Photograph by Yasmeen Ghebari Amidst all of this holiday season craziness, here is a list of favourite things that happened at the Halifax Pop Explosion 2012, the twentieth anniversary of the festival, for you to ponder how awesome the festival is and why you should probably attend it next year. of Montreal Not sure if you guys all know (you probably do) but of Montreal is fantastic live. Hands down one of the more entertaining shows I've ever been to. I found myself giggling uncontrollably a number of times throughout their [...]

Based on Jon Savage's book of the same name, the film's official website describes it as "an unconventional historical film about the invention of teenagers," one which "reveals the pre-history of modern teenagers and the struggle between adults and adolescents to define youth." Wolf worked with a wealth of archival material and also directed [...]

When people talk about Divine Fits, they generally don't complain that the band lacks for A-list indie-frontman star power - for most bands, Britt Daniel and Dan Boeckner would be able to hold it down in that regard. But I don't care if you're CSNY, the Traveling Wilburys, or Twilight - when you're in Atlanta and Deerhunter/Atlas Sound mainman Bradford Cox is hanging around, there's no reason not to shove a mic in the guy's face and rip through a version of the Ramones' "53rd and 3rd." Indeed, Cox joined Divine Fits on stage for precisely that purpose [...]

If Melody's Echo Chamber – the nom de plume of Parisienne ravissante Melody Prochet, and with that the name of her début full-length that here finds itself under intense scrutiny – may sound like some psychedelia-soused Room 101 draped in optical illusions, then it's best advised you check such preconceptions of convention at the door and enter a torturously hypnotic pièce de résistance. For Melody's Echo Chamber is, without question, one of the releases of this swiftly disintegrating year. Thankfully, as it continues to unravel, Prochet is at hand to seam some otherworldly finesse [...]

Fun Fun Fun Fest is right around the corner now and it's time for all of us to really start taking a hard look at the schedule. Â One big decision I'm seeing weighing heavily on everyone's mind is Sunday late night with 3 solid bands all playing at the exact same time. Â Up in this fight to the death battle we have Explosions in the Sky, Fucked Up, and Atlas [...]
