Great show coming up Saturday at Rohs Street Cafe. Local favorites Bad Veins and the buzzworthy PUBLIC will be joining out-of-towners The Ridges in the gorgeous Rohs Street Sanctuary. The show comes at an interesting time for Bad Veins. Frontman Ben Davis announced through their website last month that drummer Sebastien Schultz amicably left the band. Still, the split doesn't mean the end for Bad Veins. Davis says "we're currently just taking things one day at a time," and the band recently played two shows with drummer Jake Bonta. No word yet on what the lineup will look [...]
The Chevin wins this week for the lovely song and snippets of enviable scenery, but for spirit, it's my local Bad Veins who take top spot for the gal dancing in her undies for the whole video. Regurgitation and Dancing in Color, Artistry, Pants, Ear-worms, and dexterous handibles fill in the rest of what you'll see [...]

On the second to last date of their spring 2012 North American tour, Bangor's Two Door Cinema Club decided to make a visit to a place they'd never been: Baltimore, Maryland. I myself don't like the idea of trekking up a hour (usually more or in our case this night, nearly 2 hours) in traffic up the I-95 motorway, though if you ask Cheryl, she is there is all the time for gigs. Unless it's a band that I'm dying to see that I know won't be coming to Washington, I don't [...]
The future holds great things for Bad Veins. As for Two Door Cinema Club, they delivered an amazing live performance, which of course was expected of them.

Well, it's been a week since our last post, and it was a nice break. We resume normal activities with a bouillabaisse of music and music news. Consider These Fast Romantics - "Funeral Song" Despite the title, this is an exuberant track with jangle and power pop tendencies. It's from the forthcoming Fast Romantics album entitled "Afterlife Blues." - Patterns - "Blood" and "Induction" [...]

So Two Door is one of those bands that I can't help but like. Call me a sucker for Brit Pop done by Irish kids (cue snarky comment from Nathan). But what was nice to see was Bad Veins opening for them again. They are on the local label Modern Outsider who are friends of the program. However, the middle support sucked . Think wedding DJ meets karaoke mash-up. Oh my, it was so bad and made worse when I found out the respectable Clap Your Hands Say [...]

The long anticipated debut solo album, Blunderbuss, from iconic rocker and semi-celebrity Jack White, officially dropped this week to a huge amount of buzz and publicity. While the advanced reviews have been largely positive, it is only in the past few days that most fans have been able to get their hands on the official [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Ever wonder what Soul Train would look like if it were powered by modern indie-pop? Thanks to Cincinnati pair Bad Veins , we have the answer. The video for "Dancing on TV", a cut off of the recently-released The Mess We've Made , opens with a minute and a half sequence featuring a spot-on recreation of a 70s living room. Complete with giant television cabinet, Atari, terrible color palettes and a bored teenager in knee-high tube socks, our main character flips through channels on her giant, clunky remote control as she happens upon a [...]

A few of my favorite new releases this week, including the latest from Toro y Moi and the solo debut from the one and only Jack White. As always, be sure to check out Largehearted Boy and KEXP for a whole lot more. Bad Veins// The Mess We've Made ♩ Dancing On TV [...]

It's hard to believe after all the projects that Jack White has been involved with over the years that he's only just now getting to his first solo album. Blunderbuss tops this week's list of new releases, and if you're fan of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs or The Dead Weather, grabbing this one is a no brainer, though you'll get a you'll definitely be in for some surprises. As our Music Director, Don Yates, says, it "features a more expansive and diverse sound than anything’s he’s recorded with, masterfully combining elements of garage-rock, folk-rock, blues, country, ragtime, [...]
