It's almost Halloween. That means that The Marshmallow Ghosts are here to provide some haunting music and videos. The Ghosts just released their first full-length album, self-titled The Marshmallow Ghosts , and an accompanying album-length music video called Corpse Reviver No. 2 . The Marshmallow Ghosts have been a side project for members of numerous bands from Graveface Records over the past few years. This reincarnation features members from Lady Lazarus, Dreamend, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Casket Girls and, Lawrence's own, Hospital Ships . The album features songs titled "Shrieks," "Creaks," [...]
When an artist embarks on a solo project at a young age, the pursuit is commendable. Such ambition is shown on the full-length album by Leaves of Green, Imago. The album was created by one James Madole, a 20-year-old student at New York University. On his debut, Madole uses an infusion of vocals, guitar, ukulele, [...]

Nick Diamonds is former Unicorns and Islands members Nick Thorburn. The Diamond man releases today, I Am an Attic, an 11-song digital LP available on Bandcamp for whatever price you see fit. Expect a lot of the same "serious absurdity" and "measured goofiness" you've come to expect from Thorburn's releases with Unicorns and Islands. Attic is most defnitely cut from a similar sort of cloth. The whimsical lead track "Attic" is the standout of the set. You can get more info on Nick and I Am an Attic here [...]
Chiamasi supertormentone.
Once again it has been far too long since gave a nod to the Please Rock collective. Who would have thought that a band could make a living playing covers any more? These guys do. Of course, there are two easy explanations for that. First, they do it well. Their renditions are faithful to the original but not so much so that they don't add a few of their own flourishes. Second, they always entertain. They appreciate their fans and make every performance a party for those on [...]
Attic.mp3 The Norwegians are representing indie electronica hard in the form of " Harrys Gym ". The name Harrys Gym (no apostrophe) is taken from the abandoned fitness centre that they used to record, produce and mix their eponymous debut album. The album has actually been available in Scandinavia since October 2008 but will be getting its UK release on 10th May. This single "Attic" makes use of [...]

Since I don't have a regular dj night anymore, I guess I'll just call my nights "Playing Records" since that sounds as good as anything else I can come up with. Anways, Playing Records will happen on Thursday May 6th at 111 Minna for an awesome group show and then again on Friday May 7th at The Attic where a Smiths night may very well be happening with Jay Howell. But who knows I am very finicky sometimes.. Come say hi.

Checking with at the Blue Walrus today I read a post about a Norwegian band called Harrys Gym . Instantly, I was drawn into their track 'Attic', making me think of a wild mix of Secret Machines , Land Of Talk , Yeah Yeah Yeahs . Possibly not-yet-known on this side of the pond, the bands eerie blend of psychedelic pop smeered in atmosphere and blissed out melodies will no doubt be something that we can all fall for. Check it out. Attic - Radio Edit by [...]

There must be something in those frozen fjords as we see some more Scandinavian dreamers cross our paths with Norway's Harrys Gym ( MySpace ). They may not be new to some from that part of the world (apparently they used to be in a hippy/blues band called Dharma years ago), but this time they should be making their mark over here with their self-titled debut dropping on 17th May. You could describe them as almost electric/indie shoe gaze, but the vocals of Anne-Lise Frokedal offer a broken, haunting depth that others can only allude to, [...]

Manchester has always been a hot spot for the latest and greatest new music and Dirty Analogue are looking to continue this mantra with their tech-house night at the Attic on 26th January. They have special guest Alex Jones as well the usual host of Dirty Analogue residents - should be a banging night. Alex has really been gathering pace with his releases, which have appeared on his own label (Hypercolour) and other prestigious names such as Murmur, Kindisch and Viva Music. Alex will take helm at the wheel by bringing with him his [...]
Some pop songs are just transcendent. (Video/song match is not ideal, to say the least.) It's probably an overused word, to be fair, and in and of itself it probably shouldn't be taken to mean anything other than a way [...]

Fusing the soulful sounds of the 80s such as Rare Groove & New Jack Swing with a new skool off kilter Hip-hop sound and touches of House , Stevie J aka West London based beat maker, Funkineven 1956 steps nicely into the warm, fuzzy and funkadafied musical family that is Eglo Records alongside fellow siblings Floating Points , Fatima and Shuanise [...]

Oh, thank goodness, I'm not totally crazy... Last year, I was convinced that the version of Måns Zelmerlöw 's "Miss America" being played on Swedish radio, at least some of the time, was different from the version on the album--subtly different, just really with enhanced drums, but I was sure that difference existed. Despite all my searching, though, I couldn't find anything to support that information. The only remixes available at the time were definitely not the version I thought I'd heard: they were all dance versions. I only just saw that [...]

I just got around to reading the description of Danny's new album on Ginza and was thrilled by one piece of information in it. We already knew that Andreas Carlsson wrote and produced "Utopia," that Danny wrote or co-wrote "Turn Off The Sound," and that "Radio" is the work of Michel Zitron (who's said to have done most of the tracks on the album; he's also the writer of "If Only You," among other things), but up until now I'd not known that The Attic--Eric Amarillo and Michael Feiner--also wrote a track on the album! Fantastic [...]

The Attic - Easy Love "I want it all and I can't let go" I was just listening to some tracks from the Attic's excellent 2007 album Remember Tomorrow last night and went on the internet to see what's up with them now. I knew about their recent cover of Secret Service's Flash In The Night (in itself a pop masterpiece), but who knew they'd released other new songs in [...]

Another of the "how did I not know about this?" releases of the past few weeks is the latest from the Attic. They put out two long remixes of "Flash In The Night" a while ago, but in mid-September they finally released the proper radio version (as well as extended mixes), though as far as I know not in Sweden itself. I'm thrilled to be getting new material from them, though, and hopefully this means we'll get the other songs on their MySpace eventually, too. The Attic are brilliant makers of electronic pop/dance/house music; if you don't [...]

Swedish music news update! Diva extraordinaire (in the best possible way) Lena Philipsson releases her duet with Orup , "Nu när du gått," digitally September 22. Oswalds Popcorn has the review (lukewarm at best) and the single cover. Sigh. Why can't you just give us another amazing solo album, Lena? The album of duets, called Dubbel , comes out November 12. Speaking of songs released digitally on September 22, Sebastian (Karlsson) releases his new single, "My Getaway," then, [...]
