
A few years ago, when I tiptoed back into music journalism after some time away, Backwords was one among the artists who made re-entry a pleasure. I liked the Brooklyn-based combo's blend of folk-rock with Americana, retro guitar tones, and an indefinable freshness. I had a rather comical exchange with sorta lead vocalist (as the band says, "everybody sings") and guitarist Brian Russ, and ended up getting quoted on the band's Myspace.
