There are so many great gigs coming up in Toronto in the next few months that every Sunday night I am going to highlight what I think you should go to. I can't go to all of these, and some are on the same night, so if anyone wants to guest post, please say the word (rockstaraimz at gmail dot com). NxNE is Technically from June 14-20, but most of the gigs start on Thurs, June 16. I am still not sure exactly which shows I am hitting. More on that [...]

With Austin Lucas's Collection coming out this week it's time for an Intro. For your listening pleasure 9B presents: Put The Needle Down (an Intro to Austin Lucas) . For someone who's only been around for a little while Austin has quite a few records under his belt. For the intro I think I covered everything released under his name except the European only vinyl At War With Freak Folk which I do not have. However, all but two of the tracks were released on Somebody Loves You [...]

The second annual Harvest of Hope Music Festival will return to St. Augustine, FL this March 12-14, and one thing is becoming quite clear: music's most underrated music festival is quickly becoming one of music's most stellar music festivals. This year’s lineup once again again showcases a diverse roster of national and international acts, including alt-rock legend Billy Bragg, acclaimed folk-rock outfit The Mountain Goats, psychedelic rockers Dr. Dog, indie sensations Rogue Wave, UK punk band Leatherface, and the hardcore group Senses Fail. And that's just getting started. Man Man, Delta Spirit, Anti-Flag, The [...]
If it's December at You Ain't No Picasso, then it's time for Mixmas! Every year I like to turn YANP over to some of my favorite bands to showcase some of their favorite songs through a themed mix. They pick a theme, five songs that fit the theme and then share a little about why [...]

Austin Lucas , an Americana singer from Bloomington, Indiana, grew up in a punk/hardcore environment and some of the anger of those genres shines through on his country-tinged Somebody Loves You album. With a voice that brings back memories of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, Lucas is very much in command of his songs. Tasty fiddle and steel guitar are prominent in the mix, but it's his acoustic guitar that drives the songs forward - particularly in the uptempo Wash My Sins Away and the pensive Precious Little Heart . Recommended if you [...]
Last week we received a package from Suburban Home Records. This excited MM very much as it was the first we'd received from them, and it has been one of our favourite record labels for a while. SHR is home to artists like Two Cow Garage, Drag The River, Ghost Buffalo and many others. In the package was a CD titled Somebody Loves You by Austin Lucas - his fourth album, but first for SHR.

Date Wednesday, November 11th Location Mohawk Doors 800p Tickets $12 @ the door Whilst most of us are still recovering from the FFF Fest, music must go on here in town. When I was growing up I spent my summers on my grandparent's land in Arkansas. To this day it's the only set of directions I know how to give that includes "...after the paved road ends keep going 5 miles...". I have mixed memories of my time there to be honest. I guess it's one part of my childhood that refused to be romanticized. Some of the memories are amazing: pig roasts, ice cream socials, hanging out on the Tinsley's farm down the road, hiding cigarettes in the chapel at the cemetery, drinking from a spring coming straight out the [...]
(Joel's note: I'll be posting these in sections as I get them, which is just now, so we're starting at the first of the tour and we'll work our way up to the present...) JULY 31st - INDIANAPOLIS Two Cow has been touring for seven years and not once in that time have we ever traveled with a trailer. We’ve debated it to the point of exhaustion and I personally have railed against it. Up until this point I have won out, maybe because I do most of the driving, or maybe [...]

Next month a good chunk of the Suburban Home roster is gonna convene upon Denver for a weekend of music, BBQ, garage sales and plenty of drinking. Having mostly recovered from my revelry up in Minneapolis and still being pretty bitter about Two Cow Garage not coming to the Tampa Bay area, I'm doing what any other stupid fuck with no money and less sense does: I'm quoting Tim Barry, saying "fuck tomorrow and fuck all the yesterday's" and flying to Denver. Yup, good ol' Autopsy IV is gonna exchange flat Florida's heat for Denver's elevation [...]

There's a great review of Austin Lucas' latest album over at Americana UK if this whet's your appetite then Suburban Home have the title track " Somebody Loves You " along with some more Mp3s from the label's artists, listen / download here , 10/10 make your own mind up the full album streams available here

How the shit have I not written about the new Austin Lucas record Somebody Loves You ? I mean, really, how has this not happened? It is easily one of my favorite releases of 2009 so far. I mean, Austin's sweet voice and his slowly wandering traditional county-folk arrangements are the perfect accompaniment for wasting away an evening with a bottle of whatever gets it done. Most often sorrowful (in the way that all good country music is), Austin Lucas' songs are straight from the heart. His wonderful [...]
