Folly & The Hunter: Tragic Care - In Folly & The Hunter 's own summary of Tragic Care , they describe the album as finding "beauty in the breakdown", and I could not agree more with this assessment. This is the sophomore album from the Canadian trio. Tragic Care is a response to heartbreak and tragedy, which clearly translates. There are elements of the album that are very comforting and it was obviously a cathartic release for the members, especially singer Nick Vallee, whose real life experiences were the main inspiration. The subject matter is both heart-wrenching and relatable. Anyone who has [...]

Today we flash back on another of our favourite labels: SUB POP RECORDS . They're responsible for the careers of a diverse range of bands, from Nirvana to Dum Dum Girls to our very own Husky . And they're celebrating 25 years in the business on July 13. That means that they've been around since 1988. Before that founder Bruce Pavitt started a fanzine called Subterranean Pop about American independent artists and their labels. He started releasing compilations [...]

BUTCH CLANCY people! We've had doubts about his ability to return to the way he used to be, the music he used to produce and the vibes he used to be able to create but this may just throw all of those ungrateful doubts out the window. In a manner much like that to his remix of Band of Horses years back (sorry to be cliche), Clancy returns to offer confidence and beauty through a mixture of all his influences. While on a tour for his recent LP A Beautiful Mind , a trapstyle testament to [...]

This fact may be hard to believe, but throughout their long and storied career the Preservation Hall Jazz Band have never released a studio album consisting entirely of their own original compositions. The legendary New Orleans act will change all that come July 9, with the release of That's It! via Sony Legacy. The 11-track record, which was recorded at the band's home-base at 726 St. Peter Street in the French Quarter, was co-produced by Pres Hall's own Ben Jaffe and My Morning Jacket front man Jim James , [...]

Be it a surprise Norwegian wedding set or in a New York hotel conference room, Ben Bridwell and Tyler Ramsey have a Cease To Begin cut prepared for any room. Rookie recorded this live version of "No One's Gonna Love You" recently, in which the pair counter their surroundings with just an old, road-weary acoustic guitar and Bridwell's strained neck vein vocals. Watch it above.

This perfectly disheveled Swedish four-piece have been carving out taut, just-out-of-bed indie-pop for the last few years, culminating in their addictive, sugar-pop debut EP. Since then we've had the standalone, synth-riddled single 'World On Fire', which moved the band on from jerky Strokes-lite indie and into large, widescreen soft-rock. And now comes something rather different. At times 'On Our Way' borders on 'hands in the air' Euro-pop. Actually, scrap that. All the way through this sounds exactly like 'hands in the air' Euro-pop. Don't be cynical. Enjoy the ride. Because this is ENORMOUS amounts of fun. [...]

The Lumineers @ Austin 360 Amphitheater Those who've been fans of Ruby Hornet might remember a photos series called The Lens and The Life . Its was a bi-weekly photo blog of photos I shot during the previous weeks. A lot has changed since the last TL&TL post - I live in a new city (Austin,TX), have a new job, and love to cook. This is the return of The Lens and The Life, and I hope you guys enjoy it. There was a lot going on in Austin last week: The Moontower [...]

Last month's passing of Jason Molina, the man behind Songs Ohia and Magnolia Electric Company was an incredibly sad moment for the indie rock community. One small shred of positive light has been the exposure of his music to a large audience that he never had the opportunity to reach when he was alive. The latest such exposure is the national television debut of one of Jason's songs by way of the Band of Horses. In addition to dusting off one of their own classics "The General Specific", BOH used the national stage to pay tribute to their friend and [...]

La banda hizo un cover a "I've Been Riding With the Ghost", además de interpretar "The General Specific" de su álbum Cease to Begin .

Last night, Band Of Horses joined the ranks honoring the loss of Jason Molina with their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live . They paid tribute by performing Songs:Ohia track "I've Been Riding With The Ghost," as well as playing their own cut "The General Specific" from 20072s Cease To Begin . Watch both below. Read More... This week, Secretly Canadian reissued Songs: Ohia' s first EP, 19972s Hecla & Griper , in recognition of the album's 15th anniversary. According to press for the release, this is just one of multiple projects the label was working on with Jason Molina before his passing back in March . Available on vinyl for the first time ever, the reissue of Hecla & Griper features two previously unreleased Songs: Ohia cuts: "Debts" and "Pilot & Friend". In addition, there are two alternate tracks that would later be included on Songs: Ohia's [...]
The BAND OF HORSES dropped via the Jimmy Kimmel show to perform I'VE BEEN RIDING WITH THE GHOST and I've just crutched me way back from the hospital post having the lower part of my right leg stitched back up.

This weekend marks the inaugural run for Atlanta's brand new Shaky Knees Festival , and I'm stoked to be there to experience it! The two day festival will be held in a newly completed park next to a prominent Atlanta music venue, The Masquerade . The schedule and lineup is a bit light compared to other festival heavy-hitters ( Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Hangout ), but for a first year festival, the lineup is pretty amazing. The schedule is 12-11 Saturday, May 4, and 12-10 Sunday, May 5. Nearly every act scheduled to [...]

Seemingly overnight, versatile music producer Butch Clancy has reached nearly 100,000 Facebook fans. It's not a testament to his social media skills, but rather evidence of his ability to appease fans of multiple genres. While he originally gained notoriety for his "downtempo dubstep" remixes to beautiful tracks like "The Funeral" and Sia's "Breathe Me," Clancy went on to release the full-length trap album A Beautiful Mind . Now he's returned to his roots, providing a sentimental dubstep take on Rihanna's "Stay." Abounding with warm piano progression, soft kicks, and slow-rolling bass, Butch [...]

The Internet's constant rush of new music is great. But time and time again, audiences come back to the old stuff. As of last year, catalog sales outpace new music sales . People who lived in the era of whatever that "old stuff" is seek it out for nostalgia and young people who never lived in that music's era long for a time in music history they never lived in. But how does the constant rush of quality new music get winnowed down and become “old stuff” or canon? Converting the varied ages at New Orleans Jazz & [...]
