The band formerly known as Aushua took on the new identity of Pacific Hurt. I'm glad they did because now I know how to pronounce their name. You see, I struggle with pronunciations because of Hooked on Phonics. I could continue on with this tangent but nevermind. I originally heard of Aushua with the release [...]

[A bit of everything here: benefit shows, bands with new names and World Cup soccer:] The Airborne Toxic Event returns to the site of their very first show, the Echo, on May 25 for a charity gig for the Neda Project — an Amnesty International-related effort named for Neda Agha-Soltan , the Iranian woman who was gunned down last June during peaceful protests over the election of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadenijad. The L.A. quintet has also recorded a song, "Neda," [...]

[Once around the residencies as I try to decide how I feel about the new Angels & Airwaves album, "LOVE," which I downloaded free last night [ background ] ...] Princeton , fresh off a Thursday show opening for Editors, return to the cozier confines of Spaceland, supported by Le Switch , among others. ... Aushua and We Barbarians make for great openers at Useless Keys ' residency at the Echo. ... Gamble House plays [...]
Our friends over at INDIE NATION TV delivered this cool video from last week's RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES party @ 3 Clubs, featuring interviews and live shots from AUSHUA and CHASING KINGS . alt=rss
Every first Thursday of the month Future Sounds throws The Rumble at the 3 Clubs in Hollywood. The Rumble is a music showcase that gives the best up-and-coming Indie musicians a chance to shine. This month The Rumble featured Southern California acts Chasing Kings and Aushua . The party is free and runs all month in other cities throughout the country like Las Vegas and Brooklyn. Check out Future Sounds to find the Rumble nearest you.

Even when he's not backed by his band Thrice, O.C.'s Dustin Kensrue [pictured] has some pretty formidable songwriting chops, as he displayed on his solo album "Please Come Home," released two years ago this month. Kensrue gets top billing on a tour called "Where's the Band?" — which features the frontmen of four rock bands going it by themselves. Kensrue, along with Matt Pryor of the Get Up Kids, Chris Conley of Saves the Day and Anthony Raneri of Bayside, hits the Troubadour tonight. ... The Rumble LA rumbles back [...]

It's here - THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES burns tonight at 3 Clubs with 3 bands we love on a silver platter for FREE. AUSHUA , CHASING KINGS & CAT PARTY with DJ's S.i.S . will handle all the entertaining. Watch the National Championship game at the bar before the party kicks off with John and the Longhorn fans. For once, don't be sooooo LA tonight and [...]

Happy New Year! If you are like us, you've had your fill of down time, Mom's pies, bad television, and it's time to shake off the holidays and get back on the street and see some live music. This Thursday, THE RUMBLE: LOS ANGELES returns to 3 Clubs with a line up that will force you back into the game. AUSHUA , a local band we fell for back when we had " Sister Saves " grace [...]

[Sorry this is a little late today — tech problems in Buzz Bands land ...] Brooklyn three-piece the Antlers , riding a wave of critical love from Pitchfork (among others) for their album "Hospice," are about to embark on a big tour supporting Minus the Bear (including a Tuesday date at the Glass House in Pomona). First, though, they headline the Bootleg Theater tonight — advance tickets are sold out, but there will be a few available at the door starting at 8 p.m. The lovely [...]

Aushua - Hiding Place Schysst atmosfärisk indierock från Kalifornien. Låten är från EP:n Limbo .

Oh my, the lovely Natasha Khan of BAT FOR LASHES headlines the Music Box @ Fonda this evening (The excellent OTHER LIVES supports). That haunting " Daniel " gets in your head and stays like an old college buddy on your couch. If you can't go the big ticket item at The Fonda, it's Free residency night at Spaceland and The Echo with a duel between two bands we love: LOCAL NATIVES [...]

I've been to a lot of residency Mondays at Spaceland over the years, and tonight's lineup, front to back, rivals any I've seen. Residents Local Natives could probably pack the place themselves, but they have two other great SoCal bands on board — the Henry Clay People and Aushua . Not to mention: Fun. , who are not to be missed. Fun (they use a period after their name) is the new project of Nate Ruess of the Format (whom I really liked back in 2006 ), Anathallo's Andrew Dost and Steel Train's [...]

[Another installment in my new local music series ...] Probably the most exciting thing about Aushua's new "Limbo" EP is knowing that it's just the tip of the iceberg. The Santa Ana-based foursome has been working on a full-length album with producer Greg Doyle — a project that will be put on hold the next two months while Nathan Gammill and the brothers Newyear (Phil, Eric and Lee) mount a 35-date, cross-country tour. Expanding on the sound and themes of its first two EPs — which yielded singles [...]

Aushua follow-up their stellar No Harm Done EP with a brand new collection of six tracks beaming with atmosphere and expansive instrumentation. "Tuck (How it Feels Away)" is one of the many bright moments and feels like a band exploring more space and melody (which I think they've always been consistent at). In past reviews and posts I would describe the Orange County quartet to bands like Doves, The Stills and locals Foreign Born. After a few listens to the the new Limbo [...]

[Have a safe holiday weekend. And raise a glass for birthday boy Robbie Robertson on Sunday.] Today: 'Tis the season ... for music outdoors. Among the many offerings around SoCal is a free concert series at Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena , where French songstress Emilie Simon [pictured] performs at 8 tonight. She's also at the Bootleg Theater on Sunday. ... There's Night 2 of the Hollywood Bowl July 4th Fireworks Spectacular too, with John Fogerty and the L.A. Phil. ... Also: [...]

Pete Yorn [pictured] has a new album, "Back and Forth," recorded in Omaha, Neb., with Bright Eyes producer Mike Mogis, and a new band behind him. He's celebrating with a show at the Roxy that's a warm-up for his big summer tour (which ends Aug. 27-28 at the Music Box @ Fonda). ... It's the Spinnerette coming-out party, L.A. edition, as the Brody Dalle-fronted back plays to a sold-out Troubadour. ... Emmylou Harris is joined by Patty Griffin , Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller at the Greek Theatre. ... Heavy [...]

[Happy 40th to Flaming Lips drummer Steven Drozd. Now keep the beat while I run through tonight's exhausting list of shows:] Give the Church credit — most bands who are still going concerns at the end of their third decade are just playing greatest-hits sets. The Australian quartet, touring behind a new album, "Untitled #23," that is almost Floydian in its shimmer, hits the Roxy tonight along with Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody . ... Also visiting from Down Under: Children Collide join [...]

[Birthday cheers go out Sunday to Donovan, and I hope this abbreviated rundown isn't too late to inform your weekend plans:] Tonight: Grand Duchy , the musical collaboration between Black Francis and his wife Violet Clark, hits the Detroit Bar tonight behind last month's release of its debut "Petit Fours," a collection of endearingly off-kilter synth-pop. ... Huge benefit at Club Nokia tonight — the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Anthony Kiedis will be feted for his charity work, with the proceeds going to the [...]
