering Southeast Coast ebullience, even amid these gelid February climes. The ultimate all year round wonder then, get enlightened below... Sunlight by Yuno Yuno's [...]
