Bloomington, IN based purveyor of country/folk/punk Austin Lucas is embarking on a US tour this month, comprising primarily of house shows, followed by a European tour beginning at the end of February. Austin released A New Home in the Old World in 2011.

I guess I lose what little blogger cred that I have if I don't post an end-of-the-year "Best Of" list before 2012. I'm getting it in just under the wire. These are my favorite albums on this day, the 31st of December, in the year of our lord 2011, and it is subject to change whenever I feel like it. Seriously, it's been a great year for music, and it was really difficult for me to make this list. Feel free to heap praise on me or call me a pretentious overbearing wretch. [...]

First I want to say that this was one of the hardest top lists I have ever done. Some of these don't deserve to be ranked any lower than the ones above them. While I didn't write as prolifically this year as I did others what I wrote about I really and truly loved. And then the other folks 'round these parts wrote about good stuff too. But the end of the year breeds top lists so I have been struggling for the past couple of weeks to actually rank these albums. I honestly will be doing some of these [...]

Per Austin Lucas: This song was written as a sort of love song to my fans. I know how silly it might seem to some folks, but after the experience that I had this summer when everyone pitched in to help get my van fixed it really put my whole world into perspective and helped me come to a realization about how beautiful my life is. Truly, my life is amazing and it's you, the people who listen to my music, give me places to sleep, cook me surprise meals, book shows and just plain give [...]

I clicked through to this video on Facebook without even realizing that our buddy Josh Massie shot it, which makes me love it even more. The formidable Austin Lucas performs "Thunder Rail" (from this year's A New Home In the Old Country which is a really good album) with Glossary rocking it as a backing band live in Austin, Texas.

I've been going to see Lucero for years. I've been to rowdy shows, calm shows, crowded shows, empty shows, and sloppy shows (my favorites, to be honest). I've been to shows where the openers were people I'd never heard of, and I've been to others with openers the likes of Amy LaVere, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin' Malcolm, Cory Branan, Drag the River, and Frank Turner, just to name a few. I've been to shows I can't remember, and I've been to shows I'll never forget. With Austin Lucas and Glossary [...]

Give Me My XXX is a grassroots movement intended to give "outer-edge" artists a common umbrella to call home as well as a place for fans of a band to try and find other "like sounded" bands. They've been releasing some compilations under the "Southern Independent" moniker and offering them up for free download over on givememyxxx.com . Last week, they released Vol. 3 which features a track from the upcoming Scott H. Biram album, Bad Ingredients , as well as a track from a band we champion the shit out of around here, [...]

as i laid on the couch last night, cause thats where i have been relegated to the past month or so, but thats another story - nothing bad, i was listening to a record that shall remain anonymous. even though its still 85+ degrees here in new orleans, its almost the october, and the end of the year. so i gots to thinkin, at this point what are my top ten records of the year? so i started rattling off records, in my head of course, and came to the conclusion that this year, 2011, has been the best year [...]

Over the weekend I was asked what I was gonna write about when I covered the Little Rock weekend on 9B. I told him I had pretty much stopped covering live events cause they'd already happened and there was no going back. That said, the above picture does a fantastic job summing up the weekend. However, I'll ask you, the 9B readership....should I post some form of a recap or not? On a more pressing note: Austin Lucas has been unable to get out of Little Rock due to van issues. This is the type [...]

photo by joshua black wilkins off the top of my head thinking about younger artists, that is younger than myself, im looking at a more than a few to help carry me over into the new decade. that list would include, but in no way limited to, jason isbell, timothy showalter of strand of oaks, austin lucas, jill andrews, john gleason of roadside graves, a.a. bondy, bj barham of american aquarium, and justin townes earle. speaking on the man last on the list, if you have never seen him live you are seriously doing yourself a disservice cause [...]

Last Friday I braved urban flood advisories, torrential rains, high winds and one big ass bridge to join Von for an episode of his podcast, Americana Rock Mix and drink all of his Maduro Brown Ale . The episode is a retrospective of the Suburban Home Records catalog with lots of rambling between me and Von injected between songs. The entire thing clocks in at nearly 2 hours and can be heard here . During the episode you'll hear multiple songs from; I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch [...]

It's time for a new ninebullets podcast. Immediately you might notice that I've stopped naming these by the month they were released and going with the more common numbering of the episodes. I am doing this cause I've not been so swell at getting these out monthly so I thought going to the numbering system would work better. This will also enable me to do more than one in a month should the opportunity to do that arise. With that said, let's talk about the new show. Following in the footsteps of the radio show 2 weeks ago [...]

there are some records that just seem to flow effortlessly from song to song, nothing seems forced or out of place. sadly, those records are few and far between. even with that said, there have been a few this year that fit that description as 2011 has been a pretty decent year. the great records are great, other records, well their just there. one record, me thinks, that fits that mold is austin lucas' a new home in the old world . ive had it for quite a while now, but its only been the last week [...]

Damnit. This podcast was supposed to be posted the last weekend of April but when I made the podcast apparently my microphone was messing up, so I had to go back and rerecord all the parts where I was talking. As a result, it's a little late but the music in this episode makes it worth the wait. This month's podcast opens with what is, in my opinion, song of the year so far, "Highway 42" by Grayson Capps , and just keeps crushing from there on out. It features Matt Woods , The Only [...]
