Last year, the excellent Seattle indie sad-core outfit Carissa's Wierd reunited for a one-off concert in their hometown to celebrate the release of a new retrospective compilation , They'll Only Miss You When You Leave: Songs 1996-2003 , via Hardly Art. That release — complete with remastered cuts of "Die" and "The Color That Your Eyes Changed With the Color of Your Hair" — recruited a slew of new listeners while leaving longtime fans hungry for more material. Enter "Meredith & Iris," a new Mat Brooke (Grand Archives, Band of Horses) and Jenn Ghetto-led [...]

What do you do when the headliners of the tour you're on throw in the towel after the first three dates? If you're the Band of Horses , you saddle up and hit the road by your damn selves. After The Kings of Leon called it quits due to "vocal issues and exhaustion", the opening band, a hard-working five-piece from South Carolina known simply as Band of Horses found themselves with some unforeseen free time and a mission to not let down their fans. Trading in the amphitheaters and outdoor pavilions for cozy concert halls and night clubs, the [...]

Carissa's Wierd , one of Seattle's hidden gems, has surfaced once again. The band is best known for their heart-rending and honest lyrics woven with piano and orchestral strings. Their live shows are intimate, emotional, and hushed. After breaking up in 2003, some members moved on to other prominent musical endeavors such as Band of Horses , Grand Archives , and the solo project of Sera Cahoone . We all thought the tragically sweet music of Carissa's Wierd was laid to rest. Last July, it came as a surprise to hear that the band would celebrate the release [...]

After being left hung out to dry by the Kings Of Leon's self-destructive behavior, Band Of Horses have decided to play a small tour of the remaining cities that were planned for the tour that was cut short earlier this week. This means the shows had to put together on very short notice and fans in Philly can catch them at the TLA next Tuesday, August 9th . Tickets go on sale today at noon through Live Nation . Band of Horses were set to rock amphitheaters for the better part of August while opening for Kings of Leon .

Following the cancellation of the Kings of Leon entire U.S. tour, Band of Horses have announced a string of last minute club shows. Band of Horses were due to open for Kings of Leon on their U.S. but were forced to change their plans after the band cancelled their tour after frontman Caleb Followill came down with a "vocal issues and exhaustion". The dates were put together in an effort to play shows where the band were due to play with the [...]

In the wake of the recently cancelled tour with Kings of Leon, Band of Horses have put together some last minute club shows in an effort to play in front of as many of their fans as possible in cities affected by the cancellations. The band posted the following note on their facebook page: Hey there Friends Of BoH! We're thrilled by all the support you're showing us, and have been working behind the scenes to do everything we ...

Band of Horses in Toronto in 2010 ( more ) As you may have heard, Caleb Followill of Kings of Leon walked off stage at their show in Dallas, TX on Friday (7/29) after saying he was going to go backstage, vomit, and return for three more songs. "While KoL's fans stood in the dead heat, precious Caleb was carried off to his all-white dressing room where slaves hand fed him Evian ice cubes and fanned him with swan feathers while spritzing his face [...]

In case you haven't heard, Kings Of Leon have cancelled their giant U.S tour (and honestly, hasn't it felt like Kings Of Leon have been on tour for the last four years) around a swirl of allegations about Caleb Followill's drinking problem, exhaustion, and whatnot. But, many people forget that Band Of Horses were opening this tour. In rolling with the punches, Band Of Horses have quickly jumped back on the, uh, horse (sorry) and have scheduled a few club dates to make up for their cancelled tour. On top of that, Band Of Horses are letting you [...]

Photo by Josh Darr Obviously, Band of Horses are no longer opening for Kings of Leon, so the band has mapped out a few last-minute club shows. So far, four dates have been announced, with the first one going down tonight in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Other stops scheduled include Charlotte, Philadelphia, and New York City. Fans in Ft. Lauderdale will also have the treat of selecting songs for the evening's setlist. The band is accepting requests via their Facebook page until 5pm EDT. Tickets information for [...]
Two days ago, Kings of Leon decided to call off the remainder of their U.S. summer tour, which included a scheduled performance with Band of Horses at the Susquehanna Bank Center on August 12th. Citing lead singer Caleb Followill's "vocal issues and exhaustion," the cancellation was certainly a bummer, but thankfully Band of Horses is rallying hard and has announced that they will attempt to visit as many of the cancelled cities as possible. Philly has been confirmed as one of the cities receiving a show, and it's happening soon – this Tuesday, August 9th, at [...]
I have now passed over my first anniversary and yet I still haven't completed the posts for all of the music we played at our wedding. As is probably typical of the music snob set it took literally countless hours of time to come up with this entire list. If you want to see the rest of these postings just click here . What follows is the continuation of the music that was played quietly in the background of the dinner and cocktail portion of the evening. As I have said before, for this segment of the [...]

Lucinda Williams at the Fillmore in NYC, photo protected under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic It was a hot Wednesday evening at the outdoor amphitheater at the North Carolina Museum of Art . Muggy, humid, and as Lucinda Williams described, "sultry". I thought to myself, of course we're enjoying the sultry weather, as I usually describe her voice as such. For those unfamiliar with Lu's sound, I like to say that if Janis Joplin and Dolly Parto n had a baby, it would be Lucinda Williams. It was a [...]
