'Pop' punk officially has new meaning: PunkRadioCast and Jones soda have teamed up to bring you a special edition six-pack of punk rawk soda pop. The package includes bottles featuring artwork from The Gaslight Anthem, Thursday, Less than Jake, New Found Glory, and Bad Brains (the sixth bottle is just the PunkRadioCast logo... boring). For the small price of $15.99 (plus shipping), these tiny pictures of bands on otherwise normal beverages can be yours too. —Nikki Turner
After completing his stint on the entire 2009 Warped Tour, P.O.S. will be heading overseas to play some European dates with Brains (audio/video).

These songs remind me of dark, hot sweaty underground clubs, filled with teenage men, hot sweaty and lithe, writhing against each other, limbs flailing, reaching a state of ecstasy. Ah, the mosh pit. What the hell did you think I was talking about? Bad Brains – Pay to Cum Minor Threat – Minor Threat Dead Kennedys – Holiday in Cambodia Black Flag – Rise Above Wipers – Youth of America Bad Brains started off as a jazz fusion act, until deciding to become a hardcore punk band. And that's [...]
The sole difference between H.R.'s latest album, Hey Wella , and Bad Brains' 2007 release, Build A Nation , is that unlike the glossy surface provided by Adam Yauch, Hey Wella has a level of production value that lands it somewhere closer to a time when Bad Brains were in their prime.

The brothers David, Dannis, and Bobby Hackney (seen above) were the Detroit power trio called Death . According to a recent-ish NYT article , "the teenage Hackney brothers started playing R&B in their parents’ garage in the early ’70s but switched to hard rock in 1973, after seeing an Alice Cooper show." Hailing from the home of MC5 and The Stooges , the brothers played a brand of souped up rock and roll (call it protopunk if you want). In fact, they "preceded Bad Brains , the most celebrated African-American punk band, [...]
There is some not-quite-expressible but nonetheless poignant irony/out-of-order hagiography in this signed print of the Bad Brains from Shepard Fairey, an artist last seen giving Obama indelibly ico... Continue reading "Next Up On the Bad Brains Canonization Brigade: Shepard Fairey" >
MUST-SEE SHOW: 4/22 Kings of Leon & The Walkmen @ AJ Palumbo Center There's a lot of good stuff going down in Pittsburgh this month, none better than the Followill brothers playing on the campus of Duquesne. Kings of Leon have been smoking lately, from earning high-profile festival gigs to winning a Grammy for "Sex on Fire." And while I think the Walkmen are massively overrated, they do bring a bit of star power to the opening act slot. ALSO WORTH ATTENDING: [...]
Just a little treat for your Friday. I thought we needed to get a little more intense after the Prince post. Bad Brains - Pay to Cum (7 inch Version)
I’ll be honest right off the bat, I am NOT getting any kickback for this.

And now, the conclusion of our extensive recap of last week's Harvest of Hope . If you missed day one, you can find it here . And don't forget to check back in the upcoming weeks for interviews with The Gaslight Anthem, None More Black, The Casting Out and Against Me! DAY 2 Just to get it out of the way from the very beginning, I would like to hereby declare all Day Twos of future Harvest of Hope Fests as [...]
One of the greatest (and unheralded) groups ever! Apparently this is not an official trailer as they are still actually collecting material (film/video, photo, audio, flyers, etc.) for the documentary. Email them here if you have stuff.
I don't know if it's possible to be any more bad ass than Bad Brains. A bunch of dreadlocked Rastafarians who break open the DC punk scene and become some of the most skilled, most influential punk rockers ever. And they still played reggae too. And their name is Bad Brains. Credit to Flawless Hustle for spotting this one. PigeonsandPlanes
Bad Brains_teaser I'm fucking stoked for this shit. One of the best hardcore bands of all time. Yes, they influenced a grip of the rappers you sweat today.
The documentary on the legendary hardcore band Bad Brains , which was apparently shot in part while promoting their 2007 album Build A Nation , isn't quite finished yet, but the filmmakers have slapped the above trailer onto their MySpace page , as well as a call for archival footage and material from the band's history . Surely someone in this crowd must have something usable, right? Or at the very least know who, exactly, can license Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air clips ? [ MySpace via Paste [...]
Below is a new trailer from a forthcoming Bad Brains rockdoc from Mandy Stein and Ben Logan . Seems the filmmakers are looking for vintage Bad Brains material. Do you have any? Please send, 'cause it looks right now that they have only talking head footage with cool old punkers and Bad Brains footage from their shows in recent years on the boat in the Hudson River and at last CBGBs shows. They write on their MySpace page.... Official Bad Brains documentary is looking for ANY AND ALL video/film footage (all formats), photos, [...]
Given that, pace Obama, we're already in a rearguard fight against the insanely ubiquitous culture of our elders--the Rolling Stones, marijuana, VW buses--it's more than a bit demoralizing to see ou... Continue reading "Bad Brains to Be Embalmed Once More On Film" >
Reason steals my jokes! There's a Facebook group going to try and get Bad Brains to play at the swearing in of the next president in a few days. I suppose this is in line with the irony of Obama carrying California as Cali passes prop 8 and that law to make sure chickens are doing 'kay before we slaughter them. /political statements Speaking of random music related Facebook news, I am the second result if you search "Thurston Moore" on Facebook. Does anyone know [...]

Obviously kind of late but that shirt is so dope I had to post this anyway.... About the shirts: "I've been a longtime fan of the seminal DC band Bad Brains and am also (you guessed it) a Barack Obama supporter. I have some professional screenprinting equipment and for several months had wanted to make some Obama shirts but had a hard time coming up with something I liked. This idea crossed my mind after having shelved the idea of doing a shirt for Obama. I couldn't find anyone else [...]
