On August 18th, Australian trio PVT (formerly Pivot) released their awesome new record A Church With No Magic on Warp Records. The record is the culmination of a band that truly became a band during the recording process, tightening up every aspect of their sound and creating a more focused and balanced record than they... Musicology is quality IDM from the early 90s. Released on B12 Records, you'll be unsurprised to find that Musicology is an early alias for B12 (Michael Golding & Steve Rutter). They released three 12"s under this name, of which I have only one - clear vinyl mmmmnnn. Some tracks from these records made it on the debut album on Warp (which is actually a compilation). Featured tracks are from the 1991 eponymous 12": Musicology - Metropolis mediafire [...]

Blogs come and blogs go. That's the nature of the thing. And so Nolan Micron has decided to call it a day at Castles In Space . I just wanted to pause to mark CIS' passing. Great music and fine writing rarely appear together. They did at CIS. These tracks seemed appropriate. B12 - Premonition YSL B12 - Unknown Future YSL [...]

The Designers Republic - The Death of a Republic mix 'This mix is a tribute to an era when the names Warp and The Designers Republic were so intrinsically linked, they may as well have been the same company, and all this from Sheffield in the North of England (where it's always sunny!). All tracks are taken from Warp releases (bar one) where the artwork was created by tDR. Also, all are in chronological order of release, starting way back in 1990 right up to 2008.' [...]

I don't know - you wait a considerable amount of time for one pioneering IDM outfit to release an album and then another one comes along straight after...tsk. B12's Last Days of Silence double CD might not be getting the heavy rotation that Black Dog's Radio Scarecrow did and continues to do here at BBO North, but it's still a great slab of electronic wizardry. More dance floor bound, B12's offering has got a trouser-wobbling funkiness to it (particularly on '32 Lineup'), as well as some good old fashioned 303 squelches and [...]

It has been some 10 years since the duo Michael Golding & Steve Rutter otherwise know as B12 have broken the silence since their last recorded output. The 3 EP in 1998 was their last release following on from their 'Time Tourist' LP and their classic 'Electro-Soma' which was a highlight of Warp records seminal 'Artificial Intelligence' series. Last Days of Silence is a new release of unheard material, tracks only ever heard live plus music only available on limited edition vinyl. The continuity however [...]

In the mid-1990s I thought B12 was a duo. I was wrong and right. It is a duo but really a UK record label that releases really high quality techno, with a delicacy and precision reminiscent of Carl Craig at his best. They operated in the early 1990s and after a decade's absence returned in 2005. B12 Records was founded in 1990 by Mike Golding and Steve Rutter as a vehicle for themselves and others to release electronic music. Many thought the duo hailed from Detroit, as their sound fused many of the elements of Detroit techno. B12 [...]

Photo by Chusovitin Agnès, "Controversial Advantage" (Ripperton's Game Set & Match remix) [ Resopal Red ] Have to admit I've not heard the original for this fantastic remix, but something tells me I need to. Deeper than an excavation site, it kicks off with wide open finger snaps, tom rolls and an ear-hooking bass synth motif which grows fatter and steps closer to the forefront with each entrancing bar. This one should be kept at the front of a DJ's crate for pulling club patrons on the floor with [...]
