Last Tuesday night, I was blessed to see two very talented acts on stage, both alternative rock bands, at the great Bootleg Theater in Silver Lake. When we first arrived, The Dance Party from Washington D.C. was already killing it on stage. They provided so much energy in their sets. The crowd was loving every [...]

I know that I am often behind the times when it comes to new technology - I still have an original iPhone - and I am often perplexed at the need for the next new thing when the old one still works fine, so I know I'm late to the gate about iPhone/iPad applications that make your mobile device into a musical instrument but a few things have caught my attention lately and so I decided to actually, you know, Google it. What first caught my attention was the video made by Atomic Tom . [...]
While down in Austin, TX performing at this year's South By Southwest music conference, NJ's Waking Lights found the time to interview some bands on behalf of NJU.

Atomic Tom performs the Human League's "Don't You Want Me" for the soundtrack to the movie TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT . Atomic Tom's video features the cast from the movie recreating classic 80's scenes and characters. take a look below: Atomic Tom - Do You Want Me (The Human League)

atomic tom - don't you want me ( take me home tonight soundtrack) [nothing like a cover of a popular human league song to get the interest rolling for this silly 80's superbad for adults flick. call me sentimental, but any video that has it's stars rehashing classic 80's movie scenes is worth a watch!] and here's the trailer! http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld
everywhere we look on this Friday afternoon we're surrounded by covers. latest one being the ATOMIC TOM putting their Brooklyn rocking fingers onto the HUMAN LEAGUE's DON'T YOU WANT ME mp3. can you spot all the 802s music references belows ? wotyougot

~ mediafired - "Cinderella's Big Score" ~ A weird, possibly frustrating song for some but I love it (although it wouldn't hurt shaving off a minute or two at the end). It samples bits of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" (a personal favorite of mine) which it warps and twists around, making it sound like a bunch of drunken ghosts having a gathering. No, really. Completely awesome. So of course I found it via BEKO DSL . ~ Dream Band - "Mr Shaking And Pills To Judge" ~ [...]

I had a crummy weekend and decided that the best remedy - besides eating lots of chocolate - would be to make a mix full of hope, self-pity and plain nonsense. Enjoy! Friday night was a special CMJ night as I had the privilege of seeing a lot of personal favorite musical artists. First off, I made a stop at Arlene's Grocery to check out the quick-risers, Atomic Tom . Whether or not you're familiar with their music, you may be familiar with their YouTube video that features them performing their song "Take Me Out" on a NYC Subway. But these are more than just four dudes that sat on a subway and made a cool video. [...]
Nothing But Our Love - Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Nothing But Our Love - Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. ( Free Download ) Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr . is definitely a contender for biggest breakout act of CMJ, especially after having made at least seven appearances during the five day festival. They were nothing like I expected yet everything I'd want them to be, doling out utterly irresistible synth-pop complete with pounding drum beats and flawless falsetto harmonies, the likes of which are extremely hard to come by! No [...]
One of the benefits of having heaps of bands in a "marathon" such as comes each year in CMJ in NYC is the exposure of bands we haven't heard of as yet. Here is local Brooklyn's Atomic Tom, performing a couple of tracks in Arlene's Grocery, very cool, we will definitely put them on our radar! One of the best performances we've seen on here so far in our "youtube" coverage! check out their myspace to learn more about AT [...]

I can always count on a newspaper from Jakarta, Indonesia (approximately 9,000 miles away) to tell me what's going on on the B train in my own backyard. Brooklyn's Atomic Tom have come to the world's attention for performing one of their songs, "Take Me Out", on the subway using iPhone apps instead of live instruments. It's a pretty fun video and another reason to lurve technology. That said, we should mention these boys know how to use real instruments. While cool for a YouTube video, I don't foresee bands pawning their Fenders and Yamahas for [...]
