by Sebastian O'Dowd After 3 hours of waiting in the queue in the one and only entrance to the whole site of Boomtown we finally made it to the gate and the excitement began to build. However as if the long wait was not enough we then had our second hassle of the day, finding a space to put up camp, which at Boomtown proves to be very challenging due to the density of the campsite as a whole. But then the evening came and one can finally step back and lay eyes upon [...]
Lip up fatty - Bad Manners Wow. This is a surprise. I haven't heard this song in over ten years and here it is. I thought i had it exorcised. A wasted youth trying to find place in and get something out of ska. It's not as bad as my determination never to hear it again lead me to believe. It's mostly due to the sound of that harmonica. What a lovely thing.

Boomtown Fair are delighted to announce that they have secured heavyweight ska ruffians Bad Manners to headline Saturday night at the festival! Bad Manners originally formed way back in 1976, just when the ska revolution was starting to explode into w... Read more..

Bad Manners : Ne Ne Na Na Nu Nu [ purchase ] I actually remember this one with a couple extra Nas in the title, but no matter. Madness, the Specials, and Bad Manners all belonged to the wave of ska bands that emerged from the London punk scene in the late 70s, and reached American shores starting in about 1980. Ska is not punk, of course, but the scene welcomed them anyway. Like punk, ska served as a conduit for the anger of working class youth, but ska [...]

On the 13th December, Bad Manners bring their truly mad blend of ska, reggae and punk to the Academy in Dublin. You can expect an energetic display from the crowd, egged on by Doug Trendle and his troupe of exceptionally talented musicians. Trendle has been touting his wares around the world solidly as Buster Bloodvessel, for the last 33 years. Formed in 1976 (and making their debut at Stonehenge) Bad Manners have not let up for more than a few weeks at a time. Their brand of goodtime music with all the frills but no [...]

This week, the Friday Five commemorates Mr. & Mrs. Toad's official state visit to Italy, with questions and music that reflect the culture and history of that great nation. They're staying in Puglia, apparently. The 'heel' of Italy's 'boot', geographically speaking. An agricultural region, it's well known for its abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables. Obviously, however, the Toads will be happy anywhere they can get their hands on gin in biblical quantities. I'd also like to say how well I think Euan's been doing so far at the conn of the Starship Toadiprise. It's certainly [...]

See if you can pick out the ginger-haired Kansas City musician hopping on stage along with Bad Manners at a January 18 gig in San Diego. Justin Warring (Stella Link, Sex Police) is currently on tour... Continue reading "Justin Warring Bopping Along On Tour with Bad Manners" >

Breaking the rules today with the following. They are not by or about a football team or by or about any football players. What they are about is some seasonal tunes done by a couple of musical acts who are well know for their footie supporting. With the first one literally putting his money (or as you will see - his tongue) where his mouth is: A few years ago Mr B. Bloodvessel was involved with his local team, even going as [...]
Bad Manners - "Christmas Time Again" A single from 1989. A bit of sleigh-ska for you.
I've been so busy lately I barely have time to sleep - sorry for neglecting you once again. Things'll get back on track when I get back from Chicago in November. For now, dig my super rad half joke but mostly serious reggae / ska /rocksteady/modern guilty pleasures of similar influence mixtape, full of tracks from the best Ska compilation EVER, that my friend gave me for Christmas when I was 12. I don't remember what it was called. Anyway, sorry - this shoulda gone out on Monday, didn't get made till Tuesday, and isn't being posted till Thursday: [...]
Bad Manners - Lip Up Fatty { Buy } Though I got this off of Bad Manners (MCA Records / America) (1982) ( I found it in a delete bin back in '84) I ripped it with my new Numark TTUSB . Love it, great fun though it has lead to some late nights .. the only thing I can say against it is that it doesn't have a dust cover and don't let your kids near it. I had to replace the needle in the first week. 8 year olds, have to [...]

For this week's contribution to Bahlactus's Friday Night Fights , I opted for something with a little Yuletide flair. (from The Best of DC Digest #22, March 1982; by Bob Rozakis, Jose Delbo, and Vince Colletta) ..because it just wouldn't be Christmas without a little seasonal holiday aggression. (I hope Robin kept the receipt for that kick to the face, just in case the recipient wished to exchange it for a different cause of severe [...]
The weird shit that you can find on soundtracks to obscure movies never ceases to amaze me. Most recently I found the soundtrack to Party Party , a forgotten 80s teen flick about (surprise) a party. I can find absolutely no information about it online so if anyone knows anything about it please comment. It certainly had a decent soundtrack though, with some odd ska-tinged covers of classic tunes, and some appearances by some very noteworthy 80s artists that you might not expect. Time for a track-by-track rundown. Elvis Costello - [...]

Happy 2nd Blogoversary, Bully! Keep up the good work. This one is dedicated to you, my little stuffed friend. - Bad Manners - Wooly Bully (from Ska 'N' B , 1980) - I have no clue why this album is out of print, but then much of what record companies do mystifies me.
Soundtrack From The Movie Dance Craze I've never been a big ska fan and I think the genre peaked in the early 80s. So this soundtrack find was cool for me. Dance Craze is like the Urgh! of Ska movies, and has a lot of great live cuts that aren't available anywhere else. The CD version has some more songs than this vinyl one, but it also doesn't have any tracks by Madness, and I'd rather have the latter than the former. The tracks are listed in their original track order, which is why the bands are a [...]

My life has become something of a circus these past few days, what with all the goings on and shenanigans and grease-painted harbingers of pure evil showing up in tiny cars and such. (OK, I made that last part up. There has been no clown invasion, and for that I am very thankful.) Still, when life decides to launch you out of a cannon in the center ring, one has to simply execute a triple somersault and hope that the carnies weren't too drunk when they set up the catch net. Keeping with the prevailing situation, here's a [...]
