The new album from AZITA, her fourth through Chicago's Drag City, is called Distrubing The Air and was released late last month. AZITA is celebrating the release with label mate Meg Baird at The Hideout on 10/29. The show also kicks off The Hideout's Halloween Party! MP3: September by AZITA
It's hard to believe that this is the last week of new releases for the summer of 2011, but time just flies right by. So it's good that there are a number of notable albums for the final hurrah of summer. Not surprisingly, there is plenty of buzz around the newest offering from the 'blog [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
After last week's embarrassment of riches, it's only fitting that this week's crop of new releases is a little more sleepy in nature. Two releases in particular, Megafaun's eponymous third release and Richmond Fontaine's alt-country rock opera, bring imagery of a joint dangling off the lips of a bearded hayseed, with a country-ish pastoral setting. Other new releases of note this week come from Jens Lekman, a reunited The Jayhawks, The Jim Jones Revuew, Nurses, Ivy, Boots Electric, Clap Your Hnads Say Yeah, Thrice, Van Dyke Parks, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Evangelista and the Mick Jagger-led super group SuperHeavy. There's also [...]

Philadelphia's most ethereal rock band, Espers aren't taking the US by storm so much as drifting through a few of its major cities, riding on a chilling late Autumn breeze and a cloud of grey and pink smoke. With a total of six shows (three to each coast), this is a tour nearly as wistful as the group's fourth album, III . When that album dropped in October, reviewers couldn't help but point out how much sunnier it seemed compared to the group's previous offerings. Yeah, in the way that The Wicker [...]

DOWNLOAD: Azita - I'm Happy (MP3) Azita Azita 's newish album, How Will You? , is on the high-standard Drag City label, giving it a kind of cachet, of course, but bringing expectations of the left-field, kranky and experimental, which the Iranian-born singer's music/performance art/punk-noise has been in prior incarnations. The new one, however, boasts a full brace of beautifully spare, not-so-ironic, piano-driven paeans to her friends, lovers, time, life and nothing in particular, given the odd [...]
Dan Bejar has always been a source of musical mysticism for me. I adore the New Pornographers, have been through lengthy Destroyer-only phases and have grown to love Swan Lake. His odd, slightly nasally but illuminatingly piercing, voice is completely original to him and coupled with his evocative songwriting, comes close to perfection at times. read more
Azita's newest Drag City release How Will You? finds the singer in a markedly stripped down setting, accompanied by her own piano, bass, guitar, and drums. The context serves her well, highlighting her singular voice and songwriting and laying bare the elements of her music without excessive garnish. It's a timeless equation, the simplicity and warmth of the arrangements inviting the listener in to complete the music's equation with their presence and attention. It wouldn't work if Azita didn't possess the clarity of vision that is apparent in her songs. It would ring hollow [...]

Walking on the edge of becoming a Bonnie "Prince" Billy tribute blog, we were in attendance of Oldham's show at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in Bloomington, Indiana on March 12, 2009. His newest album, Beware , releases on Tuesday, so, as expected, a large chunk of the setlist was from the album. Before going into the show, I've listened to Beware and wasn't blown away (however, I still bought the vinyl). Granted, the bar he sets is well beyond that of your mainstream artist, but when you have Oldham's talent average doesn't fly. Beware feels over [...]

Sorry for the late posting of this week's Graboid, folks. The king of fighting games returned this week as Street Fighter IV was released on consoles, along with pretty much taking up any kind of free time i've had over the past couple of days. Hopefully, all of you can cut me some slack with the lack of posts this week for the time being. Sitting down earlier tonight to compile the goods from this week of album releases seemed rather daunting, as there are a staggering amount of quality [...]

mp3: azita - i'm happy ... [buy how will you?] mp3: azita - don't let it bring you down azita has got a new album coming out tomorrow, titled how will you?... i have not yet heard the record, but "i'm happy" suggests good things to come. at least as noteworthy as this new release though, is azita's arresting cover of neil young's "don't let it bring you down" from after the goldrush . for over two months it has [...]
