It's time to listen to the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. These are some of the songs that would get there own individual posts on GIMME TINNITUS, if I only had the time. This mix starts out all punk rocky and ends with remix bliss. Listen. What is going on this week in the D? A light but good work week of shows with heavily buzzed Dawes coming to Fort Worth which should be definitely worth checking out. And then we have the Dallas Observer Music Awards Showcases hitting this Saturday night in Deep Ellum, which will certainly be the place to be with a ton of great local bands plus the guest appearance of Lucero, The Secret Machines and the greatness of The Cool Kids on the outdoor stage. You could also satisfy your nostalgic appetite with either Weird Al Yankovic or [...]

So, I am not going to SXSW this year, but if I was here is a selection of mp3s from bands I would want to see. I was able to whittle down the list to 40 songs. No easy task. Listen. Denton is still in my opinion one of the gems of Texas, though many people will disagree, I think they may hold it to an unreachable standard. Nonetheless the music out of this city is incomparably eclectic and dense with talent. Keeping to this ideal Texas' own Play Pinball! Records, who you may know for putting out the Fungi Girls LP , have recently released a compilation honoring this city's musical virtuosity. The comp titled Denton Denton USA! features medley of bands formed in the town; the comp includes cuts from Uptown Bums, Video, Bad Sports, The [...]

In between our constant displays of affection and putting out their 7", no doubt you'll have read and heard a lot from us about the Stax stained, 60's inspired lo-fidelity pop from the combined forces/harmonies of Andrew Savage and Jason Kelly AKA Fergus & Geronimo . We've been lucky enough recently to catch some early cuts from the debut album they're currently recording (in analogue naturally) and it combines the timeless charm born from those early demos with a much cleaner, richer and overall beefed-up pocket symphony. We're going to be totally objective and tell you that [...]
Denton, Texas' Bad Sports bring forth one of the best modern power pop albums we've heard around here since fellow Douchemasters Gentleman Jesse and His Men laid their sweet southern charms down upon us a little over a year back. Energetic, but just to the edge of frantic, the Sports' self-titled debut brings a brash dose of unhinged catharsis that fueled the best 70's power pop. The band harbors members of Wax Museums and High Tension Wires so you know going in head first there's already a certain standard of TX garage rock quality. And just as with their brethren [...]
I've loved all the great garage bands to come out of the area in the last few years, namely Denton ; Wax Museums , Uptown Bums , Bad Sports , etc... Here is a band from the far-off Minneapolis scene, a two-piece band known as Birthday Suits shred loud, fast, and high-strung songs that last about 2 minutes - no more, no less. What catches my interest is how close the vocal harmonies are for such a fast-paced band, I mean sure its easy for the Raveonettes to pull that off playing slow indie pop, [...]

Low is playing Dallas tonight! And we get an interview!! Slow start to the week of live music in DFW, with the exception of the always amazing Abe Vigoda at The Cavern last night. I hope someone went. Unfortunately, I didn't make it. I've seen Abe Vigoda at least three times, and not only do they put on a fantastic show, but they're also super nice guys. The very promising Seattle art-punk trio Talbot Tagora , who I've never seen, opened the show. Their upcoming album Lessons in the Woods or a [...]

Living in Dallas is like living on the surface of the sun. This place is not fit for human habitation. Especially if you're blue-eyed and pasty-skinned like me. I've always found the Fourth of July to be an overrated holiday. There's a built-in obligation to be outside. I love my country and all, but I want no part of the heat. Even after the sun goes down, beers get warm too fast to provide any relief. Fireworks are exciting, sure. Up north. Here, they're best viewed on a wall-mounted Samsung while basking in glorious central a/c. I say fuck the [...]

Anyone in the metroplex area that can make it to Denton Wednesday night will not be sorry. A house show featuring Woven Bones (early weeklytapedeck write up ), Uptown Bums , and Bad Sports is happening and will surely be a good time. I will be out with my deteriorating video skills in hopes of bringing our first live performance to the 'deck. If you do make it out, please bring money for Woven Bones who are making the trip up from Austin. Also a new track from them as of yesterday via [...]
Just noticed these guys were added to the bill on Friday night's show in Denton at Rubber Gloves. Bad Sports will be joining as the opener for the Strange Boys and Mika Miko . The tunes are straight punk and found me scrambling to get the 73 here on Boom Chick Records. I'm hoping there will be some at the show for purchase as it looks like these guys are pretty low on the radar as of now. The exposure associated with their upcoming show should prove beneficial to [...]
