Awesome Color came by our backyard to play us a little ditty entitled "Mexico," a locale they've yet to visit. What's funny is that our backyard was but one stop on the way to Mexico, where they were set to play some pre-SXSW shows. They were excited. They had never been before. And when we ran into them in Austin, they reported very stoically that the trip was "awesome." They're like longhaired, Zeppelin-loving Zach Condons! Or something.

Can't Stop The Bleeding presented The Spits and Awesome Color today at Beerland. The Spits are a super dirty, noisy-punk band, maybe the closest thing to The Ramones ever to come out of Seattle. Tonight they were wearing the most bad-ass matching denim vests. Detroit's Awesome Color keep it pretty psychedelic and fuzzy, two things that equal awesome in my book. Just a reminder. Sonic Youth is in Dallas tonight (7/15) at House of Blues . Tickets are/were available through Ticketmaster, which means you'll have to sell a kid or a kidney to afford to go. I bought a general admission ticket at $25.50. After Ticketmaster got done fisting me, my total came to $40.21. Fuck you very much. And of course I'll also have to pay $10 to park. I miss Denton. But... it's Sonic Youth! So I guess I'll just have to do less cheese . Awesome Color open.
