Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg ( Avi Buffalo ) performing an acoustic rendition of "How Come" for 20JEANS sessions in Elysian Park in Los Angeles.
Our trip to this year's San Francisco's Sketchfest Comedy Festival has elicited even more comedic gold. Not only did we get John Glaser to interview Bob Mould , but we also wrangled comedy group Stella to sit down with John Vanderslice , prolific alternative musician and founder of local Tiny Telephone studio. The resulting - um, let's call it a therapy session, finds Vanderslice seeking advice from the comedy trio of Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, and David Wain. Over the course of seven minutes, the unlicensed professionals and law school wannabes deliver pearls [...]

Check out Pageants, new project from former Avi Buffalo member Rebecca Coleman. Former Avi Buffalo member Rebecca Coleman formed the new project Pageants after leaving Buffalo in 2010. Pageants is the new musical trio of former Avi Buffalo member and founder Rebecca Coleman with Devin O'Brien and Dylan Wood. The project began in modest after Coleman left the band in the summer of 2010, initially starting of as a duo only to expand to the current three-person lineup. The band has been hard at work in their Long Beach home finishing up their debut album to see the light of day later this year. To get the year started, the band will be releasing Musings of [...]

Long Beach duo Pageants are destined for something bigger and it's only a matter of time before they reach that goal.

Smart! Desværre er sangen ikke en single fra et nyt album, men en donation til en kompilation til fordel for et lukningstruet studie. [...]
It doesn't take too much to get me hooked on indie pop; I like casual melodies and simple hooks. When I got this new track from The Tins , I definitely got that anxious indie pop feeling...somewhere between The Shins and Avi Buffalo . It's perfect tunes to give you that longing feeling as you look out your window onto a bright sunny day. This is from their Life's a Gas album, and it's really got me in the mood to get outside and play. There's [...]
I didn't post at all on FensePost last week. That's crazy. I had been on a roll, pumping out posts on a daily basis, then I hit a wall and needed an immediate break. But my breaks are typically filled with, well, something else. They're aren't true breaks , in the informal-synonym-for-vacation sense of the word. That's right, it was pledge week at KSVR and KSVU. Being pledge week, I came in Wednesday night and sat in on Jackson Stewart's Blue Boulevard and we [...]

I haven't had much time of late to write. The house project of repainting walls, painting trim, pulling up carpets, and laying down bamboo has absolutely dominated my time. That and working on my BMW, which in the past few weeks has received a full tune-up (with exception of replacing points and cleaning the carb). I'm hoping that come mid-week, I'll be back in my normal post routine. As time has been limited, I thought "Desert Island Picks" would be a good topic for the week. Unfortunately, I left off [...]
And then there was Saturday: ► Two bands with highly anticipated albums on the way — Magic Wands (pictured) and Gliss — team up with Sabrosa Purr and Harper Blynn at the benefit show for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's SXSW efforts at the Satellite. Magic Wands' "Aloha Moon" is en route April 24, and Gliss has "Langsom Dons" [see the new "Weight of Love" ] coming in the summer. Buzz Bands LA will DJ tonight's proceedings. ► Crocodiles visit the Echoplex, with Bleeding Rainbow and Dunes [...]
Living in LA isn't as glorious as one might think. It's definitely not the worst place someone can call home, but my con list is easily longer than my pro list. With that said, one pro of living in LA is the music scene. It's not the best, but it's definitely in the top 10 of the US. Each and every weekend, there are a handful of shows to choose from and even though I don't even come close to taking advantage of this pro, it doesn't mean the rest of you LA locals cannot and should not. So from [...]
Friday evening was a mad house. Getting into the station wasn't the issue, as I expect it will be in the coming weeks now that winter is upon us; it was the transition. Transitioning from one on-air personality to another is a bit nerve-wracking. The quarters are cramped, the mic is hot, and you have to do your best not to step on their toes as they wrap their show and you begin yours. And when it's time to fly, you have to remember which buttons should be lit and which ones shouldn't. After the [...]
