I never got the chance to shoot Band of Horses when they were in our prime, i.e. still carrying the buzz of the early releases through the blogosphere. I did however got to see them in the big church during SxSW. That was pretty moving. Wall of sound, cathedral (seriously) ceilings, perfect venue for the at times sparse and haunting songwriting that made us suckers for the first two albums. They have since left our little corner of the intarwebs for bigger pastures, but so what. I got to shoot them finally under the carnival tent [...]

Peel back the surface and look past the picturesque valley backdrop. Forget about the gorgeous, sun-kissed young folk wearing next to nothing (or, on occasion, nothing). Go ahead and ignore the ridiculous hippie art splattering the landscape. Once you get past everything that suggests Coachella is a legit wonderful place, reality sets in. You're in hell. Everything pretty or fun is undercut by a physical reminder that you're in the desert, and the desert is no place for human life. Read More...

As is the case with any festival, the time will inevitably come when you have to pick between two bands you want to see that are playing at the same time. Generally, I'd say splitting your time between both is the way to go, but in the end that's easier said than done. This past weekend I had to make some tough decisions and pick one artist over another (and in some cases, over yet another). Since everyone’s musical taste is differs, some of you will disagree; leave your gripes in the comments and be done with it. Here are [...]

Olivia Malone Some weeks, the inbox is a veritable cornucopia of interesting concert announcements for acts big and small. Compiling the blog posts that collect those up is a genuine delight. And easy. Generally so easy. This was not one of those weeks. Indeed, most of the news was of the "support announced" variety, which isn't necessarily uninteresting - sometimes it's more interesting than the headliner - but it is less easy. Anyways, we'll kick off with New York's

Youngblood Hawke: Wake Up - I feel like this should be the soundtrack for every kid wanting more. For the kid who is aching to get out and experience life on their own terms. It’s hopeful. It’s ambitious. It’s pretty damn surprising that they aren’t more recognized by now. These Colorado-born musicians quit college and joined the LA music scene, doing what it takes to make it. After their first band, Simon and Samuel Martin started from scratch and developed something incredible: the perfect anthem for summer, which happens just around the corner for us Californians. The 2013 edition of Edgefest , sponsored by local radio station 102.1 The Edge , has finally been given some details. This year's show will take place at Downsview Park on July 31st. The line-up of performers (most of whom are far edgier than anything the station ACTUALLY plays) includes: The Lumineers Band Of Horses Monster Truck Mother Mother [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Lollapalooza We've been had before, so don't blame us (if we're wrong) in posting this " leaked " 2013 Lollapalooza lineup. According to Consequence of Sound , this image was posted last night, and has basically been confirmed by The Chicago Tribune as real. The Cure , Nine Inch Nails , Mumford and Sons , the Killers , [...]

Roger Kisby You can probably blame the entire music industry's post-SXSW hangover for this week's roundup of concert announcements being a little late and a little lean. But there were still some. And here they are. While I believe the official status of The Fiery Furnaces is that they're a going concern, it's pretty clear that the burner that they're on is pretty far back. Since they finished touring 20092s presciently-titled I'm Going Away , both Friedberger siblings have busied themselves in solo form. Matthew Friedberger released [...]
