My Thursday (and hopefully yours) just got a whole lot better. Abandoning my previous plans to write about some lackluster album today, I'm instead more than pleased to bring you a brand new song from Autolux. Some of you may have let you a collective "Huh?" in reaction to that, not even aware there was a band called Autolux. They're a band from L.A. that has a dark and distinctive shoegaze sound that takes cues from uber-cool bands like My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth in their heydays. And Autolux is uber-cool as well. Their official debut album, 2004's "Future [...]

Good things come to those who wait. That's what it seems like Los Angeles noise pop trio, Autolux , have been teaching their loyal fans (myself included) for the last two years. A posting on the band's MySpace page in January 2007 announced a follow-up to 2004's excellent Future Perfect , which was slated for a late 2007 summer release. The summer came and went without any new material or news from the band. One fan wrote recently on the trio's MySpace page: Dear Autolux, Can I [...]
You all may very well know how dope c4 is for giving The Dodos some lovin' sometime ago, heck sometime before even Pitchfork gave the new record any recognition, but what most people don't know is that me and Meric Long go way back... ...way back to about 6 years ago when we ran wild across [...]
If you've managed to live this long without hearing any of Charlie Manson's music, I feel really, really bad for you. The man might be a psychopath to boot, but he's a musical genius with a voice like an angel. I'm not kidding. I'd let him sing me to sleep any day. In fact, before [...]
Life is a loop. -Notwist, "pick up the phone" Just when I thought I'd never hear anything from the Notwist again and had began coping with the idea that they were one of those bands that I used to be really into way back when, they go and surprise me with a new album and not only [...]
Cody gets busy. So what better way to serve my inaugural post than with a certified banger? Brighton, London's Midfield General, alter-ego of Damian Harris, just blessed the dance floor with his new single "Disco Sirens" off the forthcoming album General Disarray. I can't even begin to describe how major this track's gonna' dominate the [...]
When Trent Reznor followed Radiohead's lead and released his latest album online at pay-whatever rates, it nearly topped his past announcement that Autolux would support NIN's fall '05 tour. Some serious respect for Mr. Reznor is due, regardless of how his new album sounds. Autolux's noisy sci-fi debut Future Perfect is billions and billions times [...]

Monday, March 10, 2008 Hey! SXSW is here! As you probably already noticed I'm not really one of those people who either tries to do a preview of every band that's set to play and/or attempts to post the press releases for every event that will happen during the week. But, with that being said I would like to take today and tomorrow to highlight 10 artists that I'm really excited to see this year. Enjoy. : The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name : [...]

"Escape From LA" Thursday March 13th at Antone's and The Lucky Lounge Last year Rock Insider sponsored a few big parties at SXSW - including 2 that wound up being simultaneous (geez louise!). Instead of running around this year like a chicken with it's head cut off this year some friends and I formed the Los Angeles Independent Media Group - a group of Los Angeles focused blogs, labels, and zines who support the DIY lifestyle. We've teamed up with Spaceland Productions [...]

Southern California is going to experience rain for the first time in 5 months this weekend as a winter storm moves inland off the coast. Temperatures are going to drop considerably and heavy showers are expected on Friday. [ Read More At NBC4] The second even a drop of water hits SoCal freeways L.A. motorists turn into raving idiots. I can't wait for SUVs with 26" gold plated spinners to blaze past me at 75 MPH tomorrow during my commute. Seriously though, don't be moron. If [...]

A few years ago, Sunset Junction was all leather-clad gay guys (some resembling South Park 's Mr. Slave) bumping shoulders with the area's primarily Hispanic residents. It was sort of like going to a Morrissey concert. But things are different now: the first wave of gentrification came and went, transforming these formerly dicey gang-ridden blocks into a bohemian enclave, flooded with coffee shops, designer boutiques and the bearded, bespectacled hipstacrites who love them. Today, [...]

"Dream A Little Dream" - Laura Fygi [ Buy ] One of the most precious memories I try to keep from dying, is when my sister and I spent the afternoon in my parent's room listening to this on repeat. My father had so many CDs and cassette tapes. I worshiped his music collection. My parents were young when they first had my sister so growing up with my parents meant growing up with my father's taste in music. He listened to everything from his favorite, Larry Coryell to Jimi Hendrix to Nat King Cole to Bob Marley to [...]

I don't feel like I have posted a lot of Mp3's lately. So I thought I would share some Mp3 love amongst the Rocksellout community. A lot of these bands are from my area and I felt should be introduced to a whole new crowd. So who is up for a mix tape? I know I always am! 1. The Features - Walk You Home The Features have been around Murfreesboro, TN since the early 90's. This is truly a band that has never sold out and have always stayed true to their [...]

There seems to be a a slight similarity between today's song and today's video. First, both are cover versions of great songs which is highly unusual, because I am not a big fan of covers unless the new version is better than the original (Jimi Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower") or unless the new version just does something entirely different (Ministry covering "Lay Lady Lay"). That's interesting how the songs I use as examples were both originally Bob Dylan songs. The other similarity between the two videos is France. Nouvelle Vague is French, and the video by the [...]
Tomorrow night (Friday) is a jam-packed night for Los Angeles. First off is the last installment of First Fridays at the Natural History Museum (for this year, at least). For those of you who don't know what that is, First Fridays is a great monthly event that the Natural History Museum here in LA has where the museum stays open until 10 PM and features live music, scientific discussion and a special curatorial tour. They even have a bar and food (for sale)! The best part is, the bands play in the North American Mammals room, [...]
