I don't remember too much about yesterday. I had one of those nasty head colds. It felt like I was at a move theater, watching my life up on the big screen. I wasn't so much a participant, just a casual observer. I think at one point I observed myself running for 17 miles. At another I drifted from one hospital pavilion to another (four times over) in the company of a bunch of pregnant women. There may have been a moment or two where I was walking on all fours pulling third rank in a pack that included an [...]
These Motor City devils keep on moving. - By Ryan Stephenson

Once shrouded in almost complete mystery, Vår have now emerged from the shadows to present a beautiful, frightening, startling debut. What started as the lo-fi basement project of friends Elias Bender Rønnenfelt and Loke Rahbek has now evolved into a full and completely novel four-piece. The sounds on No One Dances Quite Like My Brothers - which range from rich and evocative to striking and scary- more than speak for themselves, but still, Vår have a habit of hiding behind them. Who are these young men, exactly? Is Vår an Iceage side project? A dark dance duo? Or something else [...]
Fell Voices bring together all their noise and racket to create a true work of art. - By Ryan Stephenson
The Illinois born, Ryan Raddon, better known by his stage name, Kaskade , is one of the greatest DJ / producers in America. His start in deep house, propelled him to stardom as he moved towards more big-room, progressive tracks. Receiving a lot of flack for 'straying from his original sound', Kaskade presents ' Atmosphere .' In the midst of his " It's You, It's Me Redux Tou r", Kaskade teases the preview for this new tune. Self labeled as a 'Indie House' track, the tune definitely sees Ryan divert from his usual production sounds. The more [...]
This is just what it sounds like when it’s done right; an indie rock record by those lately dearly missed lads after coming back around the block, two years older and two years wiser – still making bombastic, swaggering, melancholic rock music. But listen closer. This time they are subtly more perceptive, in composure, mainly The post The Boxer Rebellion - Promises appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .
Premiered back in March on the main stage of Ultra Music Festival, Kaskade's newest single "Atmosphere" has been officially previewed by the man himself via SoundCloud. While Kaskade's productions are well known for featuring the vocals of Haley Gibby and similarly enchanting singers, in a change of pace, Raddon has lent his own voice to "Atmosphere." With light piano chords and celestial subject matter, "Atmosphere" is sure to win over the hearts of the progressive house world. Stay tuned for its official release on June 10th. This two-piece atmospheric metal ensemble buckles and obliterates their musical instruments to create a distinctive brew of horror and melancholy. - By Lav Nandlall

What is seemingly in the same realm of xxyyxx, Giraffage and Mister Lies, Blackedout may be the next thing when it comes to atmospheric sounds and beats. Not much is known about the producer, but the cumulative listens on the just released EP are quickly rising. A standout from that four track free Blackedout EP is "Bambi". Laying down a smooth drum track over a bed of forest inspired chords and sounds, Blackedout takes you back to your childhood memories and the innocence tied with it. By Brian Litwin [...]

With less than a week left until finals end and summer officially begins, it's time for me to break out Atmosphere's "Summer Song." For years, no matter what my favorite summer jam of the moment might be, this track has been the one constant. Some summers I've played it every day, some summers less often, but the effect is always just as powerful. Fair warning - this probably isn't the best song to put on your summer party playlist. Its melancholy tone is better suited for solo drives on warm nights. Summer [...]

This week on Twitter Disclosure responds to will.i.am and Justin Bieber's new song, artists send their love to AraabMuzik, and Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste reminds us of a very important day coming up. Here is the week on Twitter:

Only places like Antarctica and Russia endure things as unreasonable as blizzards in May, right? Wrong. In fact, our favorite midwest metro is expecting another inch of the white stuff today. In case you don't know, today is MAY 3RD. That's not going to stop the fine folks at RSE and Rose Presents though; the guys just dropped the official lineup for their annual festival of hip hop and commerce: Soundset. This is the sixth year in a row Atmosphere's own Rhymesayers Entertainment empire curated the event in which he'll headline and the bill [...]
Agrimonia have earned their Rite, and then some. - Ryan Stephenson

Independent record labels are sprouting up all over the place - in location & style. And the ones that are doing it right not only have a choice selection in catalogue, but also take the time to artfully craft their image as they do their artists. Each of these 12 labels sport some of the most well respected producers & musicians that belong on this blog and create a culture with style around their music. On here I may point out a few that lack in proper online presence, but they are all doing [...]
Underground MC Illogic has united with producer Blockhead to make some old school hip-hop with a clear voice to it. The tracks on this album give me vibes from older Atmosphere albums, including the lyrical content and flow of Illogic is even close to Slug in some ways. Each song is consistent and has a lot of fun beats that can be expected by this point with Blockhead on them. It's exciting to see a lot of variety in the genre right now, with artists bringing back a particular 90s sound right here while others are going in [...]

Hey everyone! Since growing up, my music tastes have evolved a lot. They began with 90s bands like Smash Mouth and even Weird Al. But as I aged, certain life events called for certain genres. Celebratory moments with friends after graduation. Sad moments after a breakup or loss of a family member. And of course, the soundtrack to one of those random happy days blasting a favorite tune on repeat in the car. Just like scent, sound, too, is encoded in the neural connections your brain makes with every memory. It's through [...]
