Having hit a half century of issues, AU magazine started a poll to find out the best songs to come out of Northern Ireland since the magazine's inception five years ago. The top 20 can be seen after the jump. How does it stack up NI music fans? I've only heard most on the list by name so I'm thinking of the top 50 as an enabler to get over my ignorance of NI bands. Of course, My favourite right now would be Cashier no.9 . The 50th issue magazine has a metallic cover, [...]

I am honestly in awe of the amount of truly inspirational shows I've been to this year. Thankfully, I can now add The Dodos to this list. In preparation for the show, I've been listening to Visiter and Beware Of The Maniacs quite extensively over the past week. I've been enjoying those releases so immensely that even though my friend had to back out on attending, and I was still sporting a bit of a Nuit Blanche non-alcoholic hangover of sorts, I still had to make room in my schedule to attend. The show [...]

I guess we can thank the fine folks at Pitchfork for this column. I was bored over the weekend and they have the video up for "rr vs. d" for one-man band Au . I had been reading about their latest album, Verbs , a whole bunch so I thought I'll give it a try. So I put the video on, but don't really pay attention to it so [...]

Prior to last night's tremendous performance from The Dodos , Jen & I were treated to a rousing set by Portland's keyboard & drum duo, Au. Both on paper and live, it's rather effortless to describe the band's sound & energy as a surreal hybrid of Animal Collective & Pattern Is Movement. At times otherworldly, at times dance inducing & at times simply compelling, Au proved themselves as, not only perfect tour partners for The Dodos, but also as a rapidly ascending force to be reckoned with. Visit Au on MySpace. Photos below. [...]

Ok, to start off, I have two corrections to make. First, in the post " Atlanta Album Preview: Nomen Novum " I had listed what I believed to be a possible tracklisting to Nomen Novum 's upcoming debut album, November , but I in fact gave you the possible tracklist Nomen Novum 's second album comprised of songs they are performing live already. The tracklist for November looks like this: intro / new coke permanent makeup I collect things/pow-pow little witches don't look up my face her body [...]

Last night was something like my 40th set of music in under a week, and it came on the heels of my second night with My Bloody Valentine (Roseland was amazing ). But still it was never in danger of being overlooked: Wednesday was my first evening with Weezer, and Weezer's first with Madison Square Garden (Rivers called it "a dream"). For both of us, though, it was some years too late. That's not for any reasons of performance stamina or proficiency on the band's part: when the material is right, Weezer's infectious, vulnerable pop is powerful as ever. [...]

Tracks, heard here and there, in my beloved Chicago. If there's a city in the USofA where you can listen to some good music, I guess it's here. Not to mention the music you'll find in the record shops. So it's been a while since I have participated in the whole blogosphere thing, so I figured the best way to get reacquainted is to give you guys out there a taste of a few things flowing through my personal rotation right now. First up, we have Au . These guys have an interesting sound reminiscent of the carnivalesque Elephant Six stuff coming out of Athens for the last decade. The band is the work of multi-instrumentalist Luke Wyland. Begun back in 2005 [...]

Grab-bag Thursday is always my favorite day, and a few of these songs have me grinning from ear to ear, especially the cover of one of my favorite songs All My Friends . I'm even more excited that I get to share them with you. Enjoy! A. The Main Drag - All My Friends (LCD Soundsystem Cover) ( Alt: YSI ) There are few songs that hit me like a load of bricks, and even fewer songs that can stop me completely. I could be at work, making breakfast or breathing , [...]
In an effort to shine a light on the unknown artists and songs that pass through the mailbox of a music blogger, this semi-regular series will pick the artists most deserving of attention from nialler9 readers. Au - 'Are Animals' You may have heard of Au , an experimental pop band from Portland. This song sounds a little like Animal Collective I'll admit, but do AC have a 20-strong vocal chorus? No? Well Au do, I shit you not. This is from their album [...]

With the response of their recently announced sophomore effort, Visiter , still earning a tremendous amount of acclaim , The Dodos have announced a new round of North American tour dates. In between some stops in Europe , the San Francisco based outfit will hit up a number of U.S. locations, including stops at several fall music festivals. "Touring constantly can definitely put some weird constraints on trying to become seriously involved with anyone," [Meric Long] explains. While on tour the Dodos have [...]
A lot of people have told me that I like "weird" music. I'm guessing, they would consider Au one of the bands that fits under that banner. However, I don't consider them weird at all. I find them quite talented and unique, albeit it a little experimental. But I've come to really like music that doesn't sound like everything else that's out there. This definitely doesn't sound like everything else

Dodo duo Meric Long and Logan Kroeber sure do know how to rock out a crowd, and they proved their abilities to a packed Pitchfork Festival just over a week ago in Chi Town! They've been endlessly touring, hitting up all the hot spots, including Cake Shop and the Siren Festival , with Pitchfork [...]
