The day after Thanksgiving, while the masses are lining up early for blockbuster sales, tying Christmas trees to their car roofs, or kicking back at home and watching football, you've got only one place you need to be: your favorite record store. Tomorrow is Record Store Day Black Friday , a day to support record stores, who in these times need your help, and to pick up exclusive albums, EPs and singles. You may already be familiar with Record Stores Day itself, which has been around since 2007 and occurs every third weekend in April, but its Fall counterpart [...]

An interesting mix arrived this past week; Ra Ra Riot cranked up their synth machine, Jane's Addiction covered The Rolling Stones, Jim James went all future-past, and What Made Milwaukee Famous delivered what is possibly my favorite song of the month. I've also got a peek into my interview with Band of Horses within, so quick yer lollygagging and dive it! Audio MP3 Audio MP3 The [...]

Ben Bridwell 's Band of Horses ran wild in Dublin on Saturday night, galloping through an eceptional two hour set at a ferocious pace. True, the energy was reigned in slightly (and only temporarily) around the half-way mark as is often the case when newer material is let run unbridled in the pasture. Otherwise, the Seattle-ites were on top form. On my first time catching the quintet live, an acoustic version of 'No One's Gonna Love You' from 2007's Cease To Begin performed [...]

You Take It Too Bad . [...]

Typically, our weekly adventures looking for new, quality music ends with an abundance of great music in the end. Anyone who follows our Song of the Week each week, can truly say we find the best of the best. But when the word best comes to mind, “Navajo”, Ponderosa ’s gem of a song from this year’s album Pool Party certainly fits the description. The Atlanta-based group are reminiscent of bands we adore such as Fleet Foxes , Band of Horses and others we admire who fall into the Southern Rock mold. [...]

A proper playlist plays in dreams, sends the mind wondering and helps you wake up with a song in your head. Since I can remember I have played music while going to bed - some times a CD, other times a playlist from my favorites list. In the end, the music tempers the soul and in the case of a sleep playlist, it needs certain elements. The key to a sleep playlist is in the eye of the creator, so in my case it starts with a story and ends with a song of longing. This formula works [...]

Dreamy, but also lively, San Cisco float somewhere between the two with a track off their second EP, Awkward . The Australian 4-piece band has been picking up steam quicker than I expected. Not that I didn't expect the band to do well. I did, I just didn't expect that they would find their way onto Minneapolis' premium radio station, The Current , before they released their first full-length. Although, I guess that tends to happen when you sign with Fat Possum (previously home to The Black Keys , Band of Horses [...]
After the Giants swept the World Series on Sunday, we’re thinking about making Band of Horses shows our new winning post-game ritual.

Arno Frugier Usually when a band says, "we'll see you soon" as they walk off the stage, it's a mostly-empty platitude that means "we'll see you when we've got a new record to push", or "we'll see you when our next single becomes a huge hit and allows us to come back and play a much bigger room". For New York rock stalwarts The Walkmen and Los Angeles psych-folk bard Father John Misty , though, at least lately, it's been an ironclad promise. The Walkmen were here twice already this year - once [...]
