Band of Skulls: The Dead Weather: I think this is the problem with listening to too much music. (PS - I like both bands)

Sometimes, live performance music videos risk being boring, but throw in a bright, kaleidoscopic backdrop and it can be instantly revived. This is the case for Band of Skulls' "I Know What I Am." The song is the first single from the British band's debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey . Band of Skulls is currently on tour in the United States until the end of August. While you wait for the newcomers to appear near you, watch them prove that they know who they are in their new video for "I Know What I Am."

Last night in the intimate Lexington venue I was treated to the audio orgy that is the Band of Skulls. Judging by the band name and my use of language you may initially think I was invited to attend a heavy metal, nipple pinching, scream inducing sex fest but the truth of the matter was I saw potentially the next big alt rock act to be borne of our shores. Fleeting effortlessly between each White Stripes/Black Keys/Nirvana/Pixies influenced track, omitting a sound of pure originality, I found myself [...]
Story by Christopher Norton Photography by Nikki Turner It's a cold world Band of Skulls was born into. The psychedelic blues rockers are the latest U.K. exports to wage their classically skuzzy assault on the land of the free and the brave, starting with New York City. Which is surprising given the band's former appellation, as guitarist and sometime frontman Russell Marsden told us in a recent conversation. Marsden and drummer Matt Hayward have known and played music with each other since childhood, but the band which listeners will discover today didn't take shape [...]

Band of Skulls ' debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey ias released in April on iTunes. My friend got me a copy last week and I immediately got into the 2nd and 3rd tracks, "Death By Diamonds and Pearls" and "I Know What I Am." The songs combine the qualities of the White Stripes and The Black Keys; edgy, bluesy hard rock at it's best. What makes Band of Skulls great is that the album itself is original and progressive. "Patterns," Hollywood Bowl," "Impossible," and "Blood" are all great, distinctive songs. "Dull Gold Heart" is [...]

Yep. I LOVE this Band Of Skulls record. It was just the right album at the right time for me I guess...whatever the reason, I am listening to this thing non stop and I feel obligated to pass along one more track from the fabulous 'Baby Darling Dollface Honey.' * 'Fires' MP3

Loud and gloriously heavy, the UK's Band of Skulls' 'Baby Darling Doll Face Honey' is scattered with cultural influences that give away the fact it was recorded with care. Produced, recorded, and mixed by Ian Davenport ( Supergrass , Badly Drawn Boy ) the album sometimes comes off overproduced but quickly makes up for it with some uniquely catchy tunes. Just listen to the New Orleans blues-rock on "Light Of The Morning" or the swampy croon on "Blood". But while there are a few twists here, from bassist/vocalist Emma Richardson's commanding voice to the cat [...]

One of my very favorite parts of the process that is my music festival addiction is the researching the dozens of bands that I have never heard of. This is basically how I celebrated my 4th of July...alas, I was outside though...just with a laptop right along side my beer and hot dog. My first pleasant discovery of the day was the UK outfit Band OF Skulls. An album(coyly titled 'Baby Darling Dollface Honey') which is full of retro-awesomeness without ever sounding cliche, not an easy trick to pull off...ask Wolfmother. [...]
Band Of Skulls could be forgiven for thinking The Gods Of Rock started smiling down on them the minute they changed their name from Fleeing New York in late 2008. Going from relative obscurity on the London club scene to bagging the prestigious iTunes Single of the Week in April as well as a commercial [...]

Frank Yang Woodpigeon shows are like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get. The first time I saw them live at Pop Montreal 2007 , they were a rhythm section-less five-piece, more church choir than pop band but the next time, opening for Calexico last July , they were kitted out as an eight-piece and most certainly capable of bringing the rock. So it was anyone's guess as to which Woodpigeon would come to roost at the Horseshoe on Saturday night, opening up [...]

NEW MUSIC/Going out Tonight ! by Nikhil Gupta SCENE: TT the Bears The Anatomy of a Three-person Band: Russell Marsden (guitar & vocals), Emma Richardson (bass & vocals), and Matt Hayward (drums) have produce an intricately layered and stylistically far-reaching album.
