Christchurch, New Zealand native Annabel Alpers, known to you and I as Bachelorette , is a quiet, sultry force that you can't even reckon with. Her debut for Drag City , and second proper album, has been described by a couple of writers as a sort of quirky "bedroom pop." I wholeheartedly disagree. My Electric Family is expansive, radical, and ionospheric. Packed with reverb, sweeping moods, and surrealistic lyrical motifs, Bachelorette is way too large for any bedroom. Each of the 11 songs on My Electric Family can certainly be categorized, loosely [...]

Hometown weird beard Bonnie 'Prince' Billy is swinging through the area Saturday, June 13th in support of Beware and Among the Gold , and I've got a pair of tickets to give away. Even more exciting is New Zealand native and Drag City representative Bachelorette opening up the show. I'm downright in love with Isolation Loops . Her latest, My Electric Family, just dropped last week, and something tells me you're going to hear a lot more about this album in the near future. Anyway, to enter the [...]

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy will be playing the Red Mile Round Barn in Lexington on Saturday June 13. No intro needed. Go see this show. New Zealand's Bachelorette will open. The show will be $10 in advance/$12 at the door, ALL AGES. You can get tickets at CD Central in advance (I don't think there is a place to get them online though).

We'll celebrate by kicking off some new residencies — and by wishing the Broken West's Ross Flournoy a happy birthday ...] Oliver Future takes another big step in its morphosis by launching a residency at the Echo, and the first night will offer Useless Keys as main support. ... Lots of great releases this week, which include two highly anticipated albums from both Grizzly Bear and Phoenix . Definitely worth picking each of these up as they each live up to lofty expectations, and I'm sure they will be populating many people's year-end lists. A few other interesting releases include Black Moth Super Rainbow's Eating Us and Viva Voce's Rose City . Anything else worth picking up this week? Let us know if we happened to leave off anything! Bachelorette My Electric Family Bachelorette - "I Want to Be Your Girlfriend" from Ventvox ..."On Annabel Alpers' Myspace page, it mentions that she took too many mushrooms and fell in love with a computer thereby enabling the New Zealand native to craft music as Bachelorette. On My Electric Family Ms. Alpers explores densely layered psychedelic soundscapes drowned in a drone of extensive electronics." Bike for Three! More Heart Than Brains [...]
by kevin diamond Tuesday, May 26 marks one of the most epoch album release dates in 2009. Though these records have already made multiple site appearances, today we're handing out our sanctioned QC ratings complete with mini-reviews, in conjunction with their official release. Bachelorette is Annabel Alpers , a singer/songwriter from New Zealand who will be releasing her third album, My Electric Family , tomorrow, May 26. Alpers makes quirky pop music incorporating elements of both folk and electronica for a varied and occasionally surprising sound that makes her new record one to get your ears on. Though she's slowly been gaining some traction in the States with her first U.S. tour last year, Bachelorette remains criminally undiscovered - but that may change if My Electric Family receives even half the attention [...]

Coming just under the wire is this weeks Ten Tracks You Need! I had almost given up hope this week that I'd find ten tracks worthy of mine (and your)time. But then BOOM a flood of great stuff came in and here we are with this weeks post. Anyway, there's enough stuff on here to keep you busy for like an hour or so. Hell the Buffet Libre download is TWO DISCS worth of stuff!! And nothing says Friday better than sitting at work and downloading/watching/listening to stuff you shouldn't be! So get to it. Have [...]
Bachelorette – Mind Warp This is such an amazing clusterfuck of the world's cheesiest sounds it's impossible not to love. Dig the 70s wucka-wucka guitars matched up with the intensely 80s synth roto-tom drum fills and hazy 60s vocal breakdowns: it's like all of the most fun musical parts of a night doing karaoke delivered by a funnier and more charming Debbie Harry. I know, right? The best part is it's not all about going "Ha ha, check out the bullshit our ancestors thought was cool," which is good for me, because I'd hate [...]

The schedule of free shows slated at the South Street Seaport is slowly starting to be released. Who can argue with a good, free, summer show, or ten? The seaport shows will start on June 13 with Children's Day, followed by the New York City Opera performing on June 27th. The shows we want to see won't start until July, with Here We Go Magic and Bachelorette performing on July 3, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart , Black Moth Super Rainbow and [...]

So I thought it'd be nice way to cap off winter with seven songs on high rotation (I've also been tagged by Oz from Decomposing Trees ). Beach House - Astrounaut Makes me want to lie down in a field of dandelions, or sunflowers and dream the best dream ever. Bachelorette - A Lifetime More warmth, optimism and beauty. Less cheesy, duration and over-the-top cute. See also (1). No Age - Teen Creeps Best track from the best album [...]

Last Thursday evening I had the great privilege of seeing Beach House live. As the second sold-out show and with beaming reports from the previous night, it felt like even more proof that Beach House are something special. With the lights down and almost off, the Baltimore duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally casually and seamlessly opened the set with (I think) "Wedding Bell". The soothing and ethereal vocals of Legrand were so lush it made you want to close your eyes [...]

Pics from the sold out Beach House show on Wednesday night at the Hopetoun Hotel. Despite being terribly jet lagged, Victoria Legrand's voice was just as enchanting live as it is on record and it was an absolutely privilege to see her and Alex Scally (guitar) in action. Earlier, New Zealand's fellow Mistletone labelmate, Bachelorette , entertained with her brand of psychedelic folk and "space pop". One of my favourite blogs, Einstein Music [...]
