Mechanisburg, Pennsylvania's Alec Koone – aka Balam Acab – can certainly be said to occupy something of a lonesome nether zonal void left in the mournless wake that followed the relieving demise of the ever-gruesome 'witch house' genre categorisation. We ought not forget that SALEM were once perceived to be the savours of all things unholy , that the questionable talents of the trio carried them from one dank corner of the globe to another far-flung yet equally glum. Koone trades in similarly flatulent bass lines while employing equally ethereal vocal strains often warped beyond human recognition [...]

Tweet Listen to and download Superhumanoids ' new song "Geri" from their album "Exhibitionists" . When we first started writing about Superhumanoids it was because of our monster SXSW post, then we threw down an Intro and then we just became a tiny wee bit obsessed with them, offering up anything they'd let us. Though they've been releasing [...]

oOoOO (simply pronounced "oh") has a little too much fun typing, but his songs make up for this. The latest track by the San Francisco based producer is characteristically chilly and ethereal. "NoWayBack" has the same beauty as a spider web in a decaying industrial space, the juxtaposition of gossamer and concrete. Parisian artist ButterClock's sadly bewildered vocals are obscured by hazy reverb and underscored by a trap-hop bass-line. Especially with the low-end drum-machine staggering underneath, this dusky little tune is a nod towards witch-house, in particular Balam Acab. Clean melodic cascades of synth cut through the haze, and skittering beats meander in and out. This is a sexy [...]
Posted in Get Your Gig On The Clink favorite Active Child just updated his tour schedule today & it's got some dates of interest. Namely the Toronto on May 15 @ Lee's Palace. ![[Introducing] – PONCHOS](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4030216_lg.jpg)
Tweet Judging by his music, Boston-via-Chicago based musician PONCHOS is a man of many moods. The project, for now, is a one-man-show, James Krivchenia, a 23 year-old whose first encounter with music was playing drums in the 4 th grade. Since then, he's been in numerous bands and has worked mixing and producing different records. His latest project is the "Rawness" EP , which he put out last November and is free to download on his Bandcamp . Just within [...]

On Wednesday January 11, 2012, Brookyln based electronic label Tri Angle announced the signing of 22 year old UK producer 'Vessel'. The deal is noteworthy as Tri Angle has a reputation for signing up-and-coming indie electronica acts which have gone on to do big things. Specifically, their artists' contributions to the "witch house" genre have been unmatched. Balam Acab, Holy Other, Clams Casino, & How to Dress Well are just a few Tri Angle artists who have achieved notoriety within the blogosphere and amongst underground electronic scenes. So, when Tri Angle announces the signing [...]

The tale of renaissance and the cold rediscovery of the creative spirit. Witch house, drag, ghost drone, dark wave, dark snyth, witch bass, zombie rave and sometimes even seapunk will find their way into the notes of this feature. These sounds are brought to "life" by composers who not only to test the boundaries of music today, but most importantly the paradigms that envelope it. Welcome - You might hear a punky harsh [...]

Posted in Play-This-List Soundbite Goodbye 2011, it was a year that flew by way too fast, and it was also the year that I truly felt overwhelmed by the amount of music available in all shapes and forms. This post highlights the albums & EPs that we've enjoyed the most over the past year, there's a lot of albums [...]

ALBUMS OF THE YEAR #25 - #21 #25 Sleep Over - Forever - Casual Diamond ( MP3 ) The now-defunkt Pitchfork subsidiary Altered Zones presented, amongst many others, an album stream for Sleep Over's Forever in 2011, the haunting solo project of Stefanie Franciotti. I missed them in Brighton with Pure X in the Autumn, but 'Forever' has been a regular spin encouraged by its gangly synthesised riffs, mountainous mid-range and haunting Warpaint-esque female voices in constant competition. #24 Dirty Beaches - Badlands - Lord Knows Best ( MP3 [...]
