(Joel's note: I'll be posting these in sections as I get them, which is just now, so we're starting at the first of the tour and we'll work our way up to the present...) JULY 31st - INDIANAPOLIS Two Cow has been touring for seven years and not once in that time have we ever traveled with a trailer. We've debated it to the point of exhaustion and I personally have railed against it. Up until this point I have won out, maybe because I do most of the driving, or maybe [...]

Next month a good chunk of the Suburban Home roster is gonna convene upon Denver for a weekend of music, BBQ, garage sales and plenty of drinking. Having mostly recovered from my revelry up in Minneapolis and still being pretty bitter about Two Cow Garage not coming to the Tampa Bay area, I'm doing what any other stupid fuck with no money and less sense does: I'm quoting Tim Barry, saying "fuck tomorrow and fuck all the yesterday's" and flying to Denver. Yup, good ol' Autopsy IV is gonna exchange flat Florida's heat for Denver's elevation [...]

There's a great review of Austin Lucas' latest album over at Americana UK if this whet's your appetite then Suburban Home have the title track " Somebody Loves You " along with some more Mp3s from the label's artists, listen / download here , 10/10 make your own mind up the full album streams available here

How the shit have I not written about the new Austin Lucas record Somebody Loves You ? I mean, really, how has this not happened? It is easily one of my favorite releases of 2009 so far. I mean, Austin's sweet voice and his slowly wandering traditional county-folk arrangements are the perfect accompaniment for wasting away an evening with a bottle of whatever gets it done. Most often sorrowful (in the way that all good country music is), Austin Lucas' songs are straight from the heart. His wonderful [...]

Looks like a preview of summer is heading our way, with highs getting close to 90 in some places. The unexpected heat is not going to keep the weekend show line-up from happening. It's another full weekend, so I'm going to have to split it up into two posts. This one will cover Friday and those that also hit other places after Friday. Kings of Leon from band's myspace Quite a few big name acts start things Friday and [...]

Avail frontman Tim Barry is bringing his brand of alt-country to Skull Alley tomorrow night with Austin Lucas , Josh Small and The Olympia Three . Given the punk rock connections, I would imagine the crowd will be hopping. It'll be a good time. Tim Barry - Texas Cops Tim Barry - Dog Bumped

And now, the conclusion of our extensive recap of last week's Harvest of Hope . If you missed day one, you can find it here . And don't forget to check back in the upcoming weeks for interviews with The Gaslight Anthem, None More Black, The Casting Out and Against Me! DAY 2 Just to get it out of the way from the very beginning, I would like to hereby declare all Day Twos of future Harvest of Hope Fests as [...]

The inaugural Harvest of Hope Festival took place this past weekend on St. John's Fairgrounds, just outside of St. Augustine, Florida (the oldest city in the country) and, I am happy to report, it was a resounding success. Not only was the music phenomenal, there seemed to be very few snags (rare for a new festival) and the organizers seemed absolutely thrilled. There was a special vibe in the air all weekend long, due to many of the artists' first-hand involvement in the event. This did not feel like a corporate event, where a large company was paying [...]

Frontman for punkers Avail, Tim Barry , is making his way to Austin this Tuesday night. He'll be doing his folkier side of things, but that won't make it any less punk rock, as those who caught his set at Fun Fun Fun Fest can attest. His charm will win you over in a minute, and his songs will win you over the next. Also on the bill is Austin Lucas , who made waves earlier this year with his joint venture with Chuck Ragan. The show is at [...]
This is a new thing I am trying out. Since I am now contributing to the music side of Creative Loafing's website I am trying to post a rundown of what's going on in Americana music and it's related blogs over there every Friday and since I am posting it there...well, why not post it here. So, without further ado: Has anyone else stopped to think about how awesome February 17 is gonna be? That day will see new releases from: Jason Isbell , The Fox Hunt , Deep Dark Woods , [...]

Everyone else is doing it so why shouldn't I? That's right, listmania 2008 is finally here and what I've got to present to you here is the first half of my favorite albums of the year. Love 'em or hate 'em, these are the albums that made the cut. I decided to stick with a list of 50 this year mainly because that's what I've done in the past and also because 2008 was a really great year for new music and narrowing down the list to fewer than this just seemed unfair. [...]

In the interest of once again shamelessly promoting one of my favourite new artists of the last several years, this week's vinyl spotlight is shining heavily on Austin Lucas. I've featured Mr. Lucas several times before since first hearing his latest LP, Putting The Hammer Down . He's primarily an incredible vocalist, a great guitarist, and has really tapped into a unique "roots" sound. Up to this point that's had a great deal to do with his father Bob, a life-long country musician and gifted arranger and instrumentalist. On his latest 103 vinyl-only release, [...]

Singer-songwriter Austin Lucas has signed on with Surburban Home Records . You can expect a new album from the man in 2009. He recently worked with Chuck Ragan on the Bristle Ridge album. Read the press release after the jump. Suburban Home records could not be more excited about signing Austin Lucas. I had first heard of him when I picked up a split 73 with him and Chuck Ragan. The split inspired me to pick up his latest album, "Putting the [...]
I don't know what's gotten into me lately. For some reason I've been listening to (and really enjoying) a lot of country, bluegrass, and other music that could be categorized as "high and lonesome." You know, Flatt & Scruggs, Old Crow Medicine Show, Dock Boggs, Hank Williams (SR. and III ), and more. It should then probably be no surprise that I've also been enjoying the latest from Austin Lucas . Lucas is another in the long list of of punk-gone-folk artists like Chuck Ragan, Tim Barry, Rocky Votolato, etc... and [...]
I've been on vacation for a few weeks and it was really great to get back to the show. Really great. I had a lot of fun. At one point I even felt myself inspired by the Black Kids song and the possible metaphor for knockin' boots; Jennifer and I had a conversation about sexy metaphors during the drive through B.C., inspired by the full boat of 50's style euphamisms laced through the songs on the Sun Sessions album. Turns out Jenny was unfamiliar with the puritanical ethos of Shakespearean times and the expression, "Making the [...]
