OK, we were originally intending to get this post up in the morning time, to help cheer you up and make you feel better about the fact that it is was Monday. However, our day was hella busy and pretty stressful, so this post is actually a bit of a pick-me-up after a slice of hecticness. All these tracks have been chosen by friends of our Facebook page as songs that they think are happy, or that make them happy. They've also been kind enough to write a little bit about the songs they picked out. Here we go... [...]

I've been revisiting Goldfrapp a lot lately, I just can't get enough from this electronic pop duo. I absolutely love everything they've ever released. Originally appearing on the Twist single, their cover of Yes Sir, I Can Boogie originally recorded by Spanish duo Baccara . Love the twist they put on the track. I've dug up the extended version, which was a vinyl-only release! Alison does it for me in every way. DOWNLOAD Yes Sir, I Can Boogie (Extended Version) [...]

In part one of my nostalgic trip to 1977 I recalled the sudden death of my father and how I shoved my rival out of the way in a race for my first true love's favour. Puberty's hormones had started to rage in my 11-year-old body. One day in early September I bought a copy of the teen magazine Bravo , familiar to me from the posters that used to cover my older sister's bedroom walls. This one had Linda Blair from The Exorcist on the cover, and inside the first of a four-part series [...]

Ha! Actually, there's nothing guilty in it for me - what the hell's wrong with a bit of pop?. I'll start with two by those nice girls from Baccara - Mayte Mateos & María Mendiola. I don't need an excuse, of course; but if I did, it's "I was only 13 guv'nor - didn't know what I was doing". These are their first two singles, both big hits in the UK & Europe, from 1977... and I love 'em to bits. ♫ Yes Sir, I Can Boogie - Baccara [...]

spain loved the 70s so much, it decided to keep them forever. seriously, something i noticed while in spain recently, is that they don't renovate or update for the sake of it. some of those shop fronts, signs and decor have been there for more than 30 years, untouched. similarly, why update your sound if it still works? disco clearly resonated within spanish ears, and they're reluctant to let go. with the dismal british news the only english-language entertainment we could get on our hotel, it made perfect sense. if ain't broke... Kudos to Matt and the Education Department of the SPGB (who they?) for updating - and posting online - an A-Z of Socialism on the SPGB website. As the Education Department lays it out: Preface This compendium is intended to be a reference-companion for socialists. It is aimed particularly at the newcomer to the socialist movement who may be unfamiliar with socialist terminology. We have included cross-referencing, suggested books for further reading and links to relevant websites at the end of most entries. [...]
If you belong to a certain generation, you will be familiar with the old music consoles featuring a radio tuner (in Germany with bands indicating exotic places such as Hilversum, Drubrovnik and Königsberg) and a record player with a spindle on which you'd stack up to ten records which would drop on to the turntable when the previous platter was finished. A bit like a pre-historic WinAmp playlist.
Way too much focus on Sébastien Tellier. Not nearly enough focus on Luxembourg's 1978 Eurovision entry. Baccara - Yes Sir, I Can Boogie
