Black Sabbath have announced a date at Belfast's Odyssey Arena on Thursday, 12th December in support of their new album. 13 will be the first Sabbath album to feature original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne since 19782s Never Say Die! and will be released in June. Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave was behind the drumkit for 13 's recording, joining Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler, but has not been confirmed for the raft of European and British dates the heavy metal pioneers are set to play this November and [...]
So there's a headline I never imagined I'd ever type.
This week sees the release of Amok , the debut album by Thom Yorke's much-heralded Atoms for Peace project. The album sets Yorke with an unlikely cast of collaborators: Flea, long-time producer Nigel Godrich, REM drummer Joey Waronker, and a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist by the name of Mauro Refosco. They're a supergroup, basically, no matter how much Yorke decries the term. And like many supergroups, they prove less than the sum of their parts — getting the idea of putting a bunch of successful musicians together to work is more difficult than it seems. For proof, check out this selection [...]
Black Sabbath 13 Vertigo ETA June 2013 What They're Saying After playing the whole we're-not-getting-back-togethe r-AHA-we-ARE-getting-back-toge ther back-and-forth right up until they announced their reformation , Black Sabbath have been equally reticent about letting details slip about the new album they've been promising will be out sometime in 2013. Chris Cornell launched a solo career before delivering three records with Audioslave and an ill-conceived collaboration with producer Timbaland . I can't quite put my finger on Cold Hiker, and that's not usually something I have a problem with when it comes to alt rock. There's so much more here than the typical sound usually associated with the junk I used to listen to when I was 14. Of course there's still some of the basic staples that label Cold Hiker's single Phosphenes as alternative rock. Haunting hints of Thom Yorke are meshed with moments that remind me of Audioslave. Their sound is moody, aggressive at points, and entirely delicate and intricate at others. What I love about Phosphenes, is [...]
When I think about professional sports and which player and/or position seems to be the most intimidating, I always conclude that hands down, ice hockey goalies are the most intimidating players. They literally look like monsters with their giant pads and fiercely decorated masks. Fear plays a big role in maximizing their game. Getting into the ...

But over the years, Cornell has incorporated different styles in his own solo work -- such as pop and hip-hop elements -- while still maintaining his distinctive gritty and stirring vocals. [...]
Yesterday word got out that Tom Morello was in New York to perform for the Occupy Wall Street protestors, and now, of course, there is video of that event, which you can check out below. There isn't really all that much I can say about this, so I'll just echo Vince's words from yesterday: "God [...]

Today, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave visited the Occupy Wall Street protest movement that has been going on in Downtown NTC for the past four weeks.
It will probably not surprise you to learn that I'm a big fan of politically-themed talk shows that are hosted by sarcastic pricks and feature panels of people arguing and often insulting one another. And one of my favorite such shows is HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, which I watch religiously. And I found [...]
Though I tried, and tried harder by giving it a few spins, James Morrison 's comeback track, "I Won't Let You Go" simply failed to convince me. No wonder then, that the Mark Taylor assisted uptempo "Slave To The Music" has been picked as the lead single in France, to launch the singer's third offering, The Awakening . This one, instead, is an instant smash. Perfectly mixing Rock and Soul influences with some stunning vocals reminiscent of Terrence Trent D'Arby , its infectious chorus caught me hooked [...]
On Thursday I stopped by City Winery to see Tom Morello performing as The Nightwatchman. I was only familiar with a handful of songs prior to the show and I had mixed feelings about what I had heard. I didn't know what to expect. We were given seats a couple of feet away from the stage. I scanned the room and saw an surprising amount of middle aged dudes in collar shirts. It looked like a
I'm going to put about as much effort into this introduction as I put into trying to be sensitive to Hinder's feelings. We begin today's cinemetal round-up with "Irresistible Force," the first new video from Jane's Addiction since whenever the last time they released a video was. The clip has some stuff going for it [...]
If memory serves, the Spawn movie which came out in 1997 was pretty terrible, but we did get one great thing out of it: the soundtrack. It was pretty much like the Judgment Night soundtrack, only instead of combining metal bands with rap acts, it teamed up metal bands with electronica acts. And every song [...]

So when the lifelong union man heard of right-wing Wisconsin governor Scott Walker's plan to strip his state's [...]
