I saw this list the other day and felt compelled to make a more comprehensive, accurate, and essential rundown of albums that have truly stood out in a musical and historical sense. Albums that are influential, groundbreaking and still memorable. And let's be clear that bands like Galaxie 500, Mercury Rev, Verve, Mazzy Star, etc., these are all great bands that have produced some astounding work, but they are definitely not shoegaze. It's obviously way too early to rank the new MBV album so I'm not even gonna go there. [...]
Wow. This was painful. I tried to describe as many of these as I could without resorting to copy/paste from record labels, 'zines or blogs, but eventually we all start to fatigue. Sure, it'd be nice to look all respectable with one-hundred totally unique and informative descriptions of these albums, but I don't have that kind of [...]
Ah, life is good. Especially when the New York Giants win convincingly against one of the better teams in the NFL. The dread that fills me on certain Sundays when I worry the team I support might underperform came again today. By halftime I felt much better, though. Still…when is Kevin Gilbride (the team's offensive [...]

Bailterspace released their first LP in 13 years, Strobosphere, last month via Fire Records. You can check a pretty rad cut from the record below. A special shout out to one of our faves GIMME TINNITUS for turning us on to it. This is Blue Star. Give it a spin. Bailterspace; Blue Star

It's time to check out a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. These are just a few of the songs that would get their own individual posts here on GIMME TINNITUS if I only had the time. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. Listen. Downloadables: I Really Like Sonic Youth, And I Really Want To Have Sex With You (mp3) by Jen Schande Blue Star (mp3) by Bailterspace [...]

In the late 80s and early 90s, New Zealand's Flying Nun records were the Kiwi equivalent to UK labels such as Postcard, Creation and Sarah records, with a roster that focused on the emergent indie scene and contained bands such as The Chills and The Clean. Bailter Space (or Bailterspace if you prefer, they accept either) weren't label misfits (in fact they included a member of The Clean amongst their ranks) but their sound was a more robust form of space rock, taking in elements of shoegaze and heavy drones. They were hit and miss. For every great [...]

Hey, cool...it's 2012 and I'm listening to a new album from Bailterspace . I've probably said it before, but I guess it's just safe to assume that any band from the yesteryears of the indie-rock universe could release an album at any point. Obviously the results are dependent on the circumstances (like if the members are still alive) and who the band is, but I'll go on record as saying that I'm sure as shit excited about Strobosphere . Bailterspace, even after 13 years of inactivity, are still particularly interesting [...]

Back in 2004, the New Zealand band Bailter Space announced a hiatus, and took their striking, messy noise rock into hiding with them. Now, in this world so preoccupied with musical nostalgia, they could have hardly chosen a better time to return with the 11 track Strobosphere and without a space in their name. Right from the first second of 'Things That We Found', it's clear that Bailterspace haven't undergone a dramatic re-invention. It's all still there: distorted guitars, the moody, dark bass, the barely intelligible, Dirty Beaches style vocals. However, although the [...]

Brooklyn group Yeasayer top this week's list of new releases as they continue down the path away from their initial indie-tribal leanings with, what our Music Director, Don Yates, calls "a darker and more adventurous take on the dance-friendly synth-pop of 2010’s Odd Blood , combining warped, buzzing synths, jittery rhythms, processed vocals and dystopian lyrics." No doubt, Fragrant World will elevate Yeasayer's indie status to its rightful place beside NY contemporaries Dirty Projectors and Animal Collective. Read a full review of the album on the KEXP blog here . Also out this week [...]

New Zealand alt-rock outfit Bailterspace formed back in ‘87 and were once described as “the Sonic Youth of the Southern Hemisphere”. Having released seven albums and numerous EPs, some via the likes of Flying Nun and Matador, these guys carry well trodden distortion pedals if nothing else. So now they return to the studio (they haven’t recorded new material for over ten years) and attempt to pick up where they left off. And when I say left off I mean a band attempting to recreate a moment in history that has long since passed. [...]

The Sea and Cake – Harps [mp3] (from Runner , out Sept 18 th on Thrill Jockey Records ) Lushness from dream-pop originators Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt. In follow-up to 2011’s The Moonlight Buttergly, Sam Prekop continues to experiment with synthesizer/sequencer based foundations that provide a canvas for further experimentation that is only complete after the players in The Sea and Cake all have a chance at “finding” latent elements within the song. [...]
Return to form? Maybe. It's more like just a return to music for indie veterans and MAGNET faves Bailterspace. Strobosphere (Fire) is the band's first album in 13 years. "No Sense," its first single, definitely seems like Bailterspace song, but with a diverse-sounding band like this one, anything with deadpanning and distortion could sound like [...]

You know who else is about to release a new album? Bailterspace, that's who. The last one predates the start of No Rock - it's been thirteen years, an absence that has grown into puberty. Which makes Strobosphere pretty exciting. It's not out until August, though, but in the meantime, they've snuck out a taste - No Sense: -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch

So much new music these days is reminiscent of the golden age of shoegaze that my heart fairly skips a beat when one of the golden-agers actually turn up. So it was a moment ago, when the new single from Bailterspace (sometimes rendered Bailter Space) popped into my email. The New Zealand/New York rockers rose to prominence on the legendary Flying Nun Records, and their three-records-in-three-years run ("Robot World," "Vortura" and "Wammo," all of which came out on Matador from 1993 to ’95) remains dizzying in today's world. Their single "X" (1994) remains at No. 7 [...]
