When we were children, we would often look at smoke in the air and shout with joy. The cause of this excitement lay in the often unrealised dream of watching a flashy, red fire engine come up the street to put out the fire. It may sound horrible now, but in an age where the idea of 'hurt' was limited to scraped knees and elbows, and death wasn't understood, the idea of an inferno in the vicinity was always welcomed with great enthusiasm.
