Paul Weller ended his gig at the 9:30 Club tonight with a lively cover of "All You Need Is Love" . It was the perfect ending to a damn-near perfect gig, so good it gave me goosebumps. The crowd would just not let him leave. It was eerily reminiscent of the the Travis gig from last year . During the gig I decided that any day you get to hear "The Changingman" live is a good day. I had the pleasure of hearing it twice this week. Add in the fact [...]

If you're among the tens of people who, like me, dearly miss New Jack Swing, occasionally get the chorus from MoKenStef's "He's Mine" stuck in your head for no good reason, or wonder how Next made a song about dancefloor boners the biggest jam of 1998, Mixtape Maestro Presents: '90s R&B Junkie is about to be your new favorite blog. -- Jeff Reguilon
This is the part of the blog where I discuss all things that I find awesome. First off is Noah and the Whale 's new album Peaceful The World Lets Me Down. To regular readers of this blog, Noah and the Whale should be a familiar name, I first learned of the band last year through their single "Five Years Time" and I've began talking them up here ever since. The band has done pretty well for themselves booking a main stage spot at Lollapalooza (which unfortunately they had to cancel) [...]
What is it with our national broadcasting company in Finland? And then I am particularly focusing my energy on Radio Extrem, I'm of that belief that I recognize the power they have over what Fenno-sweds listen to. 90% (a little exaggeration here) of Fenno-sweds have tunnel vision when it comes to music, and this tunnel consist [...]

I've always wondered what it must feel like to be diver doing these routines. While I'll hopefully never find out what it feels like first hand, these images will give you an idea of what it looks like. Without further ado--here is my series of portraits of the 10 meter divers of this 29th Olympiad. Do yourself a favor and click through. I've said it once , but I'll say it again, if you're not reading Newsweek's photoblogger's Olympic coverage, you are missing out.

The Sound Of Arrows is a new Labrador artist based in, of course, Sweden. Their new EP is Danger! And it is pretty killer Dance Pop. This is that title track Remixed by Sweden's remix wizard, Mr Pedro. It's catchy as fuck and i can't seem to get it out of my head. In my mind, nothing will ever top Black Sheep Boy, but with "The Stand-Ins" coming out in a couple of weeks, Okkervil River is doing a good job on challenging that. Of the songs that I have heard, the production has really come through. Strings and other instruments make it much more ochestral than normal. Will Scheff's vocals as always are very melodic and packed with cunning lyrics. Whether it can top Black Sheep Boy or not? You be the judge. A few days ago I started receiving a few hits here and there from a blog called Gotham Acme . I clicked through to check it out and see that it is written by someone named Howard Wolfson. I immediately start wondering if it was that Howard Wolfson . Well, turns out it is (thanks for clearing that up Jason). And he reads the leafblower! Sweetness. Fitting, I guess, as I voted for Hillary in the primary. And for all of you clicking through from [...]

I think we can safely file this post under "Things I never thought I would do" and "Posts I never thought would appear on information leafblower." But yes, it's true, I spent the better part of 13 hours hanging with the Jonas Brothers yesterday as they did all sorts of things in and around Washington D.C. I don't have time to elaborate on the whole thing right now, but you can go and read about it on Washington Post's Post Rock blog and also peep the photos on the [...]

Spent the weekend in the Adirondacks. Climbed New York's fifth-highest mountain. The view from the top of Whiteface Mountain : Lori says the pic looks photoshopped, but we were there... in the clouds. Yeah, that's not mist or anything. We were standing in cloud, looking down on cloud. It was pretty cool. And it was mostly a drive to the top, then a 20-minute hike to the summit.

Tomorrow, look for the world premiere of Steinski's brand-new, never-before-heard mix "What Was Raymond Doing With His Hands?" in this space. Steve Stein (a/k/a Steinski) is 57 years old, white, Jewish and, improbably enough, an integral part of hip-hop's early days. In 1983, Stein, at the time an unknown club DJ and ad writer, paired with Douglas DiFranco (a/k/a Double Dee), to win Tommy Boy Records' "G.L.O.B.E. & Whiz Kid's 'Play That Beat Mr. D.J.' Mix Context!"—a much bigger deal than the heinous, horrendous, horrible [...]
